it was easy to follow...

nice diverison from normal battle : hurl boulder... fireball.. crush prison.. back to golem and slam target.. really was fun :P

nice reward for doing it : stats = wet pants

and personal nightmares to face. ( morrigan is epic even when she is taken by a nightmare

"a finally u arrived, now plz lets get rid of this annoying demon.. desperatly trying to act as my mother"

i dont like it either, because it takes awhile to do it but the stat + is awsome and i would think a dwarf couldnt enter the fade so thats cool that they can do it as well

I want to show my support for the ideas, not the people, in this thread. I loved Dragon Age so much, and still do, but the first time I got to the Fade I was can remember thinking...

"...if this keeps up, I'm not finishing this game..."

I have no lack of ability to play RPGs, in fact I beat the Fade easily. Being able to pass something and not WANTING to pass something are different in games. I do not WANT to play a Hello Kitty game, but I COULD, if I chose. I CANNOT solo 40 man World of Warcraft content, under the games ruleset, it is not possible.

So if you post in this thread maybe reemmber that there is a big difference in "able to" and "want to".

I was always perfectly capable of getting through the Fade, I just never wanted too.

My friend feels exactly opposite. He thinks it's the best area in the game "because it buffs your PC so much"...

To each their own, yes, but not at the cost of it all.

its to bad indeed that its a forced event... but so is the landsmeet, ya always keep some forced parts in a game to venture forth storywise

Oh, It's also completely silly that being a blood mage does not change how this event wildly.

It's not really much of a puzzle, Most of the off/side routes are to get "extra" "things". (which I recommend getting) If you don't want to bother though, just pick a direction and keep going round, 2 passes should be enough to unlock everything.

thank god. so i just skip from zone to zone until it just unlocks?

No amount of extra things is worth doing a dumb maze lol.

Not even like 19 points to go towards your attributes?  Or something like that.  I'm on my third run and that section is first I do and take no time at all.  It's the Urn of Ashes puzzle that drove me nutz...the ones where you have to step on legs in a certain combo to make the bridge.  Got it writen down now so it's a breeze....

i absolutely hated that puzzle. the maze puzzle within the fade is so damn easy, and those attribute bonuses are a ncie find, too.

Get the mouse > go to the burning tower > go to the mage's tower > go to the darkspawn encounter > go to the templar tower.

Go back to each depending on what you need to unlock, I can't remember for sure.

I don't recall there being any actual puzzles in the fade... I thought it was fairly obvious that once you got stuck in one place, you needed to go to another to get the form you needed in order to proceed.

With that in mind, I've found this order to be easiest:
Darkspawn Invasion
-Finish Raw Fade
Burning Tower
Mage Asunder
-Finish Darkspawn Invasion
-Finish Burning Tower
Templar's Nightmare
A Nightmare (x3)
Inner Sanctum

And if you want to make sure you get all those nice permanent bonuses to attributes, you have to go back to the very first area (Wiesshaupt) and use the spirit form to see the "invisible" thing.

Personally I loved the fade.

Admittedly, at the beginning, it was very hard, particularly when I finished all my healing pots but hadn't figured out strategy (I was playing a rogue, thus I wasn't very robust in combat).

But the nonlinear nature of the Fade is just awesome. Having issues with one area? Leave it, explore somewhere else, and then come back again when you're stronger. Each form helps you so much more than the last - particularly once you get the golem form, which not only breaks down those annoying doors, but allows you to totally dominate some enemies like the last few darkspawn.

But I can see why some people wouldn't like it. It's deep strategy, totally nonlinear, and you don't get any loot (though you do get those awesome attribute bonuses - I'm totally taking these plusses into my character builds in the future). Battling the rooms full of mages in particularly was a PITA, but it was so satisfying once I wiped them out.

BTW, if you play a dwarf, I'm presuming you don't go to the Fade?

lol I still after three times forget to put the rest of the part on stay and get them all torched when I start moveing the pieces.

As a lot of people in here seem to feel, I also found the fade to be tedious at first in mouse form. Especially since it is a 'forced' event and you have no option of getting out of it to take a break.

However, after about 30 minutes of running around the different 'islands' I found myself in the Burning Tower (Mage Tower or whatever its called) and got the 'Burning Man' form.

Then the Fade instantly went to Fun. That form is just awesome. I pretty much used it the rest of the way unless forced to use another form to continue past the choke points. Blasting Darkspawn with endless fireballs will pounding them in the face with my shield made up for the 30 minutes of tedium by a long shot!

That was quite an enjoyable dungeon after all.

I thought it was boring at first because I had no goddamn clue what to do, but the more forms and exploring I got done, the more I came to like it. I may not look forward to it with glee, but I'm not going to shy away from it either.

The Fade sucked. It was easy, I knew exactly what I needed to do from the start after having done the Mage origin.

But it sucked. It was tedious and artificially long. I didn't make my character to play a complete different character. Ooooh I can throw a rock through a door. So what? That's cool the first two times and then it's novelty factor is lost.

As a mage it is a lot less fun because
1) Mages are the single best class in the game, full stop
2) Since it's solo, all the enemies are scaled way down.

As a rogue, however, being able to swap between an unstoppable war machine, a caster/fighter (since burning man uses your weapons), and a straight caster made that encounter a super zany fun time

I've been through this fade thing a few times, and yes I love it. Hardly need a walkthrough after writing down just a few notes:

To get the forms quickly, go from Raw Fade (mouse) -> Burning Tower (Burning Man) -> Mages Asunder (Golem) -> Darkspawn Invasion (Spirit).

After that revisit all areas (this makes Templar's Nightmare a cinch) to do what you need to do. Note that you can complete the quest portion of Mages Asunder immediately after obtaining the Golem form, and by the time you get to Darkspawn Invasion you'll be able to complete it's quest too. The only reason to return to Mages Asunder would be for the hidden (behind a spirit door) stat boosts.

The only thing I do for this place to make it easier on my eyes is to turn off screen buffer effects. That heat wave effect gives me headaches. Just remember to re-enable the effects after you leave or everything will be rather dark.

Edit: decided to post my notes from last night's session.

The Raw Fade - Mouse form (easy to obtain)
 - Requires Spirit form to complete quest
 - Stat boosts: Dexterity

The Burning Tower - Burning Man form (requires Mouse form to obtain)
 - Requires Burning Man and Golem forms to complete quest
 - Stat boosts: Cunning (2), Constitution, Strength

The Mages Asunder - Golem form (requires Burning Man form to obtain)
 - Requires Golem form to complete quest
 - Stat boosts: Strength (2), Willpower, Dexterity (2), Cunning, Constitution

The Templar's Nightmare (no forms available)
 - Requires all forms to complete quest
 - Stat boosts: Dexterity, Cunning

The Darkspawn Invasion - Spirit form (requires Mouse and/or Burning Man forms)
 - Requires Mouse and/or Burning Man, and Golem forms to complete quest
 - Stat boosts: Strength, Cunning

To add up the stat boosts:

Strength: 4
Dexterity: 4
Willpower: 1
Magic: 0
Cunning: 5
Constitution: 2

If your idea of fun is pressing 1 button and then watching the same animation of a golem throwing a rock at a door 30 times with no other thought or interaction from you, then I can't help you.

While it is annoying after running through it a few times, I found it a nice break from the rest of the game. You *could* mod it out of the game, I suppose, but I figure the stat bonuses are worth the 30 minutes of aggravation.

That said, when you said that there is a maze scenario, I instantly thought back to Max Payne. That's a maze sequence I wouldn't mind skipping.

Why do people keep calling it a maze? I don't remember any maze in the Fade.

It was kind of like a very short LoZ game.
