I used to be able to play Mass Effect 2 fine. A little while ago, I started it up and it wouldn't load any of my save games without freezing. I finally got it to load, only to find that when I got onto the normandy the game froze again. The same happens if I try to load any save games where my character is on the normandy. The freeze happens on the loading screens, with a message of "Mass Effect 2 has stopped working..." etc, the generic windows 7 error message.

Only thing of note that I can remember happening between when it worked and now is that I changed from a dual core to a quad core. I tried all the stuff I could find; setting affinity, priority, turning off UAC, running as admin, etc.

I'm on Windows 7 (x64) with:
Processor - Intel Q8200
Video Card - Nvidia 460GTX
Mobo - Asus P5n73-am

Any help is appcreciated. Ask if you need any more info.

Have you also tried starting a new game, and does it happen then?

What patch version are you using?
