If not Oghren, who?

Some people did not like that the only party member to return in
Awakenings was Oghren - who in many ways seems to be a joke character.

If not Oghren, who should have returned in Awakening as a party member?

Are we talking ideal scenario? :P

A romantic partner, which would create a ton of replayablity. If the character ended up alone, then probably Oghren since he's the only one who can't die... Or dog! I didn't really mind Oghren that much, but I'd take the dog over him. Matter of personal preference, though :P

That's a pipe dream, though. Wouldn't be cost efficient at all :(.

I would've preferred whoever, if anyone, your character decided to go off with at the end of Origins (since it would make sense that they were still travelling with that person). If nobody, I suppose then it could default to Oghren.

Although honestly I would've rather had anyone than Oghren. Even the dog.

I liked Oghren in Origins, just not in Awakening. I would have preferred Alistair, however, by far, whether playing a male or female warden. He just makes everything a whole lot more fun. More things for the female warden, of course. ;)

Garrus Vakarian.

Oh, an Origins character? In that case, hmm. A toss up between Alistair and Zevran, really. Could I not have both? They're hilarious together.

(Or Wynne, for the sole reason of invoking the right of conscription on her and spending the entire rest of the game lecturing her on what it means to be a Grey Warden. Disappointing that this isn't an available option already, really)

Gorim, my loyal second! He returned to my side at the end of origins, why isn't he with me in awakening? Sadface :(

Someone has to go sell dwarven crafts, fine dwarven crafts, direct from Orzammar. Responsibilities you know.

Heh, Gorim's never leaving Orzammar again once he gets let back in. If you tell him you won't return to Orzammar, he just shrugs and says he hopes you come visit.

I would have liked Oghren coming back, had they not made such a joke of his character and dumbed him down so much. Oghren was one of my favorite characters in Origins, and I was actually pretty happy originally to hear he would be returning..until I saw what they did.

As far as companions...I would have rather have seen Alistair as a Warden in the keep, even if not a companion, if you didn't make him king, but executed Loghain. Would have also liked to see Zevran there, since romanced or as best buds, he wants to help rebuild the Wardens. Even if Alisrtair or zev weren't companions, it would have been awesome just to have them kicking back at the keep, taking care of biz and maybe handing out messages/quests.

I'd prefer them handing out massages myself but hey, beggars can't be choosers. B)

A number of characters make more 'sense' than Oghren, provided they stayed in Ferelden, were alive etc (not that death stopped Oghren or anything):

Alistair - Is a freakin' Grey Warden.
Zevran - Could end Origins training Grey Wardens, if not staying with the LI Warden.
Leliana - Could stay with the Warden.

General feeling is that Oghren was selected because the Mysterious Statistics Base determined he was the most beloved character, due to his Death By PC ratio being lower than any other character (except Morrigan of course, who you never get to kill and leaves after DAO anyway). Of course, the ONLY way to kill Oghren is get him to attack you at -100 approval. I don't think it's very easy to achieve this without exploiting the hell out his 'leave party' dialogue, so it's such a rare occurence that most people don't believe you CAN kill him.

I think they brought back Oghren because most people did Orzammar as their last pre-Landsmeet questline in Origins, so Oghren tended to be the last-recruited and thus least-utilized companion. His Awakenings appearance was to give him some more face-time, despite the fact that no one really demanded 'More Oghren!'

I completely loathe Oghren. He wasn't so bad in Origins, but he is unbearable in Awakenings.

I understand why they chose to bring him back though. Alistair is either dead, a drunk, or too busy being a king. Morrigan is long gone. Sten could have been left in the cage, killed, and if he survived and accompanied the Warden, he was always pretty clear on wanting to leave Ferelden once the blight is defeated. Zevran could have been killed. Wynn could have been killed during Circle Tower, and if you recruited her into your party, she tells you she doesn't have much time left. Plus, Wynne is too old and boring. So that pretty much leaves Oghren as the only viable companion.

I would have enjoyed having Zevran. In my epilogue, he expressed interest in remaining with the Wardens. So when I got to Vigil's Keep, he was nowhere to be seen.... yet Oghren was there? Eh...

Obviously Oghren has the best Agent becuase he was able to get him signed for both parts...
Seriously, though...I guess I'm in the Minority because I kind of liked Oghren...he was intentionally given an abrasive personality & did have some pretty funny lines.
I'm doing a second playthrough and am getting a lot of banter between him and Zev that I didn't get to hear the first time because of the way I put my Party together first playthrough.

It's tough to have an alternative to Oghren who wasn't killable in Origins.

I guess I would've been happier with bad girl Morrigan or den mother Wynne back on the team instead of putting up with mages Anders or Velanna. I found Velanna with her bile still preferable to snippety smart **** Anders.

Or what about Origins characters like Greagoir, Fergus, and Merrill (the real Merrill, not Tali-Lite).

Or maybe we could've imported Garrus V. with a registered ME copy. :alien:
