Mass Effect is a Science fiction Roleplaying Videogame, set in a third person perspective.

Did I mention it was a videogame yet?

That's because you misunderstood the dialog. When Tali speaks about getting a fever from Chickenpox, she's talking about the Quarian reaction to L-Amino Acid bacteria or viruses. Since her body can't process the threat, it overreacts - thus an allergic reaction. Our bodies would probably do the same thing if there were any significant threats that actually used L-AA's, but there's only a handful of uses for them - and not a single organism on Earth that uses them exclusively.

Fever, however, is not necessarily a sign of a strong immune system. It's just a sign of a present immune system. Fevers are the most basic response - you heat the body up to slow down the rate of bacterial enzymes while your immune cells take care of it.

Strong and weak immune systems induce fever in humans. The length of the fever usually betrays which it is, since once the threat is gone, the fever breaks.

Ow shoot, been a while since I spotted someone who actually payed attention throughout Tali's dialogue concerning Quarian immune systems. Thanx, you saved me the time of having to point out that in actuality Quarians don;t have weak immune systems at all, but more or less hyperactive immune systems caused by the symbiosis with whatever that thingy on their home system was called.

Completely eliminating diseases causes more problems than it solves. There is such a thing as "too clean."

Well, for what it's worth, I enjoyed this thread, Zelnik. Those inaccuracies simply never occurred to me.

Here's one that I thought of:

In Arrival, Shepard watches a computer display of the resultant explosion from the Alpha Relay wipe out a star system. In the real world, light from the Sun takes 3 entire minutes to reach Mercury, which is the closest planet to the Sun. That the "supernova-like" wave of energy would wipe out a complete star system in barely 10 seconds is highly improbable. Shepard would likely have been sitting there watching that display for a long, long, long time...

Additionally, the colonists would have had plenty of time to evacuate at least partially from the planets in the star system.

Well I'm sure they are still many diseases flying around to make out immune system not weak.

I don't think I need malaria to stronger my immune system.

These are mostly focused on biology, since that is my feild of study, but some of these make me think the writers really did not even consider checking their sources.

1. Humanity has great genetic diversity.
This is not only false, but grossly false.  Of all of the primapes on the planet, we are the LEAST genetically diverse. We are more closely related to a member of the opposite gender on the other side of the planet, then a chimpanzee is related to it's sibling.  Humanity suffered a massive genetic bottleneck some 50,000 years ago (probably due to Mt. Toba exploding), and the results are extremely clear today. The huge amounts of cancers and genetic disorders found in humanity are the best example of this.

This only strengten the case humanity is the most dominant and diverse of all population on the planet earth .
Why cause we are resilient , even the black plague some of us were immune to it , while other species will just let the diseased one die out , we as humanity found a cure .
That weakness excist in genes and other things , doesn´t mean we are weak , it is mother nature rule .
To weed out the weakest , cause we as human show compassion and understanding we try to beat mother nature. and in most cases succeed , cancer I will not go into that discussion .
But remember every era had it disease or problems , till finally it become epidemical or bad for the society .
Then a cure was introduced .

2. A weak Immune system involves fevers, allergic reactions, etc.
This assumption is actually a bit backwards.  If an organism has a STRONG immune system (or hyperactive immune system), the above examples occur.  A WEAK immune system would have no reaction at all to a foreign pathogen, and the only sign of illness would probably be death, or necrosis.  All of the Quarian examples of "weak immune system" make any medical professional very confused (I know, I am one, and so is my father).  The described reactions show more of a hyperactive allergic response.

On the contrary , Human system is totally sometimes still not explainable by modern science , people who should have died , somehow miracly still live and get beter , while specialist says no cure treatment for it .
We don´t have to ask how or why , we can call it religion or karma .
While some people just die suddenly without any plausible explanations other then heart failure .
Again Science holds a lot of answers , but we still have religion and other superstitions .
Sure science is more and more advance in explaining illogical behaviour or folklore .
That is good , example the woman who holds world record , of holding her breath under water .

3 and 4 I didn´t even bother with replying , cause those field subjects are irrelevant .

5. You can walk outside in a vaccum with skin exposed.
This should be pretty damn obvious. If a shield breaks down due to radiation from a hot star, why isn't it breaking down from temperatures around 4 Kelvin?

This is part of science fiction , Well if shield can stop bullets , plasma and other stuff , why should it break down under temperatures of 4 kelvin ? since energy shields are not invented yet , or will be invented in possible future .
All we have is theories and speculations , like you are doing now , that fits into the catergorie science fiction .

6. Aliens look just like us.
Seriously.. must everything in science fiction have four limbs, two eyes, one nose, boobs, and...oooo blue skin.. :o

Again there were rachini , hamar ,krogan .  you think they look like us

Now enough making fun of people who try to make sense of science fiction , with mixing in wrong science .

Turian females don't have boobs.
Salarians lay eggs.
Krogans have 4 testicles and 2 hearts, their body is in very diffrent shape and can also re-gen.
Batarians have 4 eyes.

Don't get me started on Hanar's, Elcor's and Rachni's.

That reminds on arguement when smudboy said that radiation should have killed Shepard when he/she watched at stars after you end SM.

As for shepard watching the explosion after arrival... perhaps it was big enough of an esplosion to travel that fast? I think its just the displays way of using calculations to show the range of the explosion imo... probably just dramatic effect but these are 2 decent ideas

Justin, the explosion cannot travel faster than the speed of light :D But you're right, it's easy to explain as a simulation.

First of all, humans ARE nature. Everything from our steel towers to running naked in the tree's in 100 percent nature. I don't get why people think otherwise.

Also weakness in genes IS our weakness. Modern society proves that.

So modern medicine does more harm to humanity as a whole. I am going to sound horrible here, but bear with me.

Pretty much any genetic disorder you can think of can be blamed on modern medicine. Heart disease, retards (which I mean in the nicest manner of course) you get the picture. These are all nurtured, and progated because of modern times.

Are you born with a heart disease? Good thing you live in the modern age! Thanks to tech, and medicine, you will live a relatively normal life. However... Because medicine gives the illusion of health, you are able to do what most healthy humans do and breed. Now, your heart disease genetic code spreads to your children. Even if they themselves don't contract that heart problem, they carry the blueprints for it to appear anywhere down your line. Will their children have it? How about their childrens children? You get the point.

Congrats, thanks to the wonders of modern technology your genetic code becomes a poison for the rest of your line.

On the contrary , Human system is totally sometimes still not explainable by modern science , people who should have died , somehow miracly still live and get beter , while specialist says no cure treatment for it .

Where the hell did all that come from? Z was right in what he said. We might not understand everything yet, but we understand enough to something as simple as how a weak and strong immune system work. People dropping dead for undiscerned reasons have nothing to do with that. It might not have anything to do with your immune system. It could be genetic, it could be a cellular failure, or any other endless possibilities. That does NOT counteract what we already know.

This is part of science fiction , Well if shield can stop bullets , plasma and other stuff , why should it break down under temperatures of 4 kelvin ? since energy shields are not invented yet , or will be invented in possible future .

Continuous exposure is a different beast from short bursts. If an SMG can take down a shield from sustained fire, so will constant heat/pressure/force.

Again there were rachini , hamar ,krogan .  you think they look like us

Now enough making fun of people who try to make sense of science fiction , with mixing in wrong science .

Species with the basic body shape of a human. Asari, Batarian, Drell, vorcha, human, quarian.

Species with a humanoid shape: Asari, Turian, Batarian. Salarian, vorcha, krogan, human, quarian, yagh, volus.

Species with non humanoid shape. Hanar, Elcor, Rachni.

I'd say the lack of diversity is enough to warrent complaint. When you can't even tell an alien is non human because they wear a helmet, you have a problem. (Asari, Batarian, Drell) For every gem like Hanar and Elcor, you get a Drell, Asari, Quarian.

Somehow quarians weak immune system remids me of AIDS. Don't know why, maybe because of how they can get sick from virtually anything.

As for the human diversity, I don't understand why aliens are any less diverse, especially asari with their cross-species breeding. They would have all degenerated and died out without it. Mordin speaks a lot of gibberish pseudo-scientific medical stuff just to make us, human gamers look superior.

Gorrillas have 2 eyes, 1 nose, 4 limbs.

Dogs have 2 eyes, 1 nose and 4 limbs.

Cats have 2 eyes, 1 nose and 4 limbs.

Bears have 2 eyes, 1 nose and 4 limbs.

Just because something comes from another planet, why should it be drastically different? Should Aliens have 57 legs and 17 eyes? We have what is needed. What works.
