I ask because my rogue has 80%/73%/53% and I defintiely get knocked back more than 20% time when trash mob archers swing their bows at me in melee.  Very annoying since I cant afford the ring to prevent that yet.

knockback is a mechanic based of your fortitude and totol health in relation to the damage or physical force of the strike made against you. Defence is simply an avoidance mechanic.

The archers seem to have a move that is nothing but a knockback, which is just physical force hitting your rogue.

best solution...
arcane weapons active with the appropriate vulnerability to the group you are fighting in order to cause a "panic" effect from damage or..

only engage targets that are disabled by a mage or otherwise occupied by your tank

or keep saving for the ring

The archers are definitely hitting me, not just knocking me back.

Thanks for the tips, though the undocumented "features" which makes 80% defense not 80% is very annoying.

some enemy abilities count as spells, which means you need to pass the associated check. In this case, fortitude.

the defence is still allowing you to avoid their normal attacks.

Defense has no calculation with enemy spells or talents. They have a 100% hit rate, same for both you and your enemies.
