I think (and maybe it's been said before) that Anders goes after Merrill with such malice because, well, it's his issue, too. It comes across as undiluted hypocrisy, but I think he has a lot of self-loathing that is gets focused on Merrill because he sees her on a similar path, but she hasn't fallen as far as he has.
Outside of how he treats Merrill, Anders' other comments don't bother me that much in context of the game, where everything is far more extreme. I don't see Anders gleefully supporting Fenris' return to Danarius as being any worse than Alistair gleefully agreeing that lying to Morrigan about killing Flemeth would be awesome. They're both ****s for dooming someone else but, were the tables turned, Fenris/Morrigan would probably be just as satisfied (and probably way more incisive in their remarks).
Fenris doesn't gloat if you kill Anders...
I swear, I miss Zevran's absolutely outrageous humor in DA2. Just to have someone funny and irreverant and who is just playful would have been a welcome addition to DA2.
There, I got both my Fenris AND my Zevran fangirl on in just one post. And it's almost relevant!

This is why I enjoy pairing my sarcastic Hawkes with Anders. The two of them are just so hilariously socially inept. Life is more fun(ny) with some jerks in it.
Pretty much.
They get to bumble through life together. It's the best plan ever.

As for the remark Anders makes about Sandal... I felt the same way! My first reaction was, "Aww, poor Sandal!" Then after it set in what he said, I was like, "Wait a minute -- Anders, you mean whiny bastard!"

No, but the nature of Anders' death and the circumstances around it are incredibly grave. And death is death. I have no doubt that Fenris would wholeheartedly agree with Hawke if Hawke turned Anders over to the templars, knowing what they would do to him, and he never pulls punches with Anders during the rest of the game so I can't imagine him letting that happen without saying something.

So true, I miss having Zevran around too. But Isabela fills his old role pretty well, I think.

I'm sure Fenris would have made a comment about it being the right thing to do to turn Anders in, seeing as how that's what he thinks is best, what with Anders being an abomination and all. Anders however becomes an extreme hypocrite when he starts supporting slavery only because it's Fenris who's being enslaved. They're completely different.
@Masako, totally agree on the Alistair<3Morrigan thing, I wish that in Darkspawn Chronicles they had turned out to be together, it just seems like they would fall madly in love with each other in a rivalry romance kind of way.

Glad it's not just me. I would pay good money for this. (Extra if Hawke can get in on that action.)

I'm not so sure about that. Sebastian tries to get Fenris to help him turn in Merrill and Anders and Fenris basically tells him kiss off. I'm sure that's because of Hawke, but still.Link3521 wrote...

The interactions with Anders that annoyed me were his ones with Aveline to be honest. The ones about her sex life with her dead husband. Which were horribly tactless. I know Isabela has some with her but those were about Donnic. But more the one's about her turning in a few mages to the Cirlce and later about her leading the Templar to him. Which is all a bunch of crap she probably has gone out of her way to keep Anders from getting found out just like she goes out of her way to keep the Seneschal from noticed that Fenris is squatting in a crumbling Hightown mansion. I did love Aveline's comeback though when Anders accused her of turning in mages. "And yet I let an abomination whine at me. Credit where it's due."

Seconded. You just know it was supposed to happen in the first place. There should've been an option to tell Anders:
"Your wildest fantasies come true. Sex with Fenris."

I can't get too mad about Anders being all "sweet" when you send Fenris back into slavery, because he's still not the biggest douche in the room at that point. You are.
I laughed. But that's not necessarily true! It all depends on your character's motivation.

No, I'm pretty sure you're the biggest douche no matter the reason. You might just ... win less decisively due to reasoning, I guess? I can't really think of a motivation that doesn't still make you the winner in the Douche Sweepstakes though.
Fenris was a fugitive and a criminal, and Danarius was well within his rights to do everything he did under Tevinter law. All you're doing is complying with that law.
Of course, Tevinter law has no standing in the Free Marches, and everything Danarius did could have been prosecuted in a Kirkwall court. In the Free Marches, Danarius is the criminal, and Fenris is the victim. But in Tevinter, it's the opposite. If your character is all "Yo, Tevinter is cool," then you're only the fourth-douchiest person in the room.

@ishmaeltheforsaken Except that you've spent the rest of the game killing off slavers who were after Fenris and not handing him over to them, so even if you're the fourth-douchiest person in the room you're still the most hypocritical of the lot.
What happens if you offer to hand him over the first time the slavers come?

Not certain. I've never been that much of a douche to him. I actually don't know if there's a dialogue option for that. Maybe someone can clarify it? But if you can just hand him over then, then the whole issue doesn't come up in Act III, because he's already gone.
Right, but maybe Fenris is all "Don't go there girlfriend" and you're forced to kill them all anyway.
My point is that if the game doesn't offer you a choice, then you can't really use it as an excuse. If you can honestly say "I would have if I could have" then it's not hypocritical.
Since Emperor Iaius I didn't hand over Fenris until Act III, I suspect that you can't hand him over in Act II. There's still only four instances in the entire game of you fighting the slavers. The first time, you had no idea what was going on. All the others, I think, can be avoided by simply not doing Fenris's quests.

If that is the case, then fine, you're not hypocritical. But I still think you're a bigger ****** than Anders in that situation, as the attitude "slavery is legal in Tevinter, so it's ok if I hand Fenris over to his former master, despite the fact that he's spent the last six years offering to help me" is still pretty douchey as far as I'm concerned.
Personal opinion though. None of my Hawkes are ok with slavery, so they wouldn't do it to anyone. Even Fenris.
