The reason most companions were not given any lines are likely related to scheduling and budget. The actors of such characters as Joker (Seth Green) or the other companions are more expensive than general_voice_actor_101 and they are thus less inclined to include them. - Especially if they need to hire Lance Henriksen, as for re-using old animations and such; well it is a DLC and the budget is likely very small, a large portion of the budget went to Lance I would wager.

I like how people say it's a cheap DLC costing 7 dollars. I mean if ME3 came out and was 10-11 hours long would you be saying well it's a $60 game. $7 is about 11.6% the cost of a new game. I think it's reasonable to ask for a few new animations for a DLC that's short and $7. I noticed the same thing really with the same animations being used by different characters and it can break immersion and make it look cheap. It's not like this DLC cost that much to produce and will probably be very profitable.

Wanna see reused, go play Oblivion or Fallout 3. Bioware has better stuff to worry about than making 100% new cutscene content for a frickin $7 DLC. Not even worth the time to make a thread on.

Or maybe we ought to go old school: Origin reused a lot of the space background in Wing Commander..and Wing Commander 2 and Wing Commander Privateer. What a bunch of slackers!!!

In the realm of things that are wrong with Arrival, re-used animations is scraping the bottom of the barrel. There are things far worse that overshadow this, and it's not actually that bad, considering how... not good quality this DLC is.

Yeah, not going to fault them for reusing some body motions. This was a small DLC to tie ME2 to ME3, I'm not going to get all pissy because Bioware/EA didn't fire up the mocap studio just for this DLC.

I guess I have a higher level of expectation than you.

Yeah, and life sucks when you do that. Let the good times roll man, don't get hung up letting moss grow.

Picking on re-used animations is the moss growin' bro. Chilax!

Ahem. Anyway, Bioware have stated that they re-use animations quite a bit and personally, though I did notice that Dr. Kenson's animation when breaking out of her cell thing was the same as Jack's, it didn't bother me.

Developers can only do so much, at some there needs to be a willing suspension of disbelief. Reused animations is one of those times.

Like loading screens.

I payed 10 bucks for the two main STALKER games. There are definitely more efficient ways to spend your money out there.

I therefore agree with this principle.

So what if the animations are being "re-used". It's ME, we loved it when it was the worst shooter experience ever. This is just a bump in a wide road.

I have to disagree with this statement.

I'd have to say that honor goes to FFVII Dirge of Cerberus.

Just cause you understand WHy something is done, does not mean you like it. I don't preach doom and judgement day for ME3 just because a DLC did not live up to my standards though. They have a bigger team, more resources and so on for ME3 than the DLC-team did.

Did I notice it? Yes. Did I care? No. When it comes to visuals, I have pretty low standards. I remember playing Asteroids on the Atari. I was able to accept that little triangle was my ship and those circles were asteroids. While I certainly appreciate good graphics, I tend not to mind small things about them. I did not mind the texture popping in ME at all. I did not mind that all the love scenes in ME were identical, although I give BioWare points for making them unique in the sequel. The only time I really mind graphics is when the framerate drops due to having too much on the screen. I'm not even talking a small drop. I mean when there are a bunch of enemies, and the game lags so bad, you can't even fight back because everything is jumping so much.

Then again, that's just me.

Lies. People bring up valid criticism and they are shot down by aggressive fanboys/girls who have to insult the poster and then defend the company by justifying it in an irrational way. Like it's a cheap $7 DLC, they couldn't make 3 new animations.

They're squeezed from 2 different directions with dlc, though. On the one hand, you can't charge such a lot for it anyway, on the other hand, dlc doesn't reach 10% of the audience that buys the full game, on average, so it means a lot less money coming in/higher cost to reach break-even than would otherwise be the case.

My only question is:

If Bioware is totally cool re-using animations, why couldn't they have recycled one of Joker's old voice clips? Because seriously, mute!Joker really freaked me out.

You make it sound like the quality of the DLC hinged on 3 new animations being made. You know that those scenes are like, less than 15 seconds put together? I'm all for artistic innovativeness, but you are clearly overreacting to something that can't even be called a minor slight.

Get over yourself, dude.

BioWare did it well; at least they didn't go utterly overboard like Disney.

Well, they DID recycle a tiny voice clip of him for Arrival and, I think, Overlord.

But the part at the end when you're escaping was kinda weird since he didn't say anything. I realize it sounds nitpicky, but to be fair that's kinda what the entire thread is like.

You pretty much said it all. There are a hundred different reasons why Joker should have/shouldn't have said anything at that point, and the main topic was exhausted before the thread was even made. We need a moderator to close this up, I think.

He has no lines in any of the DLC as far as im aware. Some no body speaks to Shepard at the end of Arrival and only shep the doc and his brother have lines in Overlord.

Yeah I think so too. This thread's barely limping along now. (no pun intended in relation to Joker)

*spoilers warning*

Go Paragon on the final Overlord decision where you send David to Grissom Academy. Joker uses his "aye aye, Commander" line there. And choose "Call the Normandy" over alerting the colonies in Arrival - then you even get to see Joker in the cockpit as he reuses his Horizon phrase about getting all kinds of interference or something. As for the "nobody" at the end, I always had the distinctive feel that it was the Hammerhead VI, but couldn't wrap logic around the assumption.

*spoilers end*
