I think he says it is grafted to his skin when Merrill and Varric are talking about why he is always so grumpy, and Varric suggests it's because he keeps poking himself with his armor.

May have misheard though.  The name for his armor is "Grafted Spirit Hide."

Yeah, he says it for Fenris too, where I take it as insinuating the elf would be the girl. But when it's with Anders, I always get the feeling he's taking a dig at his nephew's masculinity. Right after he says they're a family. Nice, Uncle. So glad we had that heart-to-heart.
