What's with the complaints of too much graphic sex. There was just 1 sex scene. You also didn't see any nudity in the sex scene. There was also some nudity and dry humping but not that much.

I noted those scenes in my blog, and wasn’t complaining so much as just making an observation. The series obviously wants to set the tone, and this is the easiest way to do it. I was just amazed at how so many characters are immediately defined by their sexual encounters and how they react to them. One of my footnotes – “Viserys establishes himself as an **** by fondling his meek blonde sister, Khal Drago is portrayed as a noble savage through his gentle lovemaking, and Tyrion the dwarf is a jovial pimp daddy who gets more action than a vibrating shower nozzle in a all-girls college.”

There's artwork showing Jon???? How did I miss that?!?!? I had always just imagined from the book descriptions and personal preferences.

Almost done with 2nd book (again) up to Catelyn's little tait-a-tait with Jaime. Jon's just met some wildings and Theon's having some very bad dreams.....

Love this story!

There's quite a bit of fan art of Jon and Ghost at dA.  Some nice Daenerys, Sansa, Brienne etc. as well.  And Rhaegar, rawr!  I'll put in some links.

Also:  Morbid?  Talk of the numerous ways the author could die is... weird.  He also has a right to do with his notes whatever he likes.  Not everyone is happy with what Tolkien Jr. did with his father's work, though I'm not complaining, for the Silmarillion especially.

Jon and Ghost
My favorite Daenerys
Sansa
Margaery Tyrell- oh man, I hope they get far enough to film Granny Tyrell
Brienne of Tarth- lot of fan speculation about who'll play her
Arianne Martell
Rhaegar and Lyanna- speculations on if they are the parents of Lord Snow?

*Ok, I think all links are fixed now.  Ugh, doesn't help I'm on a slow comp that hates dA.

... everything but Tyrion's romp is pretty much as it is in the books.  And they didn't establish Drogo first by the scene with Daenerys- he had several other scenes before that one.  With Viserys, pretty much the first thing you read about is his nipple-twisting.  Guess I don't understand your complaint.  The books have sex in them.

The first episode was just... wow, absolutely perfect. I was incredibly hyped, and yet it still managed to surpass my expectations.
Can't wait for next week!
I have nothing but praise for the show itself, but I'd like to point out a small thing - the title sequence. It's immensely beautiful. Seeing the Westeros/the world come to life bit by bit with that music playing in the background... I swear, it made me tear up a bit.

@ Addai - thanks for the links! I never thought to go look over at DevA. Some of those are pretty close to what I had imagined. Except Brienne. None of the suggestions I've seen over at ASOIAF come close to what I had in my mind.

The Jon art is the best, but I'm ok with Kitt.

That's pretty much how it is in Martin's series. He uses sex scenes to establish the characters. Other times, he just does it for fun(Arrianne comes to mind).

I watched it again last night and yes, Tyrion's accent becomes a bit odd at times but I forgive him because Dinklage brings something special to the role.

And the actor playing Jaime Lannister has a problem with persistent Scandi/Germanic line readings.

Michelle Fairley really grew on me as Catelyn. Lena Headey's performance as Cersei was very nuanced and engaging. She has completely reinvented herself for this role.

The child actor playing Bran was amazing, I'm sure he will go on to do great things. (Hopefully not end up like certain other child stars.)

Don't care. I was too busy drooling. He's pretty much spot on how I imagined Jaime to look. I can live with some Danish slipping in.

I had pictured Jaime as having lighter blonde hair, but I can rework my assumptions neatly in this case.  I think it's adorable that in his interviews he's all shy about the sex scenes.

For Jaime purposes alone, HBO has to run this several seasons.  They must.

Did Hodor have a beard? I always imagined that he was more clean-faced and actually younger. Is there an in-book description of Hodor?

Yeah, that guy does not look anything like my concept of Hodor.

Gendry looks a lot older, too. Irri and Doreah are smokin' hot, though.

HODOR!

Yeah, and I always thought Irri and Doreah were in their mid-forties or something. Though Wilko Johnson fits my mental image of Ser Ilyn Payne from the books precisely. It makes me wonder how the Season 2 characters will be portrayed(physically).

Irri and Doreah in their forties? Where'd you get that idea from?

IIRC Irri and Jiqui were around the same age as Daenerys, and Doreah was a bit older. That other one, whose name I can't recall (the witch) is the only one that's probably in her 40s/50s.

I'm curious as to how they'll handle the Renly/Loras relationship. It was very subtle in the books (I wasn't even sure they were actually a thing until I read GRRM had confirmed it), but it's gonna be more explicit in the show supposedly.

I wouldn't be surprised if they made it more obvious to the audience their targeting.

I seem to recall either Irri or Doreah (one of them) was regularly "servicing" Dannaerys in her quarters on the boat.

Not very motherly IMHO.

It was Irri, and that only happened once actually. But yeah, most definitely not motherly.

Well there were so many bare breasts in the first episode alone, they have to throw the female/gay fans a bone too.

Now I'm wondering how I came to think of them as "motherly".

Also, good news, everyone!

We have more details on the next season.

It will have the same amount of episodes as Season 1. Producers are already looking for locations to film. And GRRM is going to pen one of the episodes taking place during the Battle of Blackwater. Also, the season is coming either "immediately before" or "immediately after" Season 1 starts. So it's coming April 2012.

Holy picspam. Those aren't future casting decisions, though- they'll all be in season one.

Doreah was a bedservant, intended to teach Dany the ropes, but only "serviced" her once or twice after... uh, stuff happened (actually that may have been Irri...). Doreah was 16 years old at series start.

Correct, the actors above have all already been confirmed and announced to appear in future Season 1 episodes. If I understand correctly, all of the episodes from Season 1 have already been shot.

In a couple cases, it seems that they are introducing storylines from Clash of Kings during this season (Hot Pie). It will be interesting to see the choices and areas where the show diverges from the novels.

I have to say Gemma Jackson (the production designer) is simply phenomenal! Hard to believe she earned her chops with "Squanto: A Warrior's Tale"
