I am making a cave that is completely dark. I am experimenting with putting grass with a very small blade size to give the impression of cave moss. The effect is good but the grass flickers between its appropriate color and completely black seemingly at random. If I leave the directional light on in the area but at a very low intensity, then the grass stays black consistently. This isn't terrible, but I'd like to get it to consistently render the proper color.
Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Don't use grass, use a grass texture.

Hadn't thought of that. I'll try it. Thanks.

I think the grass is stuck in shadow, try using the swamp moss patch instead.

Tons of grass textures, and the darkness of the cave should hide any greenness in a texture well. Performance should be better too. You can always get different colors with the color brush., some of the rocky textures with a color brush might look good.

These are all great suggestions and I plan on using them. I have figured out how to make the grass render. I put the ground light intensity to 1.0 and set the color to a dark purplish-blue. This renders the grass and even gives it a feint glow like the cave plant placeables.
Lugaid, thanks for the moss patch suggestion I am using it for sure.
Kamal, I am going to try out some grass textures now to see how they look as well.

I tried the moss and the grass texture and it looks really good. Added some drips and small jungle foliage and it looks nice.
