I didn't mind the new Darkspawn look so much, though I did prefer the old style. They just looked more evil. But they do now more closely resemble how they're described in the books, of which I'm a big fan. So...I'm fine with either way, I guess.
I cannot get used to the elves, however. I agree that it's nice they have a different silhouette now, and I definitely like that their ears are much more pronounced now. However, the tall, lanky look bothers me. They look bird-like and emaciated. I don't mind the larger eyes, but the bridge-less noses and oddly-shaped faces was too much for my liking. Additionally, one of the traits I've loved about elves traditionally is that they're short, so you have this tiny badass jumping around. Now, they're tiny only in bone structure, and are just as tall as humans. There are a few elves in the game that look okay, but the majority made me cringe.
If they wanted to go with a different silhouette and art style for the elves, I would suggest not making it *quite* so drastically different from before. Keep them short, give them bigger ears and eyes, and keep their bodies looking strong and able. My Warden was an elf, and I cringe to think that she's no longer a tiny strong badass, but now would be morphed into a tall, creepy alien bird.
