Anyone else find this character amazingly well written?  I was appalled when the Arishok threw his head across the room because the Viscount was doing his best to keep the peace in a broken city like so many leaders.  I felt for him and his plight with his son.  "I've already failed where it mattered most" really rang with me.

A well written character that snuck up on me!

The viscount was the only authority figure who wasn't a complete idiot or psycho. I liked him a lot.

I liked the Viscount a lot. He was a person caught in some unfortunate circumstances. The Templars initially stuck him their to be their puppet but it's clear he tried to do otherwise. And more or less he tried mediating between the Mages and Templars, believing both to be pretty big head cases. The Arishok only added to his woes.

I really liked the Viscount as well. His relationship with Kirkwall, the qunari and his son were all quite interesting.

And he seemed like a good person, which is rare in Kirkwall.

I'll admit I didn't really liked him as a character. He struck me as seriously overwhelmed by Kirkwall's struggles and not really the best man for the job. He even admits so himself at one point.

But his story arc was very interesting, I'll give him that.

He was the only one with a level head imo, but didn't have the power or respect needed to govern the city.

I was surprised by how level headed and cool he was, he even had a sense of humor which was refreshing. I feel sorry for the Viscount and his son :(

I love how quickly he asked for help after Leandra's death.

Things I liked about the Viscount:

He tried, really hard, to keep things at peace. He gave me respect for helping him out and extended some courtesy to my family because of my actions. He could see reason.

Things I disliked about the Viscount:

He wasn't strong enough to act on what he may have believed in, or even express his beliefs. He let a bad situation get worse by trying to hold on to something that was already gone.

He was a good character, but at the same time, he can be considered a source of Kirkwall's biggest issues (corruption is a big one before Aveline comes along too).

I wanted to give him a hug when he found Saemus. Poor fellow.

He was trying so hard to keep the peace (harder than Elthina in Act 3) but he seemed to be defeated at every turn. Despite understanding his son's beliefs to an extent, he was also politically-savvy enough to know what might make the Kirkwall situation worse (with his son being under the influence of Qunari being one of those things).

At least it can't get any worse. Not today, anyway. It's pretty late.

Aha, I have to admit I picked that option. He took the insensitive humour with remarkable grace, another reason for liking him. Posted Image
