Nothing in DA2 really grabbed my hearing the way that DA:O did. Does anyone find any bit of DA2's soundtrack noteworthy?

Not a huge fan of it, though I have yet to listen to every song. There was one part of one that I liked, can't remember where it was in game though.

There are some cool songs. I really like the one that plays when you fight at the Hanged Man, shame it only pops up like 3 times throughout the game tops.

All in all I thought it was ok, not exactly amazing.

Honestly, from what I have listened to of the DA2 soundtrack so far I much preferred the Origins soundtrack.
Having said that, I have not listened to all the tracks yet.

Edit: I downloaded the soundtrack on my Mac (got it free with the SE) so I could listen to it while working and it's just finished.
There are some "nice" tracks, but nothing amazing. The Origins OST is definately more to my taste.

I really dig the old tymy tunes in the Hanged Man. Though I'm a Bluegrass fan.

The slow moment tunes that were recycled really got on my nerves.

DA2 soundtrack is very good but it is not used well in the game. If you listen to the soundtrack on its own, its much more "powerful" than in the game (for lack of a better word). It isn't recessed in the background and the bass/low mid isn't so attenuated to make room for spoken dialogue. There aren't alot of incidental noises turning it into mush and it can command your full attention

A proper original soundtrack should be treated as part of the game not and not as a standalone piece of work, but in DA2 the soundtrack is mostly relegated to filling silence and thats unfortunate.

Hanged Man fight music is my favourite too.

The Origins soundtrack is much more epic and emotional touching. The soundrack of DA2 belongs to those which you hear now and forget in a few weeks.

Personally, I found them both to be fairly lacklustre with only a few decent tracks. I guess I'm just not an Inon Zur fan? =/

I prefer the music in Dragon Age 2. The music from Origins is great and all, but I felt that the music in DA2 just was more to my taste and more emotional.

I preferred the score from DAO, to be honest.. I still get tingles and fuzzies every time I hear it even though DAO has lost much of it's shine in my eyes. The music though...fantastic.

I also liked the music in DAII a lot.

But will I get hurt if I say that as far as emotion goes, NOTHING grabs me like the music segments playing during the suicide mission in ME2?

Yup that one is just fantastic.

As to DAO/DA2, DAO music score all the way. It fits the fantasy setting perfectly.

The DA2 score just feels forgettable.

I barely notice any music in Bioware's games. I suppose it's due to my experience with playing Japanese games where the music is a lot louder and clearer that you can actually listen to it.

Bioware game music is so ambient you barely notice it. And they don't seem to have any dramatic pieces of music that you find in cutscenes from other games.

The OST of DA2 is much like the game itself: rushed, largely forgettable and all-around disappointing.I can't remember even ONE song from Dragon Age 2, yet whenever I listen to I am the One, I just feel a sense of epicnessImage IPB

Destiny of Love was my favorite of the soundtrack, but it doesn't compare to the Love Song in the first game.

DA2 for me, although I am very fond of the DA:O soundtrack as well. Actually, to my pleasant surprise, the tracks I loved the most in DA:O were used in DA2 - for example the magnificent eerie melody we hear at the Lake Calenhad Docks is used for the Wounded Coast.

It's a pity though that both released soundtrack do not include all of the epicness of the two games. The DA:O soundtrack for example does not include the ominous sort-of-orthodox-Christian chant we can sometimes hear in the Chantries in Thedas and the DA2 does not have the intense strings we hear when we select our party (or Hawke at the very beginning).

I think that the main difference is that the scope of the two games is reflected in their respective scores.

Origins was far more varied, though compositionally, i think DAII is superior. I'm an especially big fan of the whispy slide riff used in DAII's Love Theme.

I actually like the music in DA2 more than that of Origins, especially the combat music.
The DA2 music feels more alive to me, whereas the music in Origins felt like it was found in the basement and dusted off after being in a box for 2 decades.
It also sound like they've used a larger variety of instruments on the sound track for DA2, giving it a lot of unique flavours, like the song in the Hanged Man to mention but one.
Then there's also the sound effects and ambient sounds (I know we're not really discussing that here) that are also much better than Origins.

I have to admit, in Origins, I got sick of the music by my second playthrough. Felt very repetitive.
I'm on my third playthrough of DA2 and still very much enjoy the music.

[edit] I'll also add that Origins music sounded a bit too classical fantasy to me. This time around, it has more character and is more unique to Dragon Age.

I thought DAO's soundtrack was a lot better than DA2's.

After listening to every song on the downloadable soundtrack you get with SE, there was only 2 i liked from DA2, which was the main theme and Fenris song (and i didn't even like Fenris, and why is he the only companion that gets his own theme).

And they were only pretty good not truly great like some from Origins.

The Origins menu/start up music was good.
I liked what I generally think of as Anders theme in DA2.
There's a bit of the DA2 combat music which always makes me think of "Food, Glorious Food" from Oliver!, which is a bit strange.

I preferred the DA2 score overall. But that's not really putting down DAO since it included tracks from there as well.

But loved the music in the Hanged man and Isabela's theme. To name a few.

There are some problems with the music. It often triggers inappropriately, like in the middle of a dialogue, and as it is very 'bombastic' that is not good. I turned the music volume down low after the third time that happened.
The soundeffects contain such an idiotic amount of screaming I turned it down very low very fast before my neighbours called the cops.

Personally, I found DAO's score to be a boring, overbearing, Lord-of-the-Rings wannabe. All of the tracks felt like watered down versions of 'epic' movie scores, and the battle music was ridiculously loud and over the top. The love theme was ok, but even that was really kinda 'meh', as it sounded like every new-agey medieval love song. I remember that I kinda liked the weird creepy sounds of the Deep Roads (when you weren't getting attacked by stuff), but I can't remember if there was actually a score or if it was just silent with random sounds. Whatever it was, that was the only bit where I remember thinking, "Wow, this is kinda cool--like Silent Hill." And while I liked the credits song at the end of DAO, it just seemed kinda weird to have a 30 Sec to Mars song outta nowhere when the whole soundtrack was all "THIS IS MEDIEVAL, CAN'T YOU TELL?"

Conversely, while DA2's soundtrack wasn't amazing, it at least was trying to step away from the fake LotR vibe, which I appreciated. And I really loved Fenris' theme, to the point where I'm probably going to put it on my ipod playlist with some of the excellent music in JRPGs (though I'm personally kinda done with JRPGs, you have to admit that the music from most of them is exceptional). And there's also some little bits I kinda liked, like whatever Hawke's family theme is and one of the boss battle tracks (can't remember what one). But still, they have a looooong way to go before getting to a "good" soundtrack. The credits song was sooooo wonderful though.

But I think DA2's a step in the right direction, if for no other reason than the music at least seems more original (even if some of it's not very good), than Origins was. Hopefully if they give the composer more time for DA3 it'll at least be at the level of "not bad".

DA2;s music is good and to me DA: O soundtrack, is just epic but it is true that the origins one is closer to LOTR in a sense.
