I'm in act 2, i flirted with both of them, both have visited me at my home, Isabela doesn't want to commit to a serious relationship (yet, i pressume), with Merrill on the other hand the game puts you before a choice (as far as i understand), either end the romance or get her to move in with you. So, if you say to Merrill she should move in with you, is that the definitive end of Isabela's romance path? I have trouble deciding which woman i like more *lol*.

Please no big spoilers.

Yes, asking Merrill to move in will kill Isabela's (and Fenris', should you be pursuing him) romance. Sleeping with Merrill, even if you tell her it's just a fling, will also most likely kill Isabela's romance. Merrill (along with Anders) is an unstoppable romance-destroying juggernaut. Woe to any who stand in their way.

If you have further questions regarding Isabela, I suggest checking out the Isabela FAQ. The link is in my sig.

Even our local ****ty pirate doesn't like to share Hawke.

On a more relationship-related note, I'd say it's more like Isabela concludes that Hawke isn't serious about her, and she genuinely cares for Merrill like a big sister, so she's more than willing to step back to let Hawke and Merrill get together. Isabela's general attitude is non-committal anyway; she needs Hawke to show her that it's not such a bad thing to get her to change her mind.

But yeah, for such a promiscuous person, it requires a surprisingly large amount of commitment to her to really get her.

You can still get some romance options with Isabella after, though. She asked if I was with Merrill and I said something like "Don't be silly, its all about you." Her reply was something like "Well, don't let Merrill hear you say that" and something about not letting Merrill get hurt on her self destructive quest. Later, Isabella asks If I'll join her on her ship. None of them are flagged with a heart. I chose the one "what about Merrill" and she says "bring her along. A blood mage obsessed with mirrors is always useful to have around"

Thanks for chiming in. Damn, looks like i need to make a choice, right about now. Hmm... i guess i'll give Merrill the boot then, poor girl...

Just to confirm, flirting with Merrill is okay as long as you don't sleep with her, right?

You get those dialogues regardless of whether you're in a romance with Isabela. If she's still in a romance, you will get a heart option during the ship dialogue. You will be unable to complete Isabela's romance under those circumstances, and all party banters will treat Hawke as if (s)he were romancing Merrill. I'd elaborate further, but the OP asked for as few spoilers as possible, so I am trying to keep it to a minimum.

Yes. You can flirt with Merrill, but Isabela's romance will end if you sexytime somebody else. To be safe, if Merrill shows up at the estate for sexytime, you have to turn her down. There's a bit more to Isabela's romance too... if you really want to complete it, you have to discuss love with her post-sexytime. If you don't, she'll just consider it a fling.

Basically the game doesn't let you pull off crap like some did in Origins. Things like romancing 2 characters and then not talking to them until at the end. Let you have stuff like Leliana and Morrigan. As long as you didn't click on whichever one was about to challenge you? You could have both. So yeah they got rid of that kind of option in DA2.

edited to add.

Keep in mind it's odd with Isabela & Fenris because the not moving in will confuse you. If you didn't bring up love? Then you may need to reload. As stated before. Sleeping with anyone else will basically end the relationship. Fenris works the same way. Ironically Fenris and Isabela are almost the male/female counter parts for almost how their romances play out function wise. Where Merrill and Anders are the moving in ones in Act 2. Killing all other romances.

What do you mean? As far as i remember i couldn't talk to Isabela about our relationship since our little together time. I always do all companion quests, or are there instances where there's dialog with someone without the game giving you notice in your quest journal?

EDIT:
Oh, you mean the dialog right after the sex scene? Yes, i did mention love and that she seems affraid of hurting someone.

Again, not quite true.  In another playthrough, I responded to merril's after sexay time dialogue with the heartbreak "woah" kind of response and the Isabella romance continued just fine.  I have the achievement to show it.

Yeah, if you don't follow that line right then, its just roll in the hay time.  You don't get a second chance to convince her you are serious.

So there are achievements for every romance option, like in DAO? Damn, that's a lot of playthroughs...

I said "to be safe". I've done a decent amount of research on what will allow Isabela's romance to continue if Hawke does the sexy dance with others. With regards to Merrill, I've gotten more accounts of sleeping with her, then telling her it is a fling resulting in an ended Isabela romance than not ending the romance. There are cases (such as yours and certain others) who *have* been able to continue Isabela's romance after Merrill's sexytime, but it isn't really clear what causes this (my guess is a bug... Mary Kirby has posted before saying that the romance should end if you sleep with Merrill or Anders). Most playthroughs have resulted in Isabela ending it after Merrill sex, just like most playthroughs will not see Isabela's special moment at the end of Act 2 without completing her "Questioning Beliefs" quest. I've heard reports of Isabela's special Act 2 moment happening without completing Questioning Beliefs, but it's a rare occurrence and I'm not sure what's causing it (similarly, Mary Kirby said that you're supposed to complete Questioning Beliefs to get it to happen).

Anyway, I was just giving the OP information guaranteed to be correct. It's entirely possible to do the sexy dance with Merrill and continue Isabela's romance, but I'm not sure what circumstances those fall under. Most folks I've talked with have had the same experience as me (sexytime with Merrill = end of Isabela romance).

Not that I know of... there's only one achievement and that's for "completing" a romance. You get that once you complete a romance with anyone, not necessarily a particular character.

No, there's only a single romance achievement. And it's only four playthroughs

Yeah, sorry. It was my first playthrough that I did that. I meant that I got the "completed a romance" achievement for completing the Isabella romance despite having also slept with Merril.

I usually don't go through a game more than twice, thrice at the most.

There are so many games to play! ;)

2nd playthrough, I slept with both of them, got the relationship trophy with merril but at the end where varric says everyone left hawke through different circumstances, he says excpet for isabella. So I guess hawke's too much for isabella to resist over time.

It's a known bug where Varric names whoever Hawke initiated a romance with first, rather than completed. It's actually possible to get Varric to say multiple names at the same time during that sequence, which is a pretty neat trick.

Saying it was just a fling to Merill ends the Isabela romance.

True there might be allot of games to play but to be honest with you there aren't all that many that interest me. I mainly enjoy the Cprg games like Baulders gate, Never Winter nights DA, DA2 and to a lesser extent The Witcher.  Don't care for the space games or the shooter games nor do I care for the ones for which you can only play online. So that pretty much narrows the field down for me. Not to mention I'm not spending all my hard earned cash on games. Posted Image

I am a bit confused. I did it with Isabela and questioned her about love and everything to initiate the romance, then I boned Merrill and Anders and told both of them that it was just a fling. Now, I understand that for many people that should end Isabela's romance, but I did her Act 3 quest and she confessed her love for me and everything and I selected to continue the romance. However, when I did the Murder of the Crows quest I can't seem to be able to do the thing that requires Isabela to be romanced, if you catch my drift.

Sounds like you found a previously-unknown bug. I'll try to investigate this myself tonight, but there's definitely some sort of oddity with the romance flags going on in your game. What platform are you playing on? (PS3, 360, PC, mac)

I am on the 360. I found a similar report on the Dragon Age Wiki where someone on the PC romanced Isabela and got her to confess her love, yet the "special dialogue" in that mission didn't occur.
