Did anyone else find this...bizarre? I realise that all the combat was exaggerated (probably to make the core plot seem more epic), but does anyone else think Meredith’s abilities a little ridiculous even with all that went before? Okay, yes she has access to the idol but that doesn’t adequately explain why, all of a sudden, it makes barren statues come to life. Or why she can leap so high it verges on flying.

Even if you take into account the Profanes (Dwarves so corrupt that the Stone rejected them) and link the idol to their downfall, at least the dwarves were alive to be corrupted. The statues in the Gallows were never alive to begin with...

I really, REALLY hope that this is one of those ‘Varric embellished it’ things. One of the great points of DA:O was the fighting looked realistic given the fantasy setting. Even when you killed the Archdemon you needed an army and siege weapons.

Bringing up another point, why didn’t Cassandra question Varric about Meredith’s amazing idol powers? If I was her I’d have called bulls*^t.

Oh come on, when they have a perfect excuse to do over-the-top combat, and then people complain about it? :(
Cassandra ate what Varric told 'er like chicks eat cheese. Hell, she developed a crush on Hawke from the "true story".

I thought the end fight was great. Crazy, but great.

Magic:wizard:

Seriosuly though. In a sitting that contains genuine magical abilities, nothing is "over the top"

Cause it's magic, thats kinda what it's for.

I will point out. The Rock Wraiths are from Legend just spirits of dwarves that inhabit the rocks. Considering all the deaths in and around kirkwall through the centuries. You know what screw centuries. All the deaths just Hawke does in the city is enough to be put in all the statues with the power of the pure lyrium.

My thought was that the leaping and the lightsaber sounds were a little over the top but that the walking statues were totally sweet.

The "living" statues seemed more like a manipulation of material to me rather than coming to life. Remember that the idol is pretty much pure lyrium, giving whoever wields it unforeseen powers. It's more like Meredith pours some of her power into them and then moves them how she sees fit, which would be why she leaps out of your range initially to activate them.
Her lightsaber-esque glow on her sword was a little out there, as were her superman jumping powers. That was probably put in to make the battle more climactic.
