Does anyone think that first blood magic scene was pretty good?

It felt off for me because she did it to my blood mage Hawke - who already knows blood magic. I wish the storyline timplemented the fact that Hawke can be a bloodmage. I'd have liked to see how the characters reacted to that, especially Merrill.
Is there really no reaction to being a blood mage? At all?

I thought Hawke could resist because she's a blood mage herself.LobselVith8 wrote...

Ah, this game is more disappointing than I thought.

Unfortunately, there isn't, as the others have said. Even Hawke's ability to resist mind control in this scene has to do with being a mage.

Well, yo ucan resist because YOU are a mage, but being a Blood Mage makes no difference.Lord Gremlin wrote...

Just one each, but still more than DA2.

Wait so does or doesn't being a mage matter in this scene?
If you're not a mage, you can't resist her other than by killing her, or having Anders/Merril/Bethany break it.

Not particularly. It's mentioned in companion dialogue and it comes up a few times, but you can use magic in front of guards and templars, and they forget that you're an apostate. No one tries to arrest you in the Gallows when you've used magic right off the boat, and even Cullen doesn't remember that Hawke used magic to save his life from a possessed templar.

You can save Idunna for questioning if you are a mage or have a mage party member.Filament wrote...

Well, technically it is, because without a mage you still resist her long enough to kill her.
I wonder why you kill her though. If you already resist her by not killing yourself, why can't you resist killing the poor blood mage?
also, disappointing if she doesn't recognize your blood magic. but the scene was done nicely when I played my force mage nonetheless.

What about me? I'm standing right here slitting my wrists and jabbing staffs in my chest. I get nothing?

Her: HEY HAWKE I'M GOING TO KILL YOU AFTER BLATANTLY USING YOU
Hawke: Wait, I can barely resist dragging this dagger across my throat, but I want to talk to you.

That's nothing, how about Anders spending half the damn game *****ing to Merril about her blood magic.

also, in Awakening he can take the blood mage specialization, and you can even call him out on it in Awakening. no mention of it in DA2. then again, there were plenty of other companion-related continiuty issues to begin with.

what does spell resistance have to do with morality. you can still kill her after the first scene gives you the option
he quite clearly is capable to walk over to her and stab her. at this point, it doesn't seem anything else than a side-effect of mind-control, since you can quite clearly spare her if you have a mage or are one yourself. never mind the thought of bioware forcing my character to ( wilfully ) behave in a certain ethical fashion [provided he weren't under mind-control]

Well, on my rabidly anti-templar Hawke, anyway. The whole idea of sowing confusion and discord within the templar ranks by hiding demons among them actually seemed like a pretty good idea, and it's unfortunate the game forces you to complete this quest by killing all the blood mages.

Honestly I kind of just wanted to let her go. Go 'heh, interesting plan. By the way, templars are kind of onto you, might want to try something different.' and leave.

I did, too. I wonder why we were forced to choose between handing her over to the templars and killing her. It didn't make any sense when my apostate had no problem sparing blood mages or working with them (i.e. Merrill).
