Whoever plays Arya may be the golden find of this series - she's really doing a fantastic job, certainly better than any other child/young actor on the series.

The horse scene had to be the most tragic part of this series so far. I love horses. :/
Arya was great as always, although I enjoyed the scene with Littlefinger and Varys not so subtly threatening each other most. It also must be reiterated that this show has one of the coolest intros ever. Seeing the Eyrie added to the clockwork was spiffy.

Speak no more of your heresy Foul pagan. The Thrawn Trilogy is more meaningful than your life >>....well maybe. As to the books, honestly didn't even here of them till now, and I'm not into fantasy novels really. 90% of my books are non fiction historical texts, namely around history, space, and military topics, and then Science Fiction/Military Fiction. Very few Fantasy books are on my shelf.Capt. Obvious wrote...

Just started watching it, and I have mixed views on it. But I plan to watch it some more, see if I might like it or not. But one thing I found funny was just how many of the people are just dicks, and like...everyone just stares or ignores it. I mean this isn't High School Gym class. Most of you have swords, yah know you could...I'll suggest something radical here but umm yes, Kill them.
You should read the books. They're tons better than the Star Wars EU. Well, technically, a lot of things are better than the Star Wars EU.

You might like these. They're not so much fantasy as historical fiction. I prefer history to fantasy myself.KenKenpachi wrote...

@Seagloom- I loved the Varys vs. Littlefinger conversation, too. Littlefinger has a lot of presence in this series.

Hmm I'll take a look at them next time I'm in B&N then. I mean anyone around here would have them, would be them...meh used to be lots of book stores around my area. Now short of two used book stores and B&N we just have Walmart. So it would be listed as Historical Fiction, Drama, etc?Addai67 wrote...

It will be in sci-fi/ fantasy. I guess people call it "low fantasy."KenKenpachi wrote...

For those who liked Varys vs. Littlefinger, there's this quote from an Inside TV article: "It’s like the head of the KGB and the head of CIA getting together for a coffee break."

I am enjoying the show and intend to read the books, but I'm wondering if I should wait until the end of this season so I don't spoil myself too much, or just dive in now.
Opinions?
It depends on how you look at it. Either way you will be 'spoiling' the book or the show... just go with whichever you would prefer as a 'first time' experience.

I'm only rooting for three characters at the moment. Ned Stark, his bastard son, and Tyrion Lannister. Though I'm interested to see what happens with the Hound.

Loved the cells! Aesthetically, the audience chamber in the Eyrie is good on screen, but I'm wondering how the door is going to be handled later on since it's now in the floor.
Go Hound!!

I wonder how much Tyrion actually knows about his siblings and what they've been doing.

Ah, another disturbing noble family. The incest the Lannister twins have going on doesn't seem that bad anymore compared to how downright unstable so many other of these nobles are.
Oh it's still pretty bad.

That breast feeding scene was a bit disturbing. I'm actually surprised they filmed that. That kid looked about 10 years old with a woman's nimple in his mouth.
Likely a fake breast or something of that nature, if for no other reason to avoid the controversy.

True. It just seems like Lord Stark and Tyrion Lannister are the only nobles you can sympathize with. Everyone else has a dungeon full of dirty secrets. Maybe not Lady Stark, but she seems rather cold to everybody.

That's part of the appeal for me. Even those that could be viewed as the 'good guys' are not perfect, they are either too cold or too indifferent in their nature. Lady Stark is a great character but she seems to be too dangerously stubborn and naive.

It gets worse across the board. Characters one might think have no skeletons are hiding a corpse pile in their figurative closets. Other characters without skeletons change for the worse following tragic events. It will be interesting to see how Tyrion fans that have not read the books feel about him after his cat is out of the bag. I think the only kinda sorta clean characters are Jon and Arya relative to what they go through; and they both really push it at times.

I loved the panoramic shots at the Eyrie and sky cells. I was afraid it would look cheesy and fake, but it worked. It was a much better episode than the last.
According to Twitter, a lot of people were surprised about Renly and Loras.
The sex scenes are all about backstory. There's a dirty joke in there somewhere.
Favorite part- Arya chasing the cat. Everything with Arya is magic.
Worst part- the Mountain's horse
Worst part? That was the best part in the whole series! Ever since I read the book, I've wanted to see that moment on television. I hope they give Gregor more screen-time.

Sadly, the Thrawn Trilogy was one of the only good Star Wars EU out there. Everything else is crap.

Anyway, the Eyrie is pretty, but looks nothing at all like in the books, but instead like it was pulled straight out of the (equally pretty) cell-shaded Prince of Persia – I’m not sold on it at all. Architectural issues aside the scenes there were simply outstanding, though.
I have to say, though, given they started out the show doing it, it’s immensely jarring that we don’t get location inserts anymore even when somewhere for the first time.
The Loras/Renly scene was very nice due to its sweet, nonchalant tone and of all the exposition scenes it felt the most natural, but the talk of becoming king did feel an ep or two too early to me.
But anyway, I loved every scene, including all the new ones, and it’s probably the best episode so far. Two thumbs and two big toes up.

Yeah I guess they figured subtle doesn't work so well in TV. Also, it's HBO, so... sex is mandatory.Catspaw wrote...
I've read the series 3 times and I missed the innuendo concerning Renly and Loras through 2 reads. I noticed it the 3rd time because I was looking for it. Not subtle in the series. Pretty much slapped us in the face with it there. I never read Renly as weak, though. More kind than others in that world, but not weak as he appears in the show.
I didn't really think of Renly as weak, but the whole description of the Summer Knights- even the name- makes out that they're just playing at court.

It's an interesting choice, I suppose it will make the scene with Brienne slightly more believable than in the book.
My favorite scene was Arya chasing the cats as well!<3

I mean, I was talking with one of my friends who hasn't read the book and he just nonchalantly called how Dany's story ends in GoT. I just wonder if some of the sort of "Oh ****!" moments you have in the books will still be there or whether the show will basically telegraph most of the big twists too early on.
Good episode though- the Mountain/Hound stuff is great, Arya is wonderful and I liked how they had more shots of the Red Keep from a distance and the Eyrie to give a better sense of scale to the world. I do miss the part where they have to get up to the Eyrie as I thought that sounded crazy in the book, especially if you're not a fan of heights.
