Yes, I think it would be better, that would certainly create the juxta position without the jarring silliness. I know they did it for the shock value, but frankly they could have played the theme to My Little Pony, and achieved the same thing, WTF, doesn't mean they should.

I don't think the scene even needed it. You're cutting off a main character's hand!

I stopped hating Jaimie after he saved Brienne from that particular, very literal interpetation of the Bear and the Madien Fair.
However, with the exception of Tyrion, I love to watch Lannisters suffer.  Particularly if their name is Cersie:devil:

The Extended MLP:FiM theme should've been the troll attempt for the pirated version

Play that right after "All you have to say is 'My Father'" and its freaking gold

Singing about friendship as things get outta hand

Ugh, I am absolutely disgusted with last weeks episode. My god, what they did to Stannis...nothing short of character assassination. Yes, he is broken, I can understand that, but he would never threw a lustful temper tantrum in the books. In fact, someone in my guild equated the scene with something Joffery would say/do, and I sadly agreed.

In my opinion that creators don't understand the character, are trying to paint him as a villain (which is completely untrue). Hopefully HBO's writers can salvage the Dragonstone arc in future episodes or I will end up canceling my subscription (which is due to more than an abysmal portrayal of one of my favorite characters, I simply feel this season has been lackluster and uneventful compared to the last two =/ ).

^ Is every single change to character that differs in any way from what is portrayed in books a bad thing by default?

Flesh is weak and it isn't possible for Stannis to get much more beaten and vunlerable than this. I frankly don't remember much about how Stannis appears through eyes of Melissadnre in Dance but I'd say random desperate outburst of Shadowbabymaking lust appears pretty human. I think it likely enough it was just desperate attempt at lust through grinded teeth that got forced to surface solely out of desire to hump Joff and perhaps few more Lannisters to their deaths.

I would have no problem if it was handled in a more mature manner, which simply wasn't the case.

For example, they could have alluded to his frequent nightmares if they wanted to imply Stannis sought Melisandre's company purely for romantic reasons, but they chose a juvinile"let's make a baby on the beach!" approach.

One of the better episodes so far I think. I loved the credit song, but the pacing of the scene was pretty frantic.

There wasn't anything romantic about that scene. Besides, Stannis' relationship with Mel is ambiguous at best, with a few hints here and there. We never do get a Stannis POV, so our knowledge is somewhat restricted.

So, "I need you" and "give me another son" are not romantic? They do not imply his goal is sex? In the books Stannis broods, but he never outright begs Melisandre to sleep with him. In fact, he brings up the possibility of creating another shadow himself, but is warned against it by Melisandre.

He doesn't lust for her in the scene, he doesn't try to force her to do as he says, he simply asks her and gets a response. It wasn't that big of a deal.

I am (or used to be) a huge fan of the books but I stopped watching the show during the start of second season. But I was just looking at the episode list for this season....and a particular episode name caught my attention. Can it truly be THAT episode? I thought they were splitting the third book into two seasons? Still, I can't wait to see everyone's reaction. If they do it right, it has the potential to be the most shocking thing filmed on TV.

While I can understand what you're saying, I think you're making too much out of it. I don't feel like they're making him a villain, but dependant on Melisandre. Even in the books, he pretty much lets Melisandre and his wife have their run of Dragonstone, doing whatever they want. Davos doesn't even see Stannis for quite a while in the books because of Melisandre.

Also, knowing what Stannis was prepared to do in the 3rd book, I don't think that they're portraying him all that out of character. He never came across as needy in the books, but I could see it as a possibility.

Umm, yes, presumably it's "That" episode. It's being written by George RR Martin himself, just like Blackwater was in the 2nd season. Don't know why you're surprised...it happens just a little over halfway through the book. I don't get the impression that everyones character is going to end up at the same place they were at that point in the books, but they seem to be pacing it so it's more like a season and a half instead of 2 seasons.

This is probably my last comment on the matter, but dependant and lustful are two entirely different traits. Stannis possess a bit of the first due to Melisandre's magic, but at no point in the books did it lead me to believe Stannis yearns for Melisandre in such a public, open manner.

That bothered me too. In the books Melisandre imprisoned Davos, not Stannis. That tiny detail is significantly important in my opinion, since it fosters the animosity between Davos and Melisandre, the two characters who are "fighting" for Stannis's moral compass.

I felt about the same when they had Jaime kill his cousin in order to escape.  Killing him was only half of it, the other half being how Jaime manipulated him to gain his trust.  Jaime's one of my favourite characters from the books, and it just seemed out of character to me.  At least when he pushed Bran out the window he was doing it for Cersei.  Killing his cousin was solely for himself.  I'm glad people got to see him looking out for Brienne.

Stannis is one of my least favourite characters, but I sympathize.  I do believe he lusted after Melisandre in the books as well, but we weren't given many details.

In the books, Jaime was pretty despciable.  It was largly due to his experience with Brienne that his sense of honor was reawakened.  So I think in the show, you're going to see a similar change.

There's a difference between being brilliantly jarring to highlight a point and what we actually got, which actually focused attention away from what just happened.

I'm just ticked I had to watch the ending on youtube thanks to the twenty seconds too early music.

Also would have gone for a cheery and upbeat version of the song for a jarring contrast, rather than a angry rock version.
