I like Ground Pounds.

The point of this thread is more about ways to give your Shepard breathing space based on class in Mass Effect 3.

For example, I'm playing a Vanguard and I charge into a group of bros, or I'm getting swarmed by husks. Fitting with the Vanguard's combat/biotic nature, a biotic ground pount to create breathing room every now and then would be only a good thing.

I don't think I've seen a discussion that focuses on the way certain classes want to play in a while (I may be wrong).

This is less a suggestion, and more me expressing something that I personally think would improve fluency in gameplay for my class of choice.

How would you fellows tackle this problem for your preferred class?

Sentiel already has a "hmm I'm being swamed what can I do skill" with Assault Armor.

Soldiers can do this with some form of Concussive Blast. The folks that love the skill will shoot it at their feet sometimes to cause husks to stumble ....

I could see a Biotic power that's basically the opposite of Singularity ... a short lived repulsive force.

Similar to an Assault Armor pulse maybe you could have a Tech "shield impulse/overload" that would send out a wave of energy but delay recharge of your shields.

There are lots of possibilities for something like this ....

Currently I just use my teammages to break up the party. A Concussive Blast, Throw Field, etc. is often all you need for that "just give me a half second and I'll be fine".

I sort-of did this on the collector ship mission with my current vanguard run. I combined rampant unfocused shotgun (claymore) shots at grouped husks at the end. I used shockwave as the reload trick instead of melee.

It was very effective as many husks were de-armored before the shockwave got to them. Then they went flying.

I imagine it would've worked better with an adept, claymore and throw field, though as the cooldowns on throw are just about right to chain shots and casts consistently.

I've thought that a "get the hell off of me" activated ability which stuns anything close to you like the detonation effect from the Sentinels tech shield would be a very good addition.  The Mind blast Spell in Dragon Age would be the closest analogue to what I have in mind.

I also think it would be pretty cool if the game let Sentinels manually detonate their tech shields as an improvised offensive attack.

I can imagine that would be pretty sweet.

I know concussive blast does something similar, but Mass Effect restricts you to playing as Shepard, and not everyone will carry a squad-mate armed with concussive blast around with them, or even have enough medi-gel to revive them once fallen.

The ability for each class to be able to effectively turn the stakes of a battle by throwing enemies off in a really tense situation would add to intensity, and allow players of a low skill level an easier time, and players of high skill level the ability to think tactically and creatively with such a power.

Giving Infiltrators the chance to checkpoint a part of the battlefield, so that when swarmed, they can disappear and reappear in their chosen position, or the like.

It just seems to be a combat option that Mass Effect might benefit from, as the most common cause of death would probably be getting swarmed, or an enemy getting in point-blank while you're trying to regenerate health in cover. (FOR ME, AT LEAST)

I don't think such a ability would add anything significant. There already are very few enemies who try to get to you in the first place. Pyros are nasty, but they will hit you at medium range. Charging Krogan can be avoided by simply moving backward. Husks are a joke, if they can corner you - you've messed up big time. Physical powers do not affect Harbinger and Scions so not very useful when they're around.

I'd rather have spherical shockwave, or at least a wide angle wall for biotics (like biotic barrier surge at the end of the long walk). There is already tech armour for tech classes. For combat classes - weapons/heavy weapons should do the job.

Spherical shockwave would be great. Make it so you can detonate it with a warp, better than great!

Here's a power I've proposed in other threads:

I'd like a new power along the lines of what Morinth uses for defense against Samara at the end of Samara's loyalty mission.  She radiates energy outward during her "What choice?!" line.  In terms of gameplay, I see this doing three things.

  • The user would be invulnerable for the ~2 seconds of activation time.
  • The user would regain some barrier (shields).
  • Enemies near the user would take damage and be knocked back if defenseless, or stagger if still defended.

To make it an even more attractive defensive option, the user could perhaps activate this regardless of being staggered or burned, for instance.

^Pretty much the adept's equivalent of charge.

But how about two different powers?

One works in the way you've given - perhaps could be an enhanced barrier choice.

I'd also like a second which has a 100-120* (the asterisk is a degree!) horizontal angular spread about the crosshair, and sufficient vertical spread. So both hands are sent forward in a pulse, and instead of a standard shockwave, you get plane waves shockwave (if that makes sense).
