Ratings rose slightly for ep 4.

HBO’s Game of Thrones inched upward in the ratings for the second week in a row.
The 9 p.m. airing was seen by 2.5 million viewers, up slightly from last week’s 2.4 million. This is yet another positive sign for the fantasy series, climbing in the numbers despite the show’s story pace lessening a bit the previous week. The show’s action kicks into high gear starting on Sunday’s fifth episode, which could result in Thrones gaining even more traction in the weeks to come, just like True Blood its first year.

Action in high gear for ep 5?  That sounds like some Clegane on Clegane to me.

Considering how ratings are doing well considering all the other stuff going on (NBA/NHL playoffs, Easter a couple weeks ago, the Bin Laden news), thats even better to see them going up. Especially as I recall from reviewers that the second half of the season is when things really get moving.

So, casting speculations?

I am hearing James Purefoy (Mark Antony from HBO's Rome) for the Viper.  That would make me soooo happy.

Brienne of Tarth will be difficult and I'm guessing they'll probably pick an unknown.  A good suggestion I've heard is Dutch actress Eva Damen.

Another Rome name floating around is Kevin McKidd- for Mance Rayder?  That would also make me happy.

So, any other thoughts?

Melisandre
Ser Davos "the Onion Knight"
Ygritte
Asha Greyjoy
Margaery Tyrell
Arianne Martell

Uhhhhhhhhhhh, James Purefoy was pure win in Rome, so truculent... Yesssssssss, he would be good as the viper...

Catherine Dent of "The Shield" might be good as Asha, or Lawless.  Both tough gals.

Also, Wic-net has a round-up of tweets on various episodes.  This one is my absolute favorite:

There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of creatures Arya Stark has allowed to live.

Only Alia Atreides is a more badass kid than Arya.

Excellent news.

And yes, given where they are in the story, I do expect significant action coming in ep.5, and in ep 6 as well.

Clegane v Clegane seems promising, Arya has an adventure to go on, and there should be - in the next 2 episodes, at least - some doings at the Eyrie, and a confrontation between a certain pair of animals.

I am particularly looking forward to fight in episode eight despite its sad outcome. Arya's following adventures too, as noted. Arya rocks. Still, I hope no one unfamiliar with the novels is expecting crazy action scenes a'plenty or they will be disappointed.

Wow!  I wonder how she would take it if someone told her she looks great for Brienne.

True.  Even the larger battles (think Whispering Wood, for example) are told through people who don't really see what's happening.

Oh, and . . .that link made me lol!!!  Image IPB

I got a tweet from the Game of Thrones people and ended up going to the HBO shop and ordering enough swag to earn myself the free Stark keychain ... I really wanted the Ice "man who passes the sentence should swing the sword" or the "Winter is Coming" T-shirts but they only had them in Men's sizes. :(

I got mine.  :wizard:  They're actually cool looking, which tones down the nerd.

I'm sure they'll get more eventually.  It's a good sign that they're sold out.

I had no idea about this series. I love HBO productions, and took a chance on this. I'm hooked after 4 episodes, and have ordered the first book. It's really well done, with some fine acting. Looks like it's got quite the following here!

Apparently, episode 7 will be up on HBO Go one week before it regularly airs.

HBO GO is pretty nifty.  Will definitely be watching that early.

P.S. Sideburns dude is disturbing, a little.

Interesting. I will definitely *not* watch it a week early. It is very tempting, but part of the fun of viewing "Game of Thrones" is the experience of kicking back on my bed and immersing myself in the program. That is not so easily done sitting at my desk in front of the computer. Also, watching it a week early means I have to wait *two* weeks for episode 8. The only real downside is falling behind on this thread.

Katee Sackhoff would make an excellent Brienne...

I'm re-reading GoT:

Dammit, how do you make spoilers invisible?

While that would be a Brienne I'd love to watch, she would either need to wear prosthetic makeup or they need to cast someone else.

Brienne is supposed to be very homely, with a face that calls to mind a horse.

Unfortunately, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Griffin are too old to play Brienne of Tarth.

What can I say.  I am weak.  Image IPB

P.S. Not sure if this has been posted already, but Wic-net has an episode round-up.  Ep 8 was written by GRRM himself and is called "The Pointy End"!   Ooh.. can't wait for that.  This week's is called "The Wolf and the Lion" and does seem to have some Knight of Flowers, though no mention of Mountain vs. Hound.

And pick up a fake British accent.  Although Eva Damen would have the same problem.

Other casting talk:  People seem to talk about Monica Bellucci for Melisandre.  She'd have to dye her hair red, but she's got the heart-shaped face thing going.

Between Melisandre and Ygritte, there are a couple plums out there for British redheads.

So's Ayra and Jon.  But hey, it's easier to make a pretty actress look homely than the other way around and I can imagine KS fighting a bear in lingerie...:D
