How does DA2's music compare to DA:O's?

I loved both soundtracks, however... There's really only one song out of both that is burned in my brain forever, and that is DA:O's intro theme.

I have hit the DA:O .exe, had the launcher pop up, and then just sat there listening to and getting lost in that song for some time, before I actually load the game.

I don't know exactly what it is about it that calls to me, but it does, and it elevates me and really gets me ready to take the part of my character, whatever character it may be.

So, for me, I'd have to say DA:O... but that is in no way, shape, or form disparaging against DA2. I love both. There just happens to be one particular DA:O song that rings all my bells just right.

I loved the music in DA:O and several of the themes are incredible. That being said, I'm not nearly as initiated with RPGs and general fantasy stuff compared to most of you, so a lot of it may have seemed novel to me while it seemed generic to you.

DA2's music was mediocre on all counts. Only a couple of decent pieces, and a slew of unmemorable ones.

I personally loved the crap out of the Tavern Theme and Mage Pride.

DA2 doesn't sound as inspiring as compared to DAO. Though DAO was more grand and epic I think it's still not as immersive as the precious classics such as Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights or Baldur's Gate. I miss that feeling of mystery and awe when walking through a forest or the busy atmosphere when walking through a crowded city.

Many pieces in DA2 were centred around a similar theme, and in time it feels repetitive. There were a few good pieces in the DA2 soundtrack I bought but I don't hear enough of them in the game itself.

I prefer the music from DA2. Each time I hear it change while I play, it seems fitting. I love, love, love Fenris' theme.

I had forgotten what the music was like in DAO until a few weeks back, when I picked it up and played through it again (I was waiting for the patch). All I know is that I got really sick of the camp music after a time. It just seemed to be used WAY too much. Or maybe I just spent too much time at camp romancing Alistair. ;)

DA2 is better. I like the menu theme, the launcher theme, the credits and the Wounded Coast (I understand this was used in Origins but it was placed badly). Overall though, most of the tracks didn't stand out for me in either game. ME on the other hand is fantastic when it comes to music, I can remember pretty much every single score.

I quite liked the stormy, understated main menu music, and (big Florence + The Machine fan) "I'm Not Calling You A Liar" on the end credits, but, for original score and pure epicness, DA:O beats it easily. Nothing else really caught my attention.

This beats any song in either DA game:

Overall, I liked DAO's score better.  For DA2, I liked the theme for Hawke's family, the opening of Rogue Heart as used in Marethari's visit to the alienage, the Qunari combat music, Fenris's theme and the tavern music.

Personally I found DAO's mediocre on almost all counts (except a few stand-out tracks). DA2's I found a bit better. But still not particularly great. I found the battle music more interesting overall this time, and the qunari had good associated music. Deep roads/darkspawn as well (like these not found on the soundtrack, annoyingly). Fenris as well, though I think maybe the soundtrack focused too much on his sorry lyrium tatted ***.

Pretty mediocre with a couple good songs, both DA and DA2.

Overall doesn't compare against ME1 or ME2. Even ME2's DLCs were better than the majority of DAO/DA2's music

Seriously!?!?!? DA2's soundtrack was a billion times better than DA:O's.

Leliana's song was epic in DA:O, but thats the only thing on the soundtrack I could listen too, everything else stood out as much as a bee in a bee hive.

DA2's soundtrack is one of the few parts of the sequel I think totally dominated Origins.

Funny, Inon Zur didn't think so...he felt he was rushed if I recall. I still think it's good. Not as good as DAO's but I think Mr. Zur didn't get the time he needed. Like so much of the game itself, I keep playing "if only," in my head.

If DA:O is what Inon does when he isn't rushed, he should be rushed more often.

Loved DA2's soundtrack compared to DA:O, more songs stand out for me.

As with most good soundtracks I enjoy, the music does not dominate the game; it enhances. I enjoyed both very much.

However, as I crank the game to start, I prefer the opening music from DAO to the sighing oboe (?) of DA2. And I thank the composer for omitting the sometimes jarring tanbourine tavern tunes heard in other games from the Hanged Man.

Neither's game's music impressed me all that much.

The only music that I really liked in DAO:

1. Campfire theme

2. That elven song that leliana sings(When I pick up the PC version of the game next week, I'll definately be getting     a  mod to make her sing it whenever.)

3.  The This Is War song during the end credits.(yeah, yeah, flame away:D, I liked it)

None of the DA2 music really stuck with me.

Nothing comes close to Leliana's lament over the plight of the elves in the Origins. But overall I like Inon Zur. Great job on both games. It's beautifully haunting.

EDIT: I should also add that Dragon Age made me like two 30 Seconds to Mars songs.  That is a feat.  And Florence + the Machine was a great pick for the tone of the second game.  "I"m Not Calling You a Liar" pretty much sums up all the emotional betrayals and character interaction of DA 2.

I really dug the music in Leliana's dlc too.  But I only played it once several months ago and it has since faded
from my mind.  (Good dlc, just not very replayable, imo).

Personaly I find DA:O soundtrack generic and boring. But there was one song that is really good (and I mean REALLY GOOD!), it's the camp music. Unfortunatly they only give us about 44 seconds of it on the soundtrack. DA2's main menu theme is good. I am not a fan of Inon Zur in general but I can understand that some people love DA:O's score.;)

Well there seems to be areas that were great and areas that were not. Inon Zur's Hawke theme was just breath taking. But then there were others that felt rushed.

As Elhanan said they do enhance both their games I think.

And like Nedpepper I too fell in love with two 30 Seconds From Mars songs because of DAO! I am glad I am in very good company! *waves at Ned*

A problem with many WRPGs. You don't really notice them the same way you do with JRPGs. JRPG soundtracks are so damn well composed(Nobuo Uematsu is a God!)

Er, what does that have to do with anything?  I've played Oblivion and The Witcher.
