Anders didn't hit on me this time...

The first time I played a warrior that used only good-guy responses for everything, and I got the infamous "no middle road" Anders hit.

The second time I was a rogue that used only funny/charming responses (middle option). Although several romance options came up in the wheel in conversations with Anders, they were all ignorable. He never hit directly. We had a discussion once where he didn't like what I said and I got -5 rivalry, but never any hint of romance. I imagine that using aggresive responses will work much the same. BTW I later got him to high friendship.

So, for those who would rather not be cornered by Anders, it would seem that not being too nice to him is the way. He's one of my favorite companions now. In the first playthrough, well there was this thing that soured the relation.

Of course, you need some metagaming to get this knowledge, but it also happened with Zevran in my first playthrough of DAO. Later I knew how to "handle" the touchy subject.  Say what you want, but I prefer my game that way.

Anders? You mean Andstice? That's not Anders, apparently he died in Awakenings. That's some abomination with it's own agenda pretending to help people in need, until his true colors come out and he kills the very people he was helping. Poor people seeking shelter in the Chantry..

On topic, yes there are ways to avoid his sexual advances. Thankfully.

Yeah I had a similar problem, he hit on my male first character which I thought was odd and had to put him down gently (considering all he talked about was girls in DAA and would hit on female warden). Seems he isn't expecting such support and warms rather quickly too you.

Second time I just chose sarcastic options and managed to avoid it, although he gets aggressive if you take light of his situation.

I kind of like that there's an option for shyer characters out there to initiate a romance (or rather, have it initiated). Not that mine was, but. Still, nice touch. ;P

I found that odd too since he seemed rather playboyish in Awakening, talking about women and what not. Was strange to see Anders hitting on my male Hawke the first time. I guess some time after Awakening Anders met Karl and turned gay.

Let's not forget some of Anders' banter in Awakening came off as flirtatious when Nate was involved (I'm thinking of the whole "Not when I'm naked," line, said in a rather suggestive tone). Sure it could have been taken as playful ribbing, but me and my slash-goggles interpreted it as something slightly more romantically inclined. And with the previous descriptions of the Circle as being rather into free love, this shouldn't have surprised anyone.

Karl also came before Awakening, so he didn't "turn Anders gay" (I really hate that phrase, by the way). Anders isn't even "gay" in the strict meaning of the word. He says he believes people fall in love with a whole person. That's love ignoring gender roles. What's funny is I just finished re-reading Orlando for one of my Lit classes before playing this game. Woolfe is a big proponent of love without gender (or rather, that we all have aspects of the feminine and masculine inside us, and what's on the outside isn't as important). Anders comes across as someone written in that vein, caring less about the biology and more about the emotional connection.

In that light, he latches onto a diplomatic/kind-hearted Hawke. That's mostly likely the sort of person he's attracted to. That's not to say you can't complete the romance if you're snarky or aggressive. You just have to be the one to initiate it then.

Here's a solution to stop him from hitting on you: be a douche to him.

Every playthrough I get full rivalry from Anders, and full friendship from everyone else.

Even Fenris. I find it amusing when Sebastian manages to pry out Fenris' secret religious ways.

Play a female? I know he hits on female Hawkes, too, but I've never once stumbled on the option, on either a sarcastic or diplomatic character. He hates my PCs. Calls them "little girl."  Takes one to know one, jerk!

Heh. Yet again, I am rewarded for being a d-bag in my first playthrough.

...

1) Anders was with Karl while he was still in the Circle.... long before Awakening.
2) You cannot "turn gay".

Well, considering he calls you a little girl after you threaten to take the information about the deep roads by force, it's questionable who's the jerk here.

Maybe Justice is gay.

Ah, I didn't recall where I got that line.  True, true.  lol

Fenris does not -- the closest you get is when he calls Hawke capable, and while there's a heartbreak there (which will cut off ALL flirt options for Hawke), the romance is not persued unless Hawke is the one doing the initiating.  Anders can as long as you pick diplomatic answers at first.

Apathy, Karl would have been before his possession by Justice. Would be nice if you could explain the change in his character, but seems more likely just another example of contradictions and inconsistencies inevitable in an ongoing series.

Make fun of him (purple options) for being a whiny paranoid glowy-eyed schizoid terrorist and he won't find you attractive.

He is more prone to hit on your male hawke than female hawke. My male hawke was nice and he was hit on. My female hawke was flirty with Anders and at first he told her not to "go there". It took a little work for my female hawke to get anything going with him. I was quite surprised.

No, if you're nice with a female hawke he hits on you as well (without flirting first).

This.

However he's a little lighter with a male Hawke, while with female Hawke he's immediately worried about breaking her heart. I guess I can see why this was done the way it was (not really) but it does seem like he flirts with and then immediately rejects female Hawke in Act 1.

Nothing inevitable about it.  Writers choose convenience over what has come before, and the result is sloppy storytelling.

Hmm, he doesn't pull the "I'll break your heart" line on a dude? Weird.

I still intend to do a manHawke playthrough at some point. I have a crush on TrailerHawke so it's inevitable.

Different voice actor should = different character altogether.
