I took Mother's corpse to the haberdasher... and it was a slow day?!

I just finished "All That Remains." My little Anders scene played and I was left in my room. I went over to examine my journal, and what do I hear?

"Had breakfast. Went to the privy. Took Mother to the haberdasher. Must have been a slow day." Really? My mother just died, and I'm joking about taking her hat shopping?

Wry Hawke is an inappropriate ****.

I didn't realise that Mother dies. Kinda spoiler-y, no?

To be fair, that little gem can also happen before "All that Remains" so it's more the fault of the programmers for not disabling it than it is on Hawke for being inappropriate. :P

OOPS! Spoilers are allowed here. Sorry, just say the title from the forum list. >.<

I always interpreted it as Hawke looking at an old entry in her journal, not writing a new entry.

It's probably just the same as Bodahn giving his generic "I cleaned your stuff" line when you talk to him instead of something more appropriate for the situation. (which he does say, only when you hit a dialog trigger near the doorway)

I read the "I'm so proud of you, love mother" just after she got killed. I thought it was supposed to be triggered by her death. Noticed second playthrough it was already there before her death. Too bad, it really hit home how sad it was.

The journal thing is okay, if it had an updated comment for her death to add to the drama. I know the joke you are talking about and agree it's weird. I had one weird one of my own, were the house elf commented how nice my mama was even though she only arrived after my mother was already dead.

I know it's just a consequence of how the "examine" things are implemented (and not reacting to plot flags), but I like it better if Wry Hawke is just a total douche, even to herself.

Upsettingshorts hated the inappropriateness of always selecting the wry responses, but I only like them when they're inappropriate.

Proof that even two Wry Hawkes can be different characters from the game's perspective.

The only genuinely inappropriate response to me is the one where the Viscount is holding Seamus' corpse.

I hate the "I hate losing things" line during the Ninette quest. And many other "Uh, what - this isn't funny" jokes.

Granted, I think it's fine and the options should still be in the game - just that doing what I did convinced me that always selecting one of the "three" directions as a matter of principle and no other reason was not the way the system was intended to be used.

That being said, I'm playing a predominantly funny/charming Hawke now, and and use charming very often, and funny when and only when I think the setup is appropriate for humor. Even if the jokes still aren't funny, at least they don't make everyone in a 4 meter radius facepalm.

I'm thinking that's the intention. It's a diary/journal, Hawke is reading an old entry. At least that's one oversight that could have a realistic in-game explenation.

The First Sacrifice has a bunch of inappropriate lines.

"Anyone need a hand?"
"Okay, if I see a bunch of boneless women squirming around Kirkwall, I'll let you know!"

If I only get facepalms, I call it a bad day. I would have loved an opportunity to talk to Bethany about taking Mother's cropse (and wasn't it actually only her head?) to the haberdasher. I want to be able to actually take the head hat shopping. Because that would be so in-character for my Hawke. She really was a complete ass (but, like, not in a mean way). I was just astonished the game (even if it was purely by accident) seemed to agree with me

However, Bodahn, Orianna and Leandra's room's door know that she is dead :D An unfortunate mishap, that comment.

I tended to follow a joke/joke/nice or joke/joke/aggressive pattern, as if my character was trying to be lighthearted and then did a "but seriously now" moment.  It actually worked out pretty well--Hawke comes across less as inappropriately snarky and more as an alarmingly dominant personality, which is what I most like to play. :D  (Dominant personalities tend to intentionally hit the wrong notes at the right times in order to make you react, so they're now in charge of the conversation and you're running along to catch up.)

Eh, that one seemed quite funny to me.  It's not like Emeric was related to and grieving for one of the women.  The one with the viscount holding Saemus does seem to me to be really inappropriate though.

Emeric did know one of the women. He was looking for a mage who he described as an older, sedate woman he'd known for years.

A bit of her is probably in that blood bag of body parts you just gave him.

Mharen. I found a note in his Quentin's hideout about her hands, the hands of a lifelong scholar, and how he can't wait to entwine his fingers with hers. On my first playthrough, I had forgotten Emeric's mage's name, so I didn't make the connection.

I had Bethany with me on that and her response "You're horrible!" mirrored my own. That and the whole "Excuse me if I don't find humor in the death of my only son." part were the ones that really stood out for me.

Well, you're the one deciding to go with the sarcastic/light hearted comments at times of drama, picking those will be horribly inapropiate most of the time. You can only blame yourself for not picking another IMO.

If you give Sebastian his family bow, there's an inappropriate joke Hawke can make. (paraphrased) "A bow is much better than a family. If you're being attacked by monsters, you can't very well shoot your family at them."
