I tend to mix it up between sarcastic & diplomatic... the latter of which I choose when talking to Leandra & Bethany.
Sarcasm I tend to use for Varric and Isabela, direct/aggressive for Anders.
Gamlen... well, you can kind of guess which path I chose for him, with the year in servitude and all...

^Basically this, I played mainly a humourous/sarcastic path with a few sprinkles of diplomatic and aggressive response when appropriate.

And Gamlen isn't so bad, at least he started winning me over when Hawke's mother died, he comes off as very human and in the end I am rather happy he reunited with his daughter.

Personally, I enjoy a mix of all three. At the moment I'm actually having trouble deciding between Diplomacy and Sarcasm as my primary personalities, but I'll never go without the snark. Sarcasm Hawke vs. the Arishok is priceless.

"Hawke."

"Yeeeees?"

On a somewhat unrelated note, if you listen closely to the battle cries with each personality, you'll actually hear similarities between Hawke and your companions from Origins.

Snarky Hawke will yell "Let's make this quick!" [Alistair]

Diplomatic Hawke "Be careful!" [Leliana]

Aggressive Hawke "Good... let's get started!" [Morrigan]

Sarcastic/Charming female Hawke is just pure win. Most enjoyable character i've ever played. So funny and endearing and played off Isabela beautifully.

This may be a dumb question but wouldn't Marian have the same (lets say sarcastic) responses as Garret? I know the delivery is different, but the actual lines would still be all the same, yes?

Snarky Hawke for the win. I've played as aggressive Hawke, not to my tastes. Haven't done diplomatic Hawke yet.

The words spoken are the same for, I think, all dialogues (bar possibly a couple - probably ones that refer to gender). However, the delivery doesn't really make them equivalent. They often end up sounding very different despite having the same words. Like Meer and Hale have the same lines in ME2, but are worlds apart in their renditions.

Personally, I've always liked trollface Hawke, but I've never been able to play a trollface FemHawke. I thought MaleHawke's snark delivery was best, by far. I think FemHawke works well being aggressive.

A perfect example of MaleHawke's trollface brilliance is the first time he talks to Corypheus in Legacy, using the snark option:

Hawke: You are a darkspawn. Dark...Spawn. Ravaging the deep roads, spreading the Blight. Does this ring a bell?

MaleHawke's delivery of this line was masterful. FemHawke's delivery was fine, but not as good, IMO.

I personally like trollface Hawke's battle cries.  Especially after a battle ends:

Hawke: I am NOT cleaning this up.

For Fem Hawke I'd say all three personalities were delivered well, but I will admit the sarcastic lines are delivered the best. The voice actress is just suited for sarcasm. However she also delivers the diplomatic lines quite well too! :)

Aggressive.  I wasn't sold on it until the scene with Carver just after Family Ties.  The delivery of "I gave everything!  Doubt me, Mother, yourself, but never that!" was perfect.  Also the "Shut up!" *eatface* line in the Fenris romance was HOT.

Diplomatic mostly, rarely sarcastic and even more rarely aggressive.

I did my first two playthroughs with a diplo Hawke, and let me tell you, it was DULL. Snarky Hawke is the best, hands down. Especially in Mark of the Assassin!!!! Maker, she made me LAUGH!

I tend to play a dominant aggressive/direct with frequent forrays into the other two depending on the situation and who I happen to be talking to. I don't like several of the automatic lines for the snarky persona (though I love the ambient dialogue for it in Legacy and MotA). I find Blue or Red best for a dominant tone, but that's just me. Purple is comedy gold, it must be said.

Basically, much like Ineffable Igor, I just love the "Shut up." *grab* of the Fenris romance. =P

EDIT: I also have to confess that I prefer Man!Hawke for the snarky path. I just love his incredible campness.

lmao I LOVED her in Mark of the Assassin. The whole DLC was pure comedy and the voice actress was brillaint. I loved the 'you have pretty eyes' banter with Isabela and her attempts an Orlesian accent when talking to Aveline. Not to mention the whole of the garden party section. "I've been stung by a bee. Maker am I dying!!" lol!

I think ulitimately Bioware has done an amazing job casting nearly all the characters in both DA games. Thanks to their brilliant voice actors, the characters are easily the best things about the games. We are all suckers for some new banter, lets face it ;)

Sarcastic/humorous Hawke is the one I like the most. Some of her comments, especially in Legacy and MotA, were pure win.

I tend to keep to Snarky/Sarcastic Marian for most of the game.. It's probably my favourite choice. The way the lines are delivered are priceless. However i do really, *really* like Aggressive/Angry Marian.

Most of my play-throughs tend to go through a Snarky/Aggressive streak during Act2 after losing half her family, it tends to persist through the rest of the game.. So most of the time i'm Aggressively Snarky.

But Sarcastic Marian is my favourite. By far.
