I'm not saying anything till I see how good Season 3 is up to that point.

Now they're just making senseless changes. Whatever.

Yup.

They've pretty much killed most of the interest I had in the show. At best I might end up watching the GRRM episode and TWR but that's it.

Come on, they didn't change that much. I just wish they'd scrap Ros and give Aria and Sansa the screen time their arcs deserve. Ser Dontos didn't matter at all in Season 2, and he was kinda important in A Clash of Kings.

Would have preferred Chataya and Alayaya to Ros. We need some more diversity around. Plus, their whole culture is interesting.

I have to disagree. I don't find ****s all that interesting personally, and there is Shae already.

Apparently the guy who played Greatjon Umber isn't returning for season 3. What the hell! He's both an awesome character and important to somewhat important to the plot.

Unless they recast him...

Has it been said if he's writing an episode for Season 3?

Yes. He is going to write episode seven. It is called Autumn Storms.

Well, I guess we know what episode the wedding will be in.

Seems a bit early for it, as it felt like it took place a bit after the midway point of the book. Seems like it'd be a good place to end the season, honestly. Cut to black at the end of the tenth episode right where the chapter ends in the book. Relative to the important things that happen after it, Joffrey's wedding feels more like a seventh episode than Edmure's.

He wasn't in Season 2 either when he likely should have been.

I'm pretty sure GRRM is not writing the episode of the RW. I think most accounts are that the RW will be episode 9. Which makes sense considering how the past 2 seasons have had their Big moments happen in episode 9 and then the aftermath for the season finale. I'm guessing they keep Joffrey's wedding for season 4, since it does happen after the RW in the books.

They changed a lot, not just minor points but major character arc changes and ones that make no sense whatsoever.  I'm thinking here of Jaime's escape and Tywin's transformation into kindly grandpa.

This year, they're advertising that season 3 is going to be more action and "less talking."  Great.

I guess we're still keeping HBO for now, but I've lost a lot of interest in the series.

Why is making changes from the source material always automatically a bad thing?

Changes, even unnecessary ones, are not always automatically a bad thing, but the producers have proven that in aiming for the lowest common denominator they aren't capable of good changes (it's meh highlights in a sea of crap) and that contrary to their earlier statements they are excessively change-happy. That's a combination bound for disaster. Bad changes are a bad thing. And season 2 is stuffed to the brim with those.

It's hard for me to be objective, but even within the framework of the show, the character arcs are not making sense and I predict are only going to get sloppier as they try to reconcile their version to future events. Let's be honest here- Benioff and Weiss never did a TV show before this one. They were doing pretty well when they stuck to the material. When they started going off the GRRM reservation, they got in trouble IMO. I have low expectations for season 3.

Hmm, I think I understand what you two mean. I just notice that anymore when a show, movie, game, song, etc. deviates from the source material in any way, it's automatically viewed as a bad thing no matter what by a lot of people.

Yeah, take Jon's storyline in season 2 compared to the books. They changed things up in terms of character development for not very clear reasons. I mean, he ends up in the same situation and all as the books, but the way they got from Point A to Point B was just so much less exciting or even just logical than the book. And I can't imagine something like that even being a budget issue or anything, just a choice with what to focus on with the adaptation.

I'll sort of give them the benefit of the doubt if they can bring in certain characters that should have already appeared in a way that works better for TV but I'm pretty much going to be watching for one moment in season 3 to see how they manage that.

Sure there's the purists, but more often then not these changes ARE bad and the story losses substance and/or quality. It happened for the LOTR movies as compared to the books and it also happened with GoT. Not all changes were bad ( Like Khal Drogo being a badass in his last fight ), but most were.

I think Lady Melisandre says this line in the books, but the voice is certainly not Carice Van Houten's. I think it is Quaithe's voice.

Season 3 In Production Video

Lots of looks at the new characters for season 3 there. Mance, Beric, the Reeds, Edmure, scarred Tyrion, the Queen of Thorns, the Unsullied, the Boltons! Good stuff!

Wish I could be excited. The most I can say is that I'm curious and kind of skeptical they'll do it any justice.
