Anyone on the Stark side of the equation should have known something was up as soon as Bolton started smiling, laughing, or in any way displaying human emotion.

Still Troll on Roose you magnificent bastard!

I don't think Westros could handle trolling of that magnitude.

So, I can safely assume that the Tony Stark jokes have already been made, right?

I can't help but crack up now every time I see something like this:

As brutal as the red wedding scene was, it's epic storytelling. I felt almost physically sick after watching it... good sign that I'm pretty emotionally drawn into this tale ;).

I don't think that's really true in real life.  I love Tywin as a character.  Not so much as a person.  Even so, he does what he does for his family.  Sort of like Catelyn and Cersei, just far more effectively....

I agree though.  Anyone who uses a man like the Mountain to serve his ends deserves retribution.

The only thing I can picture from that is some sort of Ramsay Bolton/Ilyn Payne buddy cop movie storyline.

If anyone is going to live to sit upon the Iron Throne I'm going to say that it's going to be Podrick Payne.

I believe that is called "warfare". Tywin releases Gregor Clegane and he pillages his way through the Trident. Robb sends his mean in search of Jaime and they kill anyone who assisted the Lannisters. The Tyrell close the roads South which causes an immense surge of hunger in King's Landing, Daenerys has naught bu good intentions but she leaves naught but destruction and death in her path.
I don't really believe anyone in GRRM's world can claim the moral high ground. Maybe Stannis, I remember him gelding his own soldiers.

The Mountain is a monster. In a setting where most characters are multidimensional. So that´s all you need to know about him, and people who use him. And I didn´t mean the Trident.

I don´t see the Starks doing some of the things the Lannister have done (the Reynes for instance). I did wonder why they had someone like Bolton with them, and well, they shouldn´t have. But after RW, I guess the survivors no longer care about Eddard´s lessons on honor and such.

Book Bolton? Bleh not inspiring.

Putin Bolton...now that's another case. Don't ge tme wrong I am firmly of the believe the characters are written far better in the books, but the way he is visually described in the novels leves something to be desired.

It amazes me that stupidity > intelligence for most people. Especially when talking about politics and war.

Regardless of what you think of Tywin as a person, he is a great leader and the best ruler the 7 kingdoms could have had. The Mountain, despite his cruel excesses, is actually an effective military commander, something that the books show. He won several battles and is the perfect blunt instrument.

Tywin is fully aware of what kind of man the Mountain is and it is evidently clear that he does not respect him in the least. But he does find him useful, which he is. Every great leader must know how to use the stick (coercion) and the carrots (incentives). The Mountain is the perfect stick.

Made more efficient thanks to plausible deniability. Tywin can plausibly deny ordering the Mountain to do anything, on account of the latter's sadism and mania. And indeed, it's not clear at all that Tywin did order the Mountain to perform some of his most brutal and horrific actions.

Fact is, Tywin can efficiently run the Seven Kingdoms from King's Landing if he had the authority to sit atop the Iron Throne.

He doesn't. So he does his best from the sidelines, and even from there he does well. And could be doing even better if the circumstances were different(no War of Five Kings).

I agree with most of what you said, mainly because I see the use of the mountain in this war as a means of practicality and effectiveness than any sign of the lannistar's morality.

That said, I contest you that tywin would have been the best ruler for the seven kingdoms. The man is obssessed with his legacy and image in history, and is willing to take steps or go along with plans that would lead to the deaths of many people just for his own sake, rather than the kingdoms. He is too self-obssessed to make a good ruler, at least that is my view on the situation.

Though I guess it comes down to the meaning of the word "Good ruler" and what that means for most. To me it's the greatest good for the greatest number with as little sacrifice as possible, someone whose first step wouldn't be using horrible means to get the job done, but wouldn't cross it off the table.

So really, It all comes down to subjectivity anyway, so I guess that's that than.
