I think most people agree on the high quality of the DLC (both, Wardens Keep and Stone Prisoner). The opinions differ about whether or not the price is appropriate. Qualitywise I clearly prefer Stone Prisoner.
There are two ways of adding new content to the game. The wrong way first: You get some zones and some gear and that's it, there is no impact on the further game. Warden's Keep is designed this way. However the key to better DLC is its interweaving into existing content. The Stone Prisoner did it all right:
- new areas (of course)
- Shale's story evolving with the progress of the game and the main story
- party members reacting to him
- Shale has unique responses to situations throughout the main story
- NPC recognize Shale in certain Situations
Personally, I'd weigh the importance of these points roughly this way: new areas 50% or less, interweaving 50% or more. According to this formula, Warden's Keep was okay for me, but Stone Prisoner great! DLC done this way feels really connected to and part of the Dragon Age's world. So my plea to Bioware would be: Tie upcoming DLC into existing content, throughout the whole game.
A few suggestions:
- use known characters for new adventures too (adds more depth and connects emotionally to them)
- let the party react to new adventures (even if that means hiring the same voice actors)
- let new characters react to events of the main game (as Shale does)
- let characters of the main game react to the new stuff (again, re-hiring voice actors necessary)
- expand existing places (i.e. Denerim, B. Forest etc.)
P.S.
I copied most of this from another post I made.
