When I right click on an emeny, he attacks fine. But, in the middle of the fight, he stops attacking the enemy even though the enemy is not dead. Then he turns around, takes a few steps, raises his sword and lets out a cry as if he defeated the enemy. The enemy keeps attacking him and he just stands here facing the other side. And whenever he does this, he doesnt attack anyone after that unless I right-click on an enemy again.

This doesnt happen with any of the NPCs. Is this a known issue? Please help.. I searched but couldnt find anything related. Its really frustrating in combat you know - I always need to concentrate on Hawke.

I know it happens with my game (I'm playing Rogue FemHawke) and it's very annoying. I don't remember this happening earlier in the game, and it only started happening recently. I have the 1.01 patch installed, but I don't remember exactly when this problem started. It's bad enough I have to baby-sit the NPCs from time to time when the pre-set tactics settings don't fit my particular needs/situation, now I've got a major battle factor just standing around looking pretty. But, dang it, I need her to FIGHT!!

Is the enemy getting knocked back?

If so, you have to use "R" or right click to re-engage.

it's part of game, as dumb as it sounds. If they get knocked back they seem to forget how to attack until you select them again.

@Baramon - same here. It didnt happen during the prologue stages. I too have 1.01 patch. Maybe I will have to reinstall the game and check without 1.01.
@Gloatie and Fetacheese - no the enemy isnt knocked back. I encountered that too and I am ok with it. But this one is a different thing. Right when the enemy is front of the PC, this happens.

I think what Fetacheese is referring to is your character (Hawke) being knocked back, and it does only seem to happen when my character does get knocked back. That is dumb. I noticed the info in one of the game loading screens saying that that was supposed to happen to enemies, but why in the world would you want that effect to happen to your character? Oh, I get it...to make the game more "difficult".

Yeah, I'm too lazy to reinstall DA2 without the patch to see. I've wasted/devoted enough time to "fixing" it already. Gotta move on.

Well, it also doesnt happen when Hawke is knocked back. Uploaded a small video with the problem.
Look the warrior with the sword near the Dragon. From 0.04 onwards. I noticed it happens only when he is not selected. The dragon is right in front of him, and he acts as if he defeated it or something..

odd... but yeah, what i meant is, that if any of your characters have a small "push" even your own dude, then he/she stops attacking if the enemy is pushed back even just a bit...
can't really discern what I saw in that video.
I have had Hawke, and even party members stop attacking until I told them to do so again, manually.

That must be what it is, then. My Hawke wasn't staggered or knocked down, but it always happens when she's just "shoved" even a tiny bit. A feature that's not really all that handy. (*sigh*) I can live with that, I guess. Still a great game.

Just saw your reply. Does your character turn around, runs for a few steps and lets out a cry kinda thing?

EDIT: Ok. I had raised an issue in customer support. First got a reply saying its a slow motion bug. That was not the issue in fact. So, I replied them to check it again. And then got the following reply.

We have just been informed that there is a temporary issue going on with the Hawke character in the game. Please be informed that we are aware of the issue and have forwarded the same to the development team for a fix. However, we do not have any ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) for it. Hopefully, it will fix soon.

Hope they fix it soon.

I've had situations where if Hawke is attacking a pack of enemies, three, let's say, and one of them dies, he will stop attacking and just stand there rather than re-engage the other two. I haven't had him just stop attacking for no apparent reason while fighting a single enemy though. I've also definitely had situations where I charge in, knock the enemy on his rear with the charge, and then he won't follow up and close on them unless manually prompted to.

No.  And thank goodness.  Hope it doesn't start happening either.  Maybe it will be part of the next bug-fix.

I have had this happen as well...It's not related to the knock-back...there are times when I can't do anything: I can't attack, I can't move...nothing registers for several seconds and then all of a sudden I can continue. Combat still happens all around me, e.g. I can still get attacked and hit and my party members keep attacking. It tends to happen when I'm fighting groups of targets...I've not had it occur against a single enemy.

I'm playing Rogue Hawke at the moment. Maybe our situations are similar. I am getting a new odd cool-down kind of thing that I don't remember happening earlier in the game. When I use either of two of my special attacks (Twin Fangs and Assassinate), I have almost three seconds of my character doing what I can only describe as a pose: Hawke looks ready to do something, but she is frozen in place, kind of like, "Look at me. I did something spectacularly awesome! I'm going to stand here and just bask in the moment." Sometimes she holds her swords "en garde", sometimes down at her sides, sometimes overhead like she's getting ready to attack, but in reality: she's just standing there, not fighting, and two or three seconds go by in inactivity, even though I have pressed the attack key or right-clicked with the mouse. I don't remember Hawke doing this earlier in the game, and I don't see any of the other combatants doing it. Just me. Maybe it's the same situation, only my Hawke isn't doing anything particularly entertaining — just useless. It only seems to occur with those two abilities being used.

And three seconds is a loooong time in this game, when some characters seem to make two or three attacks per second. That's precious time that Hawke shouldn't be grandstanding. Very annoying.
