Think about it...Bodhan is the more formal, polite, initial speaker for the duo, who just happened to get paired up together during their travels.

Yet Sandal, with his minimalist English-language equivalent of beeps and boops, is cool and likeable like R2 is, and just like R2 he has a few tricks hidden away to be used at the right time.  Sandal also manages to get himself out of sticky situations with enchantments and "not enchantment" (like R2 does by fogging the enemies view of the battlefield, and by fixing the hyperdrive).  And just like with R2, if you tinker with Sandal enough, he will deliver a special message.

I hope these two guys continue to be in the thick of things as the Dragon Age saga continues.

They are very much so. Which is why many people think the next game will be in Orlais, based on where they're heading next.

Makes me groan, but there it is.

They've made their mark on the series. I personally can't see Dragon Age without them now ;)

Besides... there's something more to Sandal than meets the eye.

I really hope they keep Sandal as he is. I don't mind they have him delver occasion prophetic words and hint at some mystery behind him, but that's where I want it to stay. Up till now he's largely been there for the comic relief, I really don't want him to become some major character in future DA games

I really hope they don't make it to Orlais - we already have so much information about it - lets get something new

Then I guess I shouldn't spoil things by telling you the final confrontation in DA3 will be between Sandal, the Godbaby and the Starmetal Crater Baby over Meridith's Super Sword....

I agree that there's no need to make Sandal anything more than he is, a Lyrium-addled savant.

But.. you know they will. He'll probably end up being Dumat or something.

I kind of like the idea of Sandal maybe becoming the first Dwarven Mage.. Would be rather awesome..

And I think Bodahn and Sandal are a little bigger in Dragon Age lore than C3PO and R2D2 are in Star Wars lore. Or at least going to be (I mean, if we have a new protagonist in DA3, they're going to have accompanied the 3 most important characters of Thedas).

I'm with The Angry One, I don't want Sandal to be anything more than he is, either. I'm fine with his unexplained, pseudo-psychic behavior. Keeping a bit of mystery around him is intriguing. But you can almost ruin the effect when you try to explain it.

Yeah, but you see it is this exact point that you're making that cements the 3PO and R2 comparison.   The driods are the only characters who made it through the entire SW story arc.  That's basically Sandal and Bohdan.  They traveled with the Warden, they lived in the Champion's home in Kirkwall,  and there's a pretty good chance they will catch up with the 3rd protagonist and his/her companions for DA3.

Their role in things doesn't need to become any more important than it already is.

Oh god, now I just know the devs are going to sneak in C3P0 and R2D2 references into DA3, just watch.

That reminds me, the other day I saw Steve Valentine (Alistair) dressed up as C3P0 on TV.
Damn my niece's stupid Disney channel rubbish.

Like everyone said before I don't want Sandal to become more than he is but they will definitely are and will continue to be the C-3PO and R2-D2. Anytime I talk to sandal it makes me smile

Agreed. Almost made a similar thread yesterday. And I also think Sandal should remain as is, that's what gives it humor. "Not Enchantment"

Sandal is an abomination possessed by the heretofore unknown Forrest Gump Demon. :D

So does that mean there is a yet-to-be-discovered Rune of Gump?

@OP:

Hardly. R2 and C-3PO are characters that are part of the group dynamic. They participate in the events of the story and alter it for their part in it. They are true characters.

In contrast, Sandal and Bodahn barely do anything. They're hardly more than somewhat colorful wallpaper. Duh.

So if the Warden didn't save Sandal and Bodhan from highwaymen and darkspawn, then the warden would have gotten rumors, enchantments, and equipment from someone else?  Maybe.  But would he/she have made it through to the archdemon by him/herself?  Don't know, since Sandal definitely helped somehow.

So if Sandal hadn't stopped the Darkspawn in the Deep Roads, Hawke would have done it instead?  Maybe, but we don't know since Sandal definitely helped somehow.

I wouldn't call that barely doing anything, but perhaps on Casual Difficulty for you they barely do anything.

But all the mystery surrounding Sandal's origin, possible relationship with Flemeth, and prophesizing are reason enough to keep them around through the saga.

I could have done without forever thinking of those characters when I see Bodahn and Sandal now. :(

Life is like a box of enchantments.

I could see Bodhan and Sandal filling that role, even though it's pretty forced and cringe worthy sometimes. Wade and Herren would have worked better as that old couple that the droids could sometimes be interpreted as. :P

If that's what they are, I hope that's all they'll be. Please no big Sandal revelations. That would just be too much.
