I cannot fathom why anyone would want DAO back except for better looking elves.

I went back to playing DA:O again after DA2. DA:O is soooo slow and graphically awful. That said, most everything else about DA:O is better.

Dragon Age 2 looks, feels and plays (especially the combat) like a CARTOON. It's just terrible. Please bring back the original presentation if u ever make Dragon Age 3

Dragon Age 2, Origins was completely bland and generic.
By bland and generic you mean tried to be realistic? Yeah I'll take that over this exaggerated animesque style, characters of which look like came out of some cartoon network episode.

Only thing in my opinion that were better visually, were Isabella and perhaps Qunari in DA2.
But I hate retconning , so I would take Origins style back even if it meant losing new qunari rather than suffer from DA2 cartoony feeling.

DA2 was just an overexaggeration of itself.

Because generic in this context means "real". Frak those kinds of complaints.
It's like complaining that Medal of Honor looks like Call of Duty or somesuch... OF COURSE THEY DO. They both try to depict the same thing (WW2 or modern war) for crying out loud!
What, does everything need to stand out?
Uniquness? Sanding out? These thing are for superficial, shallow fools.

I love how generic fantasy translates to realistic fantasy, oh such comedy ~

Art design was a big improvement IMO. Plenty of other things weren't

After hearing DA2 looked like Anime and JRPG's..I went and looked at them...
..DA2 does look like them.
The irony here is of course the direction the art went was to distinguish itself from everything else.

Not only in artstyle but even in the speed of combat, demon's souls proves that you don't need to have over the top animations for the combat to be enjoyable. That 3 or 4 enemies can provide a harder battle and more tactics than weaves of 30 "awesome" ninjas.

Usually does.
In 99% of all cases, people who complain about something being "generic" have no idea what they're talking about.

DA2 the mage powers look a lot better. Along with the people.
BWAHAHAHHAAHAAaa...
DA2 peopel have better proportiona (hands look OK). But that's it.
The spells DEFINATELY don't look better.
One cannot even compare the awesomeness that is Inferno or Tempest to the crappy effects of DA2.
Teh mages have more animations - that is a good thing. But animations are often over-the top, which is a bad thing.

Pros:
-Qunari are without a doubt the best improvement 2 had to offer. They're always extremely interesting to have on screen. Particularly the Arishok, who has a distinct, brooding, and calculating majesty about him.
-The Chantry and the Templars got a slight face lift that I thought was very well done. It has a better and more expansive middle ages Catholicism vibe to it that makes it seem like it's already a relic in it's time. I like how a lot of the Templars have WWI doughboy shoes. It makes them very distinct looking. I also like the idea of the Chantry symbol being branded into the foreheads of tranquils now. It ties the mages to the Chantry a lot better than they felt in Origins, I think.
-Flemeth. Her scenes gave me chills. I like that she was given a similar look in wardrobe to Morrigan with the leather arm guards and the feathers. That being said, I don't think that should be a permanent look for her, of course. That should be sort of a high alert form for her when she's going to war and/or changing locales, changing back to her crotchety self when she no longer needs to kill everything she looks at.
Cons:
-Darkspawn. How could you possibly think that was an improvement? This was the first thing I saw that bothered me during the promotions. The emissaries look like they're part of a Marilyn Manson video shoot. Hurlocks just look like severely malnourished people with swords and impractical armor. Ogres got really fugly, but I don't have too much of a problem with that seeing as how they're ogres and all. Genlocks and shrieks seemingly no longer exist, which is odd seeing as how genlocks are supposed to be the most plentiful.
-Elves. Avatar wasn't as good as you thought it was. All I need is the story and lore to make me feel bad for them, you didn't have to make them look like crying puppies all the time. And I know this isn't visual, but why are the Dalish suddenly Irish? The Dalish are supposed to be made up of Elves from all over Thedas, and then more come in where ever the caravans stop. I liked it more when they were pretty much former slaves trying to emulate something from their former greatness as best they could, not inherently in tune with nature, but doing their best.
-Blood. Bloodbloodbloodbloodbloodbloodbloodbloodbloodbloodbloodbloodblood.
-Dragons that aren't High Dragons look like crap. I don't really know how to elaborate that. They're too serpentine and look like they come out of a story book (as silly as the criticism sounds).
-Fenris. Get that anime cosplayer out of my game, please.
I like to think, as many others have mentioned, that Varric is kind of the Zach Snyder of the Dragon Age universe, though, and stupidly embellishes the hell out of everything, so this can all be changed in 3.

Usually does.
In 99% of all cases, people who complain about something being "generic" have no idea what they're talking about.
Most people when they talk about generic when they talk about fiction simply refers to the product being the same as the next, with nothing of its own to add.
& DA:O was very generic, esp. visually, and DA2 is still generic and follows the normal fantasy formula, but they moved away from it in some regards visually, but only ever so slightly, and one of the movements seems to be towards more of a anime/japanese/manga flair on the armour design, for better or worse.
They could have made their own races, and not had the standard elves, the standard ugly angry dark enemy brought on by an angry god, they could have skipped many of these and it would still have been as realistic as having them, for nothing says realism like elves.
You could argue that its generic to have humans, and having humans adds realism, or a sense of realism to the game; but since having an other type of being as the avatar wouldn't be less realistic, just less referential to us and thus we would feel less immersed.
I approve of generic fantasy to some extent, and I don’t want to play a totally different being that would feel alien to me, I wouldn’t want a made up language with subtitles, but it has little to do with realism.
And realism is an inclination toward literal truth and pragmatism, not towards looking like everybody else, or having elves and dwarves.
EDIT:
There are actually many ways in which they could have made the game look less generic through realism, as in making all armours more functional, avoiding the fantasy romp of the grandiose, making combat, and how it looked more realistic.
That said when they moved away from the DA:O combat to the DA2 version, they actually made the game more generic when it comes to computer games and esp. action cRPGs, and less realistic as they followed suit with games like Devil May cry, GoW, other games and anime combat
And I'd say most people claim the same when they say that it looks too generic, so I'm probably in the 99% according to you ~

The graphic redesign made the game look worse, and drained resources from other areas in an already rushed game. Fail.
