Sansa's kind of dippy, so I don't think Joffrey had to look good for her to fall in love with him. She's in love with the idea of him as a prince and herself as queen.naughty99 wrote...
Yes Joffrey certainly looked very creepy, which was a slight plus in a way for me because I like some mystery and creepiness in my HBO series.
In the novels however, he is supposed to be very handsome in a way that made Sansa blind to his defects of character. He didn't appear onscreen very long, but he certainly didn't look handsome, which made for an awkward reaction when Sansa praised his good looks.

I actually read today that GRRM is hoping they will make book 3 into 2 seasons and possibly book 4 as well. He was saying that if they do that he can catch up with them and get all 7 books out. Well... that's a lot of if's.TJPags wrote...
That's what I've heard. And on my last read of Game of Thrones, I broke it up into episodes, and wound up with 11. So it's doable (I believe there are to be 10 episodes this season).
So, assuming it gets picked up, we have 5 seasons coming to us (assuming Dance with Dragons is actually published sometime in the next 3 years). Seven if he actually completes the series.
Why does this not surprise me?
Now, I understand about perhaps breaking the books up over additional seasons - some of them are quite long. That, or more episodes per season.
But - last I had heard, Dance with Dragons (Book 5) was "almost done" and had a July (?) publication date. Assuming that's correct, and if each book is 1 season, he has 4 years before Book 5's season is over. So that's 4 years to write Book 6, and an additional year to write book 7. So, 5 years for 2 books.
For most professional authors, that's not a big deal. For him, it's panic time.
It was my major concern and major hope when I heard about the HBO series - concern that he wouldn't get the books done in time for additional seasons, and hope that with HBO pushing him (since it seems his publisher doesn't care) he might have incentive to finish.
Seems nothing ever changes in GRRM-land.
Edit - I fully and completely understand that GRRM is not my b!tch.

Re incest: It's a theme, but it's never presented just for titillation (I love that word) and the consequences are clearly to be seen, both social for Jaime and Cersei, and physical for the Targaryens who basically went crackers from inbreeding. If people can't handle it being presented at all, I guess they'll have to move on.

HBO has a bad habit of axing their A material all too quickly. Rome and specially Deadwood got killed way before it was their time to go. Suppose it is very difficult to keep an expensive series profitable, no matter how well critics and audience love it.
I wonder just how badly the inability to do any proper product placement hurts a series like GoT. In Sci-fi or fantasy you can't have Ed Stark beheading people with Apple's iSword and having some wench bring him a Subway sammich later on. This alone must make it extremely difficult to keep a series profitable. Been watching dangerous amounts of Sopranos lately and Holy ****. The sheer amount of product placing going on is just..baffling. Coca-Cola© Everywhere. All the time. Seriously, there aren't many scenes where somebody isn't enjoying a refreshing, satisfying drink of that delicious cold nectar of gods! Perfectly positioned can of Coca-Cola© has more screen time than that Milf shrink. Seriously. Drink Coca-Cola© It is good for you. Buying such over the top quantities of exposure from a series like Sopranos must have an..astronomical price tag.

The season 3 finale for Deadwood was awful though. All that build up for nothing to happen.
Well yas. In middle of filming 3rd season they learned series will either get axe entirely or, in best case scenario which never happened, end in form of few straight- to- dvd movies. This lead to a situation where nobody had any clue about whatkind of a season finale they should cake up. Thusly, one of the best things ever to enter in anyone's tv ended in teribad clusterfuk:l Later on, more or less same happened with Rome. From the get go, the story arch was planned with 3 seasons in mind. HBO doesn't treat their A-material with silk gloves.
Regarding the GoT pilot,
My god the casting is amazing here. More or less everybody except Jon Snow looks and feels right. Well, Tyrion should be uglier. Based on pilot the actor does so amazing job in capturing the Imp that maybe it is possible to forgive his lack of uglyness:l

Reading the books, I never got the impression that Tyrion was ugly. Aside from his mismatched eyes, I always thought that people in the book thought him hideous was the fact that he was a dwarf.
Funnily enough, I liked Kitt Harrington as Jon Snow. I was more bothered by the actor playing Robb. I'll wait for future episodes, though, to see if he can get the character before I decide. It was always my opinion that Tyrion, himself, thought he was ugly. The only family member who ever treated him with kindness was Jaime, so I think that his family's treatment towards him affected his self-opinion. I don't think mirrors are particularly plentiful in Westeros, so I always thought the description of Tyrion as ugly was more in how he saw himself. Peter Dinklage was spot on in his characterization.
All in all, I thought HBO did a good job portraying the feel of the world. The bleakness and cruelty of the society and area were definitely set. I can only hope it keeps going.

Heh. When your father is Tywin Lannister, it's easy to lose any self ersteem. I'm looking forward to how Charles Dance plays him and his byplay with Dinklage.Catspaw wrote...

And just imagine people's (i.e. those who have not read the books) reaction when things become even more bleak and cruel! I can see some people smashing their TV's when the Red Wedding is shown in all it's glory!Catspaw wrote...

Prologue: Already praised and complained about it.
Title sequence: The sigil hiccup (three or four are wrong) is facepalm-inducing, but easily (and hopefully quickly) fixed. The Painted Table doesn’t have clockwork, does it? Otherwise this would be an amazing rendition. Love the moving map either way. The rings (other than their cool bas reliefs) did feel kind of out of place, though.
Awfully missed scene: Bran/Tommen sparring and its reactions, but Joffrey’s gonna be established as a capital arse soon enough in episode 2, so losing it isn’t that bad.
Wedding Feast: While probably both realistic and close to AGoT, the specific renditions of booty-dancing and feral mounting did feel pretty silly until the start of the fight. The mixed ethnicities were kind of jarring, but actually not unrealistic.
Wedding Night: Not including Dany’s yes to Drogo’s no is a major mistake, IMO.
The Things I Do for Love: Perfect. (After thinking about it, the height/ground may not be the best details to not having paid enough attention to, but otherwise:) Plain perfect!
And the rest of the episode and all the acting was just allaround amazing! Wubbit.
And one more thing:
A big yay to shamelessly fanservicey beefcake scene! XD Yummy guys indeed.
Anyway, regarding computer games:
French studio Cyanide is working on an RTS (Genesis) and an RPG (untitled) - with heavy imput from GRRM and the webmasters of Westeros.org.
The RTS is set during the history of Westeros - information is scarce, but I think it has a campaign mode following Nymeria's Immigration, Aegon's Conquest and Robert's Rebellion, a Total War-esque sandbox mode in which you can play any of the major houses and a multiplayer mode. (The thing that confuses me most is that it sounds like you play on regional maps despite using grand strategy mechanics best suited for a map of all of Westeros south of the Wall.)
The RPG is set during the first book (AGoT) with you switching between the POV of a warg Brother of the Night's Watch (sounds mediocre and hard to fit into the established plot) and the POV of a recently returned long gone heir of a lesser noble family who has become a Red Priest of R'hllor in the meantime (sounds both amazing and easy to fit in).

Actually, I'm going to take a wild guess and say that the producers are going to make the fourth book and the fifth book all into one season, assuming GRRM finishes the sixth book in time and then the seventh book soon afterwards. I don't know why I'm even considering this possibility but lately, I've been feeling pretty optimistic about the series.

I forget, is it ever explained in the books how people/animals/plants actually survive decades-long winters? Wouldn't everything simply die, or do people have massive amounts of food stocked somewhere?
Never. You just have to stick with the "It's the magic, stupid!" explanation. Georgie-boy likely doesn't care about how animals adapt to that particular environment so he probably won't bother to explain how they survive.

I thought all the kids were spot on. Someone upthread was complaining about them not having Tully red hair, but they really do- I checked the book and it describes it as "brown-red hair". I also don't know why people don't see Kit Harington as fitting Jon's part. He matches exactly to how I had pictured Jon, right down to the soulful eyes. He is described as slender and dark, so maybe his skin tone would be darker. Robb is described as being of stockier build than Jon, so it all fits pretty well as far as I can see.Catspaw wrote...

Probably because we already have artwork that shows Jon with long, straight hair. Also, in the show, Jon and Robb are about the same build. But I could care less about this stuff. And it seems the people back at the ASOIAF forums could care less either.
