Horrible choice for credit song. Absolutely horrible, imagine if that played after Ned Stark's execution? Ridiculous.

I can see what you mean, but the contrast is also brilliant. The scene and the music are both similar and dissimilar at the same time, creating a rather chaotic vibe which fits perfectly with the suddenness of the scene.

I didn't think it did at all. Like it was mentionned before, it was too fast paced. We go from Jaime seemingly convincing the guy, to having a dagger in his eye, to suddenly getting his hand cut off, and before our brain can register what happened, bam stupid music pops up.

It's quite horrible, and as someone who read the books and so knows what happens, my brain didn't register it (I literally thought the channel was changed or something), so I can't imagine how pissed off I would be if I didn't read the books.

Lol, that's exactly what I thought!

If they had done it like the quiet folk song, that the Bolton men were singing on the road, that would have been less jarring. Keeping with the theme of the series and calouse nature of Bolton's men, singing a folk song one day, then engaging in a bit of maiming only a few hours later.

As to the episode, a little disappointing. The scene with Pod, made me smile, but really? What was the point of it? It could have been cut with no problem at all and the time used more effectively. The same with the scenes with Tyrion and Shae. I think they're placing far too much emphasis on that at the expense of other characters and aspects given the limited time they have each episode.

You guys know it was supposed to be jarring, right?

The perspective of two people on opposite sides of the fence, the fence being read the books and didn't read the books-

My mom- Shocked like all hell, then the music came on and she was like, "What? What? WHAT!?"

Me- Laughing my ass off

Jaimie would probably give last episode two thumbs down if he could.

Jaime would probably feel the last episode was missing something

I think there's a difference between being jarring and looking a bit stupid. IMO it fell into the latter, why not allow for the style of the song, I don't think there was a need to change the song, rather the tempo and style was just stupid.

I thought the hand-off at the end worked pretty well.

Loved this episode.

I think I've said it before, but I think part of the reason why I'm enjoying this season way more than last is that its been a while since I read the books. So I'm not finding myself nitpicking every little difference and watching it more as just a TV show. I'll leave the nitpicking differences from book to screen to Westeros.org's reviews.

It's been a few years since I read the books, so that's not it for me.  I'm just completely disengaged, as of season 2.  I was thinking yesterday that since I am disengaged, I could start watching it as if it's a medieval drama without thinking about it being a GRRM story, but that doesn't work either.  I simply find the whole thing dull.  I re-watched the episode again to see if I could generate a flicker of something, and it was just annoying.

Vikings is 10x the better show.  Better writing, casting, character development, and some of the best medieval fighting scenes I've ever seen- putting GoT to shame in that department.  It doesn't have the sweep or budget, but even there they get in a lot of scenery porn and some great sets and costumes.  It just feels like the grown-ups are making TV at 7pm while the juveniles are playing Dungeons and Dragons at 6pm.

I don't really get some people's extreme dislike for the credits. Sure, its a more modern rock take on The Bear and Maiden Fair, but in some respects its just as shocking to hear as it was to see Jaime's hand chopped off.

It's a stupid stunt.  I hate it even more after reading D & D's explanation.  They didn't trust the impact of GRRM's story moment so they decided to break the 4th wall in the rudest, clumsiest fashion they could dream up.  Is this how they're going to handle the RW?

...I'm most likely in the minority in saying that I really felt that the end credits song was an excellent move on the producers' part in serving as juxtaposition to Jaime losing his hand to further shock the audience and leave them gasping for their breath. I liked that, personally

And I suppose from now on they'll handle every tragic scene like that? A little cynicism is healthy, but the internet loves to take it too far.

Are you agreeing with me or the opposite?

FWIW the vote in our household is 2/2 in favor of Vikings over GoT.  The spouse has only read book 1 of ASoIaF and hasn't been a huge fan of the show- he watches because I do- but he really likes Vikings and is recommending it to his friends.

I'll watch out the season but after that we're probably cancelling our HBO and moving on.  I accept I got whatever kick I was going to get out of seeing GRRM's work on screen, in season 1.

Poor Jaime, the bargain he was working on seemed to be going so well before things got out of hand.

Jaime faces challenges with a much more hands-on approach than his father. His attitude, wit reputation, and family connections usually give him the upper hand when dealing with common soldiers. Yet it seems Roose Bolton's right-hand man despises sons of nobles and other highborn individuals. The Hand of the King certainly won't like this. You've got to hand it to Jamie for helping out Brienne however.

Who can blame him? He was too proud to accept the Lannister's handouts. On the other hand, he really did demonstrate poor impulse control when he did what he did to Jaime. I can't believe I thought they were in safe hands! That was hands down the most jarring moment of the episode.

Without Jaime in-hand the Starks have lost an important bargaining chip. Yet if Jaime is handed back to Riverrun, Robb cannot stay his hand without enraging his bannermen. He will have to execute him for sure.
