Anyone know why the Arishok has such elaborate horns?

I don't know what to feel about that...

Even when ignoring the horns, he just doesn't look like Sten at all :(

Yeah, DA2 qunari do look different.

He doesn't have horns btw. The real horns are much bigger and grow above the small bits. Wasn't sure what to do about these but since they don't seem to be part of the "true" horns (they have the same size for Arishok and the other qunari) i left them in.

Well, it is mostly that he is black instead of bronzed for me.

I think the lower horns are a no for Sten too though.

Hopefully they'd remove them if Sten comes back.

But good job BTW!
He's closer to bronze than well the pale white Qunari in DA2. I wonder how the Arishok would look like bronzed.

It's the default qunari skin tint applied to the model. The effect is actually interesting i thought, since it gives him the sort of sheen that explains where the whole "golden skinned giant" thing could've come from. (the DA2 qunari are similar in this regard except bluish-silver in base tone)

I'm of two minds about he smaller horns myself. On one hand it would make sense, on the other hand they complement the structure in front of them, it cuts rather abruptly without them. Maybe some kind of stump-like shape could work instead, dunno.

Okay. Yeah I can see where thet'd come from.

Something like the things on the top of his forehead? I can see how the head would be odd without them.

Yeah, sort of like shortening and curving them so they go closer to the skull and end roughly together with ear tips. I'll see when/if i get another while to play with it.

For the sake of comparison, with reduced smaller horns the appearance is like this:

The dark / bronze skin is awesome, why didn't they keep it?? Like you said, they look more like the "golden giants" that they were made out to be. And closer to what Sten looked like.

The new pic looks more tolerable than the first. Can you zoom in a bit so we can see the details?

You can right-click view or copy/paste for full resolution, should give some better details Posted Image

and agreed about the skin tone. I didn't expect it to have such effect but really liking how it looks, especially in game and in motion with the sheen moving when the poses and camera angle change.

Yea I know, but I wanted a closer look of his face.

Better than the one with horns (great job!) but still not Sten :( Hopefully should he come back, they'd remove the things coming out of his forehead as well. But they'd probably keep the "bottom" facial structure.

If you have time (or want to), can you see what the Arishok would look like with bronze skin please?
Bronze Qunari might be a mod I'd download for DA2.

Hmm dunno, these forehead bits aren't what i'd expect to entirely vanish even without the horns so maybe they'll keep them, it's part of the new look. I should've changed the hairstyle a bit now that i look at it, looking at the concept art the middle strand can start much lower, right where the forehead bits make a V shape.

Not sure if it's possible to add the tint to the DA2 qunari, they may be done bit different. I'll see later though, you got me curious as well what he'd be like.

Hmm, my first theory is it's for mating displays.

My second (and more serious theory) is maybe it's like the Doth'raki in A Song of Ice and Fire series. The Doth'raki men are allowed to have their hair grow for as long as they have never been defeated in battle. The Khal (their leader)'s hair ends up being the longest because if he's been defeated more times than the other warriors, he wouldn't be the Khal.

Imagine Qunari with bells hanging from their horns.:D

Turns out getting skin tint to work on DA2 qunari would require either lots of tweaking or (preferably) Toolset, so the easier --and working-- alternative was to adjust the textures directly. Doesn't produce equally neat effect, though Posted Image

Posted Image

Too lazy to redo the Arishok as well, but he'd look pretty much like that too, just with giant red shoulderpads and the skirt.

Presuming Sten wouldn't have easy access to qunari body paint, but he doesn't look too bad with it too.

If he did, bet Morrigan would love to help him get the pattern just right. Posted Image

Since I was looking for the link early for another thread.

Here is why the horns on the Arishok are the way they are.
