*spoiler* was outplayed by Varys who's arguably, and currently the greatest spy master in Westeros.

Is he?

I know he is in the books, but the show is making Littlefinger out to be his better, or atleast a big player in the field.

Baelish has more raw ambition and lust for power driving him, that's what makes him so much more dangerous. While varys is willing to sit and watch things play out, petyr is willing to get involved and meddle with as much as possible to get what he wants, no matter who it cost.

SPOILERS

Nerevar-as wrote...
Tywin Lannister is dead for being an abusive, cruel son of a *****, both in the big and small scale. And treating the worst the person who was more dangerous out of spite. He got exactly what he deserved.

But did the hundreds and thousands of common folk?

Tywin was no doubt a very harsh father who used less than favourable means to teach Tyrion and you may feel his death was an appropriate punishment for this; however he was also one of the greatest rulers in the history of Westeros who had been effectively running the 7 kingdoms for the past 20 years and was no doubt the best chance for the common people to be kept safe and secure. Now that Tyrion has murdered his father Westeros has descended into chaos with an incompetent ruler in charge who cares little for the people and a plague of would-be-rulers all monopolizing on this chaos fighting to further their own power.

All the while the common folk suffer and Tyrion sobs in another country strangling prostitutes.

Tywin's treatment of Tyrion was unfair, it was cruel and it was stupid, but Tyrion's actions against his father are now so much worse. Because of his own self-absorbed foolishness the 7 kingdoms have fallen into chaos and thousands of innocents are suffering unnecessarily. If there's any monster out of these two; it is Tyrion.

We´ll laugh last and best. While your time has already passed.

Because the greatest player in the Lannister house is dead I think it is only inevitable that they'll crumble but you'd have to pretty deluded to think that means the Starks will win in the end.

The message of this series isn't the "good guys win in the end", nor is it "the bad guys always win" rather it is "nobody wins". I'm pretty confident that by the end of this series every major character will be either dead or of little importance.

In regards to Tyrion's "idiocy." I feel that there's a lack of empathy when it comes to the murder. Not that is wasn't foolish, selfish and perhaps the defining moment of Westeros' fall. However, I think at that very moment very few people would think rationally. He just murdered a woman he cared for very much, who slept with his father who not only does he despise, but is now one of the biggest hypocrites in the seven kingdoms (though I still think there's something very fishy going on there.) Of course Tyrion would go through what would eventually result to anomie. It's not incompetence, it's emotion. A trait he still possess.

I wouldn't say murdering Tywin was a good call, but I think it also demonstrated that, like Eddard, Tywin had his own character flaws.

With the Starks, we see it's their honor, which brings down Eddard and Robb both.

Tywin's mistake is in his treatment of Tyrion, blinding himself to his true potential. If I remember in a Storm of Swords, Tywin sidelines Tyrion for pretty much the entire novel, disregarding all his efforts as Hand of the King, and uses him merely to secure a marriage to Sansa Stark. It's the same way that he doesn't pay attention to how Cersei's and Jaime's relationship/personality can ruin the Lannister House as well, which is what led to Joffrey.

Tywin is an effective ruler everywhere but in his own home, basically.

Okay, seriously, it's not cool to openly discuss things like the death of a major character that's still a whole season away in a thread like this. Folks, think of the non-readers and please stop! Please!

Well he's going to be playing Prince Charming on Once Upon a Time so he won't have to worry about anyone playing The Rains of Castamere for a while.
