I posted this on another forum, but it bothers me enough that I'm creating a topic for it:

You know what worries me?  The fact that they are re-using footage from parts of ME2 in Arrival DLC.
1- Scene when Shepard wakes up from 2 days of sedation - same scene exactly from when she wakes up in the Cerberus lab at the beginning of ME2.  Watch - she even grabs her side the same way.
2 - Scene when Shepard is escaping at the end, running into the cockpit of the Normandy yelling at Joker to get them out - that's taken exactly from the initial scene of ME2 when the original Normandy is blown up and Shepard runs in and tells Joker they have to get out of there now.
3- When you release Dr. Kenson from the shackles and she breaks the arm and neck piece and then leans over and shakes her head, directly lifted from when Jack comes out of cryo.  They just replaced the character.
I don't mean it's similar - I mean it is the same code, just from a different angle.  Is this what we have to look forward to in ME3?  More recycling?
The fans deserve more than that.
Really, Bioware- 2 questions - did you think we wouldn't notice, and are you that lazy?

its not re-used scenes it re-used character actions, its the reason why hawke in dragon age 2 drinks just like shepard, why make new ones when you already have ones that fit the situation?

..........

I'll be damned. You're right.

Okay, I have two thoughts. First thought is "Really, Bioware? Really?". Second thought, from my optimistic side, is "maybe they're working so hard on ME3 that they didn't have the resources to spare for the DLC."

It's an efficient and relatively clever way to add new content without having to do as much work. It's like with your squadmate in LOTSB saying a line when the trade center blows up.

Because that looks lazy and like Shepard is in the wrong place. Not that there is much point in drinking in DAII, unlike Shepard Hawke seems to have the consitution of am ox.

It's just re-used animations which is common with any company. I actually don't mind this.

I know a lot of repeat body language and "I should go" is par for the course, however there was so much new and fresh in the rest of ME2, that this level of repeated action disappointed and concerned me. The reason I hate it is it takes you out of the story - it's jarring. You watching saying, "Oh, the devs got lazy here." I hope you are right, that instead of a bad sign of what's to come this is a sign they are making an ME3 that will blow us away.

Did you catch all the "reused" stances from ME1 during conversations or all the reused gun models, armors, Door locks, Tech gerble,Mcguffins, sounds, Textures!

If it fits with the scene, than by all means reuse animations. They are not going to make new animations for EVERY scene just because you want them to.

Yeah, not going to fault them for reusing some body motions. This was a small DLC to tie ME2 to ME3, I'm not going to get all pissy because Bioware/EA didn't fire up the mocap studio just for this DLC.

Reused animation saves time for more important things like actually cool content. They actually added a ton of new animations for ME2 from ME1.

Did anyone also catch how Hackett is a re-used Zaeed skin? [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/blushing.png[/smilie]

On topic, if the animation fits, then by all means re-use them, got no problem with that.

Again, I think they took the recycling to a level it shouldn't be at.

That's the trade of for a small, cheap, DLC. They have to cut costs to get the file size and price that low.

would you rather they invested resources into story and meaningful choices, or new animations?

there's only so much time and budget developers have, they cannot exactly pull Duke Nukem forever and take over a decade to create a sequel.

personally, I found squaddies starting straight into nothing when you talk to npc's sometimes a lot more jarring, in ME1 at least they would look at you as you talked, in ME2, they just kinda stare straight ahead sometimes, on Jack especially its kinda freaky

It' not feasible to create a whole new animation just for a DLC, I am sure they are creating some for ME3 though.  especially if that animation will only be used once for something that rarely happens, i.e. Shepard waking up from being knocked out on a table.

I guess I have a higher level of expectation than you.

What, because they reused the same animation once or twice? You should be glad the animations are as good as they are to begin with. As I said before, they are not going to make brand new animations for some small 8 seconed scene just because you want them to.

I would love for every character to have a million different animations just like the real world, but I don't think that is valuable code time for a two hour DLC.

I really enjoy the lean back standing idle, they use that animation quite a bit.

Overall, I still liked it - a lot of other complaints, I don't have. It being short, didn't bother me, lack of "interaction" with Dr. Kenson - Duh - she's indoctrinated, how "personable" is she going to be? And also - no squadmates was a fun challenge, and the action was good- they seemed to be flanking me more than just coming from the front constantly- I had to look around more. Am I being too particular? Perhaps - just shows you how much I really like the game.

True - and the finger point with agressive stance and then point back at yourself.

I noticed all those too..... did not bother me in the slightest. I don't play ME for the amazing phisycs, or the special effects. Im in for the greates futuristic story ever, for the unforgettable characters and the best video game acting in the history of video games. As an actor myself, acting for me is everything, as long as that is kept, Im coll with everything else.

Are you kidding? It's animations. EVERY game re-uses animations. If you honestly think it's poor development, then you obviously don't know very much about how video games are made and how resources must be used carefully and efficiently. Especially in a DLC that not every owner of ME2 is going to experience, there's no reason to create a new "breakout" animation or a new "wake up from the bed" animation. Besides- I didn't see any jaw grabbing in the wake up scene, so it wasn't completely re-used.
