It really depends how many allies you have in a really close proximity. I was playing around with a DPS focused SnS Hawke with Elemental Aegis and a couple of Ice and Fire warding Runes, Isabella with the runes and and two warding accessories, Anders specc'd for AoE DPS and Varric with the Bianca tree.
Hawke would be in the middle, typically focusing on the Elite/Boss. Isabela would typically be on the other side of the baddies backstabbing the elite or any other annoying enemy and occasionally using Evade to avoid an Assault or Scatter. Ander's would be behind Hawke nuking the area or protecting the party's flanks with Glyphs. Varric would be slightly behind/at the side of Ander's Setting up DISORIENTATE, Debuffs and Obscure with Fatiguing Fog, taking advantage of BRITTLE with Archer's Lance and Bursting Arrow as well as occasionally using Armistice and Goad.
With Hawke getting 50% of everyone's threat that was very rarely an issue, if there was any threat problems on Ander's or Varric, Isabella had Twin Fangs at the ready. If they went after Isabella or Varric they could stealth or Ander's could use a Glyph.
Is it the most the most powerful min-max party combo ever devised? No. Could I use it successfully through 90% of Nightmare and still have the tools to change things up for the other 10%? Yup.
EDIT: Completely went of on a tangent and forgot about Bravery.
At first you'd think Bravery would be better for a two-hander, seeing as how it's a lot harder to be immune to elemental damage than physical and that they're exceptional at cleaving through large groups of normal enemies.
I suppose the attack boost would be great at lower levels, until it naturally reaches the 90s. Then maybe you could capitalise on the boost to your critical rate with runes and equipment, Fenris' Lyrium Ghost is just plain awesome.
The damage boost upgrade seems a bit lacklustre, especially considering the damage output you get with Blood Frenzy/Veneer of Calm and Cleave. It's not terrible, but it's not great.
As for the threat... With the damage output and AoE of a two-hander is threat that much of a problem? Maybe against the enemy commander's who can re-direct threat?
I've not put a lot of time into a two-hander, so that's mostly conjecture.
