I read it.

How is it mediocre? For sure they can't follow the book precisely, not when the book itself is an extremily romanticized version of events to begin with that is best used as a source of inspiration and framework not a script. But as a show, based on a pretty complicated setting, it's good.

It is mediocre from a technical standpoint. The cinematography and editing. When and how they use music and so forth.

Man, if they had Zhang Yimou directing it and Chen Daoming as Cao Cao it would have been pretty bamf. I still like it though.

PS: China's Three Kigndoms 2010 pwns GoT as a show.
I got so addicted to it that I haven't even watched season 2 finale and I am not that interested to.

There's a television series based on Romance of the Three Kingdoms?

God damn, how did I not know this!?

Thanks for introducing me to three kingdoms.. I'm on episode 8. Sun Jian's kid is my favorite character. A little political genius, that one.

Maybe we should have our own thread or something.

^We should.

After only watching a couple of episodes, I got hooked instantly. Good script, directing, artistry and production quality. I may enjoy this series very much.

And I'm liking Cao Cao more and more after every episode.

I wonder if we should have it here or over the Witcher forums.

You of course! But do you want it to be about just the tv series, or possibly all media related to that specific time-period?

Were you aware that there are no Seven Kingdoms, just a bunch of people Ser Barristan allows to live?

No. Ser Barrisan is a bloody fool.

There are only a bunch of people Victarion Greyjoy allows to live.

Who wins in a fight? Barristan or Victarion?

Barristan, but he will die from his wounds in that fight.

I missed this, but apparently Shireen has been cast- a little starlet named Kerry Ingram.  She has brittle bone disease, so can likely relate to Shireen's frailty, though judging by her stage work she's also a little firecracker.  Looks like a good call to me.

It hasn't been confirmed yet, but also speculation that Stannis' wife Selyse has been cast as well- an actress named Tara Fitzgerald.

And Charlotte Hope has been cast as someone named "Myranda."  Westeros.org thinks this is likely Meera Reed.  I seriously hope that name change is just to disguise her casting.

The actress they might cast for Selyse is cuter than Carice van Houten by half. I can't help find that role reversal humorous considering how Selyse was described in the novels. ;p

Holy smokes! Just saw this on WiC (the link is probably NSFW since its got the other prosethetics like
Mel's shadow baby pregnant belly and boobs and Jory with the knife in his eye from
season 1)-  the White Walker at the end of season 2 wasn't CG at all but was all practical effects! The amount of detail they have on there is pretty awesome.

I hope they don't change more names. What possible purpose would changing Meera Reed's name to "Myranda" possibly serve? That's just stupid and silly.

Well, I'm guessing Selyse will only be "TV ugly" but you never know what they might do with makeup too. At minimum, I think Mel already said Selyse was sickly or something.

Those props are excellent. I'm impressed they went that extra mile.

And yes, they will probably blotch her up or some such with makeup. But in terms face structure I find the potential Selyse more attractive. :P
