EDIT: I feel pretty dumb. Just learned that dire wolves are real extinct creatures. I always thought they existed only in fantasy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dire_Wolf

Yeah I learned that from some stuck-up reviewer who was tut-tutting GRRM for using a North American creature in a European fantasy.  How does she know it's Europe?

She'll really freak out when she sees the mammoths.

Too true. What, then, will she think about the dragons?

Image IPB  Not a moment I'd like to re-live.

Here's a handy layout, for people who aren't familiar with all the onscreen relationships (from here).

This week's episode is entitled "Cripples, Bastards and Broken Things."  I'm looking forward to the Hand's tournament, but I don't think it's in this one.

Very nice chart, although they completely disrepected Maester Aemon by leaving him off of the Targaryen tree.

Haven't read the books. What I'm taking away from the show is that Joffrey is a gigantic douche. Is that about correct?

Yup, thats about right. And any discussion of Joffrey is a good excuse for this:

Odd thing, I just realized the actor that plays Joffrey was the little kid in Batman Begins

Jaime Lannister is so dreamy, like the anti-Aragorn.

There's even a very good reason for why he's such a creep.

Got to see the episode last night. I had imagined King's Landing as less arid and more "South of France". I had imagined more green than what was in the episode. My first comment was, "why are they riding into Qaarth (sp?)", then I choked out, "King's Landing? Huh?"

Why the Storm of Swords spoiler? I won't say more for those who haven't read the whole series.

That said, I really enjoyed the episode. Any scene involving The Wall is pure win!!!

I was a little disappointed about that too, although I always envisioned Highgarden as being like the South of France. Still we got to see Goldcloaks and Barristan. Looking forward to seeing the Knight of Flowers, hopefully in the next episode. Still loving all the accents, people with proper British accents? What is this madness!

So far I love how they've done the show.. they're doing the books justice. Not crazy about a few of the castings (Rob Stark especially) but overall I'm really impressed.

I finally caught up with this.

Woah! The casting alone is superb, Varys, Littlefinger, Jamie, Cersei, Viserys, Danarys, Ayra, and Ned, of course, are just as I imagined them. Peter Drinklage as Tyrion eats every scene he is in with his sarcasm and wit but is a tad too handsome to be Tyrion, though a better Tyrion would be impossible to find... Don't know if that makes any sense.

Also enjoyed how well they adapted the book especially the last scene of ep 2 that ended with Jaime's "The things I do for love..."

And speaking of love, I love the clockwork models at the beginning and the way the intro makes a point of showing you the different locations in which the story unfolds.

This is really a treat.

I don't think I posted this here, but if you like the theme music, here's a great fan-made heavy remix.  I think they should use his version!

I like that they added Vaes Dorthrak to the opener.  The first week it showed only Pentos across the Narrow Sea.

Is it Sunday yet?!

Well, it doesn't take a geneologist to figure out that he's not Robert's kid, but indeed his uncle's. Is that also correct?

Thanks for the link. I had no choice but to favorite it. I would still prefer they kept using the original, but this version has more edge to it.

So they're going to go building it up like a real toy model. Genius!

Tyrion's actor is brilliant but his looks hurt the character to some degree. They could and should have repulsified him a touch. It's a sad world where even imps have to look cute in TV!

I've been intentionally avoiding the series, because I prefer to watch stuff like this after it comes out on blu ray..

But out of curiousity, whats the sword fighting like so far? Is it the typical Hollywood bash em' with a meat cleaver type of sword play? Or did they actually train the actors how to hold and wield a sword properly?

There hasn't been much yet.  However, I understand that they did in fact do training with the actors, even the girl who plays Arya.  In fact, the training scene when she meets Syrio Forel was very well done.

I read most of the books more than once and I didn't get the sense that Tyrion was any more deformed beyond what we see in Peter Dinklage. In the quasi-medieval society of Westeros, someone who is abnormally small, with a misshapen large head and limbs is a deformed imp and were he not a wealthy Lannister he would have experienced a far more horrible life. When Tyrion refers to his ugliness in the eyes of women, this is what he is referring to.

IMO Peter Dinklage is ab****ely perfect casting for this role. Although the accent occasionally seems forced, he brings something unique to this role that more than makes up for the accent.

The Hound, on the other hand, I had pictured as signficantly more deformed and ravaged with scars compared with what we see onscreen.

EDIT: In other news, the word ab so lu te ly is banned by the censor? WTH?
