Read the review here.
Perhaps this is why such a large part of the community is so unhappy? Change is never pleasant...however, DA2 is indeed very pleasant!

It would be pleasant if they bothered to make a full game not half a game with recycled maps, no real decisions, pointless side quests, huge plot holes and really really bad companions.

You know, I remember this being said about NWN and its sequels, DAO, ME, The Witcher and now DAII....and yet....given all these amazing titles, I have never loved the RPG genre more.

Im sure the indie scene will find some way to work around having a low budget to play with and make good crpgs.

Yeah, one could call DAO that.....

Wait, you meant DAII?

Yes, one could call DAII that too.

I kind of missed the part in DA2 where the reviewer says that Hawke saves the world...

Where the heck does that even happen?

Purists might argue those are not proper RPG's anyway so they do not matter. Then again purists have thick books with rules and tables and dice Posted Image

I dont feel it matters what you call a game as long as its fun and absorbing. I'll happily play Guild Wars one week and Civ the next.

Indeed, Hawke CHANGES the world. The reviewer did get that slightly wrong. He should be banished!

Those games had a reasonable deadline.

I pretty much agree with everything.Well, except for the streamlining being a good thing, that only worked for Mass Effect.

No, he sits idly by and watches the world change. Just because he was present and the other catalysts for the entire mage templar ordeal are dead does not make him some kind of world changing champion. He is just a tool good at fighting that happened to fight the right guys at the right moments.

:P  In any event, it's a good read. We'll see what the future of RPGs has in store for us.

Maybe once SW: TOR is finished and James Ohlen (lead designer of BG2, KOTOR, NWN) is free to take over new projects, things will get a bit better for classic rpg lovers.

We can but hope.

What do you mean change is never pleasant ? Some change is, some is not. Change for the sake of change is misguided and will invariably fail.

Even if you like the changes , DA2 is still a substandard game.Dragged up only by higher than average production values.

I'm very interested to see Obsidians take on Dungeon Siege III. For a hack and slash it's got some some solid story and RP elements.
