Regarding 'The Calling' and DG's statements... I haven't read the books and I kind of stopped paying attention to what DG said on the forums once he said that Alistair was 20 or 21. I find that gamebreakingly hard to believe, so I don't, be it fact ot not. 

I always figured Alistair to be 22 or 23 in Origns, which would make him around 30 in DA2, yet he looks like an alcoholic 40 something to me  

On my first playthrough, I got all excited when I started the Crows quest because I knew it meant Zevran would make an appearence (I had no idea about DAO characters having cameos) but I literaly let out a squeal of excitment (I don't usually sqeal) when I saw the letter from King Alistair!  I kept hoping somehow that Alistair would be SOMEWHERE in the game but thought that would be silly.  So the first time I was too excited to see how awful his character model looked, the second time, I saw it in all it's awful glory.  WTF BioWare?  What did you do to my gorgeous hunky Alistair from DAO?  His voice sounded a bit off too, like he couldn't be bothered or something.

I also feel cheated that Anders will only admit that Karl was his lover if you play as a male. I get it in the sense that it could be Anders opening up to M!Hawke that he's into dudes (though it seems like a funny time to start hitting on him), but the fact that he can't confide about that with F!Hawke? Seemed a little cheap to me. I don't usually play straight relationships anyway, but it seems like a silly thing to not mention.

From what I've heard, if you play as a female, Anders is straight, but if you play as a male he's gay (or at least a bi preferring men). I have a hard time believing Anders wouldn't tell a female Hawke about Karl if something did happen between them, as he seems quite open about those things. I could be wrong though.

I view him as pansexual personally in DA2 just based on his comment to a male Hawke about "falling in love with a whole person, not just a body." Although it may not fit with how he acts in Awakening, it certainly fits his DA2 character imo.

I seriously don't understand why this is even an issue with folks.  The way it's being discussed, resolutely heterosexual men are breaking down in tears, clutching their controllers and fainting dead away at the meer mention of gays and lesbians existing in other player's game experiences. 

I could not agree more.  I simply don't understand the mentality of those who fuss and rant over the fact that a character is different from one person's playthrough to another.  No one seems to mind that Hawke can be radically different form one game to the next (much more so than the NPC's).  Hawke can be gay or straight depending on the player, so why the hell can't Anders? 

My Hawke rivalmanced Fenris, and it was great fun.  My experience is no way affected or diminished by the knowledge that a male player/character has the same romance option available.  Just the opposite, in fact.  I like knowing that the option I enjoyed so much is available to all players. 

Personally I felt really burned by the way Dragon Age Origins cut all female characters out of the story at the end, based solely on the fact that they could not romance Morrigan (not that I'd want to, but I'd have liked the same option guys got for a final night with my romantic choice and the moral choice of whether or not to parent a Demon/God baby).  I'd much rather all romances be available to all players, then no one is inherently given an inferior game experience the way girl characters were in Origins.  While he wasn't my personal choice, the Anders romance is so integral to the plot, it would have been really rotten to only make it available to one gender. 

The straight boys who are accustomed to having their own hetero-male versions of games being declared canon (or at least constantly pushed in marketing as if it is canon) really need to shut up and quit their whining about this issue.

(Eek, sorry, I got a little preachy there.  Have a cookie straight boys, I love you, really!  /rant)
