I loved the intro music to ME1 best in that series, had a certain blade runner/deus ex feel about it.

I hated the Mass effect 2 theme but that's just me maybe it was just tainted by my view of the game itself which I didn't like.

I prefer DAO soundtrack to DA2 by quite a long way but I did like one song in DA2 which was the ending song Liar.

But at the end of the day, we all know that ME>DA soundtrack-wise.

Except that they are not in the same setting, though I prefer DA soundtrack compared to ME since I prefer the fantasy setting.

Personally, I much preferred the DA:O music. The DA2 soundtrack is a bit of a jumble and doesn't have the same unified feel. It also tries to convey edgy and awesome--problem is, edgy is extremely annoying on repetition. I had to turn the combat music off by the second act. The only time I found myself really enjoying it was the couple of occasions when the DA:O music came up unaltered, and that's not a good sign. Not of the DA2 music, anyway. It really says something that I still enjoy the DA:O music after so many playthroughs.

DA:O scores had alot more energy and fire in it so to speak. In DA2 most of the themes are pretty subtle and not quite outstanding. Wounded Coast theme is even a re-used one from Lake Calenhad tavern in DA:O.

I found the score quite enjoyable for both, with a slight edge for the original.

What I find amusing, is the music used to market the two. The music used to market DA2 (trailers specifically) fits more with DAO. The Marilyn Manson tune "This is the New S***" is a much better fit for DA2. Read into that what you will.

Dragon Age 2 wins out. The exceptional tracks were that much more exceptional. Hawke Family Theme, Fenris' Theme, the songs from the credits were all amazing. I know people complain about the Calenhad Docks theme being reused, but I was glad; that was probably my favourite track from the first game. It was nice to hear it used in an area I spent more than two minutes in. Whilst actually questing. Instead of calling a boatman a racist.

The one bit of soundtrack I found noteworthy in DA2 was this one track that starts in some battles with a strong violin presence.  I want to say it had a sort of 19th C feel... perhaps I'm crazy though :alien:

Fenris' theme is probably the best track in the entire game.

Origins soundtrack was probably slightly better, even if only for small sections of the music played at Ostagar.

Some of it was great. Loved the Hawke's family theme. But Inon Zur had the cojones to tell EA off.

I think both soundtracks were great and really fit the respective games, but I'll have to choose DA2's.

DA:O's reminded too much of the works of more mainstream composers such as Hans Zimmer and Howard Shore. It seems that in DA2 Inon Zur adopted a more original voice, and I guess this is reflected in one of his interviews. He talked about emulating the sound of a string quartet within the orquestra to give a more personal touch to the music.

This is the link, for those of you interested:

I'm still waiting for the a soundtrack that tops my favourite so far, but DA2's had its highlights. The various Qunari themes stood out, especially the part that plays whilst chatting with Ketojan.

I can't say much of the Origins music came off as especially memorable, with a couple of notable exceptions. Not that any of it was bad, mind.

I liked the soundtrack of DA2 better, there were really some great songs in it. It's a pity that the songs don't have much prevalence in-game, I mean why have these fantastic tracks ("Rogue Heart", "Destiny of Love", "Mage Pride" etc.) if you're not going to hear them in the game.

While there were certain tracks in the DA2 soundtrack that I really enjoyed (Rogue Heart, Tavern Music, Qunari Rising) at the end of the day DA:O just has the more powerful and epic feeling tracks.

Everything from the Main Theme on the title screen, the camp music, Ferelden at War, I am the One, This is War, In Uthenera..... all of it conveyed deep emotions and an epic feel to go alongside a epic quest in a more epic game.

On its own, I guess it's a decent score. As the soundtrack of the sequel to DAO though, it's rather poor.
I did like the more "toned down" feel of the main theme though.

Seriously!?!?!? DA2's soundtrack was a billion times better than DA:O's.

Leliana's song was epic in DA:O, but thats the only thing on the soundtrack I could listen too, everything else stood out as much as a bee in a bee hive.

DA2's soundtrack is one of the few parts of the sequel I think totally dominated Origins.

The music is not the best I've heard from Iron Zur, but it was memorable enough that sometimes the tracks would play in my head when I'm not playing the game.  I haven't played the game for a few weeks now, and I still remember the music.

The score in DA:O fitted my taste buds more, but these are not bad at all.

DA2's music is better, hands down. Even the corny vocal songs in whatever fantasy language are waaaaaay better - like Destiny of Love

Kinda hard to comapre, considering half the tracks from Origins are in DA2, so............................

But yeah, I really dig the acoustic string music in DA2.

Haha yeah. I scratched my head with all the "DA2's is a billion times better!" kinda replies.

Imho, The dragon age origins title(menu) I am the one, and Leliana's song from origins outclass the non-dao tracks on the da2 OST. A lot of the in game music was done better, had more emotion.

Not bad, just not as good as Inon Zur could of done if the game wasn't rushed.

If comparing to Origins I gotta say that for the most part I actually preferred DA2 for the soundtrack. There were only a few that I actually liked in Origins, and I think there are some really catchy ones in DA2, especially for boss fights and the new "bar fight" theme.

edit: Yeah I noticed them reusing a lot of Origins tunes. I didn't mind it. At least I got to hear the tune that played at the docks before the Circle in Ferelden actually play out in-game this time since you spend a lot of time at the wounded coast...as opposed to 5 seconds at the docks in Origins.

Well I won't argue with that but it's an iffy comparison.

Yes, and it clearly shows in not having voiced tracks in DA2, because those always take more effort and time then whipping out the casio keyboard. Still, he and the BW team did a damned good job considering they broke a world speed record.

I'd give the DAO soundtrack a slight edge, but neither soundtrack was really outstanding (a few standout pieces, though I wasn't in awe of either album as a whole).

In DAO, my personal favorites were the Love Song, Leliana's Song, The Betrayal, I Am the One, Human Nobility, and Dwarven Nobility (which wasn't in the soundtrack).

In DA2, there were even fewer truly oustanding tracks. Only memorable ones were Rogue Heart, Hawke Family Theme, and Kirkwall Town Act 2 Exploration. Again, ambient music and vocal tracks win the day.

The battle-themed music in both soundtracks were mediorce. Only the ambient tracks really standout, I notice.
