And finally, of course, the crowning jewel of this season, the bath scene with Jaime and Brienne

She looked remarkable from behind.

Is Loras not Kingsguard in the show? And can we presume Willis Tyrell does not exist?
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.Robb Stark is just frustrating to watch. He speaks of justice yet did he forget the "justice" his father received? Even when the costs are horribly clear he refuses to compromise his sense of honor. He is obviously a skilled commander so he should know he can't afford these sort of losses.

Friday I watched 4 Episodes and Saturday 4. Without stopping! You get thrilled to see what's coming next, because the show always leaves you at a "Cliff-hanger" in the end of each episode. Then you get another and another and another, then you day ends.
Also, I didn't read the book.
Oh, and I really hope they don't cancel the Series like they did with Merlin or Kyle XY... Leaving us in a cliff-hanger in every episode, then: BAM! The Series are over. ( ಠ_ಠ)

Loved Jaime&Briennene LI bath scene. T'was very touching when Brienne by mistake and through habit slipped " Kingslayer!!" in the end there. Them aching hearts! " My name is Jaime" reminded of Reek's " ending"
This was first episode in very long time where Robb Stark didn't feel million miles away. I wish they had made him little more likeable. He gets no POV chapters in first three books and it really shows; TV version, too, is quite distant. He doesn't grow through mouths of others in same fashion he does in books. This aura of mysterious savage kinglyness and frightened/respectful hearsay he constantly gets in books doesn't get through the screen. At this stage, dude is a feared legend across Westeros. Nobody on screen gives a ****. Spoiler look out OMG dont read! - I have a thinfoilhat theory according to which this was intentional and done in effort to avoid too much butthurt come RW.
Robb vs Karlstark was awesome though. Son of his father*Sob*

What about them? Tywin and Cersei have seemed fine so far to me. Tywin especially has been great this year, I've thought. He's been the one playing the game and pulling the strings. Tywin certainly seems more in tune with the book version of Tywin than kind ol' Uncle Tywin telling stories with Arya last year. Cersei has seemed fine too. Her acting all suspicious and distrusting of Margaery seems pretty spot on, IMO.

I agree, the Lannister's seem exact clones of their book counterparts. Occasionally Tywin can get a bit emotional in his outbursts, but that is really the only complaint I have (and it isn't even a large one).
If any characters depiction needs to be questioned, it's Stannis's. I still can't get the scenes out of my head where he begs Melisandre to dry hump him on the beach and when he screwed her right on top if the goddamned painted table. <_<

Where are Willas and Garlan Tyrell? Especially Garlan, the dude's a badass.
As much as I like Garlan, I can understand why he isn't included. His role in the books is largely minor, and doubly so for Willas. The left them out for the same reason they left the Blackfish out in season 1, or the Reed children in season 2 - they don't want to "overwhelm" viewers by introducing a large amount of characters that are, for the most part, non-critical to the plot to make it easier to follow.

Well that sucks, it makes sense though, the cast is already way too big now. It seems best to leave them out for now I guess. Thankfully the cast will be cut down due to certain events this season.

It showed that he is the one in charge, and he will throw his weight around when confronted- I bring this up because my stepfather respected Tywin's assertion of control on Cersei.
Probably reminded him of his good ol days as a Staff Sergeant in the USA(United States Army) keeping his subordinates in line. Its not the same, father-to-daughter compared to what soldiers do, but it felt good to see, regardless.

That he's admitted a few times.
Compare to Rose Leslie, who's a huge fan(wasn't aware of the books until she was casted), has read the books, and tries to capture book-Ygritte as much as she can.

One can assert his authority WITHOUT shouting, which is exactly what he does in the books!
He also smiles in the series. The horror!

That....and him not realizes who Arya is...is like being smashed in the face over and over.
Regardless of whether or not Charles has read the books it doesn't matter. He doesn't write the script.

I've not seen the episode yet, but in the books. I believe he barks orders at both Tyrion and Cersi, slamming his hand into the table, when they're bickering and sniping at one another at the small council table. After he dismisses the other members. So, he does shout and bark at them, but I don't think in that scene, ie the book, he loses his cool, more he's irritated by the petty squabbling of his offspring.
I don't know how it's going to be conveyed in the TV series, until I watch it tonight, but I think barking orders and cowing his adult children into silence with a sentence in that scene, ie: Cersi will marry because I tell her to, and that's the end of it. Isn't divorced from Tywin's character at all, he is controlling oppressive, and despises petty squabbles, between them, they're Lannisters they should act like it.
Like last week's scene with Tywin and Cersi, it's not in the book, but I don't think it's entirely out of place. He simply shuts her down and puts her in her place. The prestige of House Lannister is everything to Tywin, it echoes right the way through season 1, 2 and so far season 3.

Plus, books and television are two different mediums- you can't copy one perfectly onto the other without losing some of the intended effect.

But it certainly is a step in the right direction from last year's Tywin sharing stories w/ Arya. Those were wtf moments for me tbh.
Season 2 there's no other way to learn about Tywin's motivations and past, that doesn't come until after, in the books, so it's looking back retrospectively in the conversations between Tyrion and Kevan at Tywin. I liked those scenesbetween Arya and Tywin, but I'm unsure of how I feel about they convey the portrayal of Tywin Lannister.
I think of them almost as if they were a PoV in the books, Tywin looking back at his early life. We always see the character of Tywin from everyone else, but never his reasoning or internal thoughts. How he's viewed differs between Jamie, Tyrion, Cersi, Kevan, Pycel, the Starks and the others.
Kevan is waaaaay more sympathetic to his brother than Tyrion or other characters, who despise and fear him. But we know, he did love his wife, a particular reason why he loathes Tyrion, and he did smile once. But, he never remarried, one would think that Lord Tywin would take the opportunity to use it to his advantage. He never does. Perhaps that says something about Tywin Lannister that all the other characters miss.

Really? I thought that was a highlight of the season. One of those rare instances where a show's writer's have divulged themselves from the original writings and actually hit on something. It's not like Tywin knew what she looked like, and for all we know he was ignorant of Arya's escape from King's Landing at that point. So why would he even suspect?
Personally, I'm very happy with the portrayal of the Lannisters, with the single exception of Jaime taking out his cousin. In fact, I think they do a great job with almost all the characters. Tormund's character melding with Styr doesn't even bother me that much, as his role is minor and I think he'll become more Tormund-ish later on.
This episode is probably my favourite of the entire series so far. The Jaime and Brienne scene. Arya, both with Gendry and with Thoros and Beric. Cersei having her smile wiped off her face by her father

Retour en haut
