Ranger didn't make much sense, that's true. Was a stretch, anyway. It never makes any sense (even if its magic).
I was thinking more along the lines of Spirit Healer or Spirit Warrior. Basically like Foolsfolly said, an abomination spec of sorts, except in this case you make a pact with a Lady of the Forest-type spirit... one which can take the form of a variety of different animals.
Makes enough sense to me.

What about if you have the Ranger do a whistle depending on which animal you want, and said animal comes running to your side?

Player can choose their race
More companion interaction.
New graphics engine (no more outdated by 12 year system)
Cities that actually look alive
Refined combat engine (mix if Origins and DA2)
No more waves of enemies that dropped down from the sky
No more recycled areas
Female dwarf companion (LI, because it's overdue)
Female Quanri companion (LI, fans seem to want it)
Likable companions (DA2 was too much of a mixed bag)
More outfits for companions
A story that isn't all over the place
Please don't butcher returning characters from previous games (I'm looking at you Anders!)

I was thinking ranger would make more sense if taking the Ranger spec opened up an animal companion party slot that you could switch when you change your party, and the animal could fall in battle like any other companion but doesn't poof away in smoke.
I guess whistling would work though it strains belief sometimes, I still would like the companion to be permanent until unsummoned though. (in which case they run off screen somewhere and the new one run in from off screen)

I want:
- A font that is legible on older TVs (and for older eyes)
- Romance cutscenes that show an ongoing relationship with my LI. In DA:2, I would have like to have offered Fenris the key to the basement saying something like "It's yours, even if you never use it." I also would have liked the chance to kiss my LI on a regular basis or suggest that we retire to our room. I loved that in DA:O.
- Please make the romance less disjointed. They didn't feel ongoing, they felt compartmentalized.
- I want to be able to use all that wonderful armour I spent good money for on my companions. Please let me choose their outfits again.
- Every mage should have a heal spell. Here's why: Survival has meaning. I would think that one of the first spells any mage would learn is a heal spell, if only for oneself. Perhaps they aren't very good at it. Perhaps they can only heal themselves. But it makes no sense that a mage cannot heal him/her self.
- More Cullen.
- Nathaniel as an LI. Please!
- Loved the Mage Armour I got in the DLC pack. Best looking women's mage armour in the game. I would have loved the ability to upgrade it rather than leave it behind and wear my Daddy's coat. Fewer robes, more mage armour, please.
- Let me enhance my staff rather than use a new one with runes and enchantment. Same thing. Some are prettier than others. I'd prefer to keep them.
- I want Morrigan's hairstyle! Can we please have pretty upswept hair like Morri's? She had the best hairdo in either game and only she gets to wear it. Not fair!
- How about a shapeshifter specialization that works the way it did in the Fade? Instant change, you keep some talents or get some talents....loved the Fade shapeshifting. Hated the "turn into a spider and leap!"
- Can we go to Tevinter? Please? Are we there yet? I so want to see Tevinter! I want to see the Imperium and a region where you can be a mage in the open.
- Epic cutscenes like the battles of Ostagar and Denerim....Ostagar blew me away the first time I saw it. Wonderful!
- Conversations with my companions wherever and whenever. Miss that.
- The mirror of transformation needs to be in the next vanilla game. I loved changing my hair.
- The ability to switch weapons quickly, and the ability for anyone to use a bow or dagger (if their stats are high enough)
- Elven eyes need to be smaller and more human (Like Fenris' eyes) instead of large ET eyes (like Merrill). Big, bug eyes are NOT sexy.
- No More CHEESY LOOT. I hated battling some tough bad guy to death only to have the loot be.....wait for it, wait for it......A TORN PAIR OF TROUSERS! Huh? Please don't do that any more.
- Caves and mines need to be scary and ugly. They shouldn't look like underground gardens of Eden. DA:2's caves and mines were too pretty, oh, and you reused them way too much, but I think you know that by now.

Maybe this time choosing a side between templars and mages and having lead them to a civil war victory.

- a more extended unveiling of Flemeth's character
- if the third game is covering a decade of history, more character evolutions, and character appearance changes over that period of time.
- bring back the magic weapon, armor and other item histories like they were done in Origins (and Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale). I think the set armor from each act had a history, but most items did not.
- add a feature to the codex, that seperates read codexes to a different tab... or by some other mechanic, make it possible to not loose unread codexes among all the read ones. When I pick up a new codex, in Origins it would sometimes automatically go to the new codex, but other times, I wouldn't be sure which codex it was that I just picked up. DA2's mechanic was an improvement, but an accidental extra button push would make the pop-up codex disappear...or if a battle was on, you'd close the window and not have a chance to know which codex that I'd just added.

I want to topple the Imperium, and Orlais. kill the Empress and the "White" divine.
That'll work too-- as long as I get to throw the Divine through a window or have my Templars hack her to pieces on her couch or some such, I'm cool.

Definately variation in armor from fade-demon looking armor with spikes and a demonic look to armor that looks holy saintly and welcoming.
The chance to use your character from the first two games as party members. If not that then have them show up, definately Fenris.
I hope they expand upon more of what screwed everything up and give us a definate instead of legends and stories.
Obviously more weapons to match the armor variations.
More enchantments... less sandol.
Maybe a choice in your Mabahir warhound look.
Then I guess my final hope that will be unanswerred would by Scythes, I wouldn't care if they went into the hammer, axe, or greatsword category but ware or battle scythes would be totally awesome in these games.

- Origins.
- Humans, Elves, Dwarves and Qunari playable. Male an female of course.
- Less magical vendor trash items. (In DA:O you could even fiind normal rings. This was great!)
- If you're an apostate the templars should try to force you into the circle or just try to kill you, if you're a blood mage.
- Tie specializations to the story! You want to be a Templar? Join the order? You want to be a blood mage? Make a deal with a demon. No just unlock it an have it forever!

The gamplay should be like a mix of origin and DA2 and it should not be as fast as DA2 or slow as DAO

I like this. I've seen it in games before (though I can't recall any names at the moment), where the story branches are tied to the class trees. In Origins the critical events for the first specialisations would have to take place in the Wilds or in the Ostagar Tower. In DA2, they have the excuse of 'the event happened between your arrival at Kirkwall and the end of your mercenary contract'. But it would be better if the unlocking of your first specialisation involved a specific quest or event during the first act... and the second specialisation event or quest sometime in the second act. A character who took spirit healer first and force mage second should have a different story than one who went force mage first and spirit healer second.

Hell maybe the Grey Wardens could be a joinable group once you get high level enough, they approach you after hearing of your prowess and want you to join them. The same could be done with the Antivan Crows for rogues. Maybe the only way to get a certain specialization is to join the faction that has it, making it more realistic than reading a book sold by a dwarf on the street corner.

1) No Abominations rising out of the floor boards. Abominations are not demons, they are possessed mages. If there are going to be abominations, have some people standing there and then spazzing out as they turn into abominations, at the very least.
2) No instantly having access to all the special talent trees just for being a specific level. Templar, Blood Mage, Assassin... these things should be earned through questing or at the very least finding an instruction manual. Specializations like Templar and Blood Mage should possess some storyline significance, at least in how characters react to you if nothing more.
3) Don't leave the player having to choose from a false dichotomy like at the end of DA2. If you want to make it so that there are only two choices, you better cover all the bases and not leave any gaping plot holes... like all the nobility in a certain city owing you their lives when it has been hinted at that they control the city's standing army. Not to mention being friends with the city guard on top of that kind of turns it more into a trichotomy.
As for things I'd like to see in the game:
1) A storyline that allows the player's actions to direct the outcome of events, as opposed to having the same outcome happen in different ways. Sure, its alright to do what they did in DA2 when you are dealing with something that must happen in the central plot, such as the defeating of the Archdemon in Dragon Age: Origins. However, it shouldn't be used at every story critical junction throughout the game.
2) An additional female romance partner. DA2 had two female romance options and three male ones. Even with Sabastian being strictly platonic, their should still be one more female character to balance that out.
