what a useless, annoying section of the game.  why was this even added to the game?

Because if I don't kill a high dragon at some point during the game I feel I've done something wrong. By the end of Origins you killed two high dragons if you count the Archdemon, then two more in Awakening just to poison me with my own testosterone. I expect more dragon killing in future DLC.

It's not as if the High Dragon in DA:O had substantial context either. You bang a gong and poof! Magic dragon pops out. I don't see it as something that necessarily advances the plot. More like, an optional boss put out in the open for those hungry for a challenge.

Bioware had to find a place to store the champion's armor.  What better than a humongous reptile?  ;)

It was added just for you, just to bother you.

This is a fantasy game called DRAGON Age. Did you honestly expect a fantasy game without some sort of epic dragon boss. It's an unwritten rule.

Bioware needed to extend your playthrough where you dodged predictable attacks and grinded down thr High Dragon HP in half an hour.
