I also thought the fight between Bronn and Sir Vardis was pretty good . . . could have been a bit better, I think - no, not sure how exactly - but very well done.
And Arya's face when Sansa says "I don't want someone gentle and kind. I want him!!!" Priceless. Whoever that kid actress is - she's good.

That scene with Dany refusing to look away with that apathetic look on her face... Great job.
**End Spoilers**
Good episode this week.

Rome wasn't really cancelled.
The purpose of the show was to show the final transformation of the Republic into the Empire. After a hundred years of bloody civil wars, the Romans were sick of war. They wanted peace and prosperity, and Octavian Augustus Caesar gave them that.
To move on to Augustus' reign would have been stretching it; who wants to see sixty years of peace and prosperity? Aside from the disaster in Teutoburgerwald, nothing bad happens, and Bad Things is what make great shows.
They could pick up at his death, but that could mean a whole new cast, and it has already been done: I, Claudius.
That aside, I would love James Purefoy, Kevin McKidd, and also Ray Stevenson and Polly Walker to appear in GoT. Especially Polly Walker!![]()
It was cancelled, but only sort of. The second season arc was rushed so the show could conclude after its second season; they were going grossly overbudget and couldn't afford to keep doing it. If these budget issues hadn't happened, the events of season 2 probably would have unfolded more slowly over a couple seasons; the need to rush the timeline was why we saw a recast of Octavian.

Heh, yeah- I don't remember that from the book, but what better line to show what a noble idiot Sansa is. I hate to say it, but the pup is like the father.TJPags wrote...

Awesome, and ep 7 even more so!! HBO GO's servers melted right after ep 6 concluded. lol
Oh, and I salute Harry Lloyd. Never enjoyed Viserys nearly as much in the books.

Pro- a Ghost moment. Con- probably the grossest sex scene I've ever seen on TV. I think they went a little far with this one.

Yeah, I thought the HBO version of Viserys was a much better and more sympathetic character than the book version for what its worth. In the book he just seemed crazy and while he's still a nut in the show, you might feel just a little bad for him at times, since he's so clueless and Harry Lloyd did such a good job.

Yeah, I caved and just watched it. Excellent and everything is really hitting the fan now. The throne room scene was excellent...well, as excellent as that can be I guess.
But yeah, I agree on the sex scene....I don't know, its like they can't just have any scenes with straight up exposition and obviously can't have the internal monologues like the books, so any scene with any backstory just turns into sexposition with some T&A to liven up the backstory. A lot of the sex/nudity in the show just feels kind of like they put it in there for the hell of it, like they have a nudity quota they need to meet for each episode:P
Oh, and hell yes for Tywin showing up! Although I am mildly disappointed he doesn't have the shaved head/sideburns as decribed in the book.

Yes to all. Will is killed by Ser Royce, who's become a wraith (if you are killed by an Other, you can come back to life as a wraith). The one who escapes and is executed is the other guy. I don't recall if he talks about seeing the Others... maybe someone can fill in who has the book handy.Shirosaki17 wrote...
Have a question about the first book's Prologue. I wasn't sure about something in it. After Ser Royce dies and Will climbs down the tree, does Ser Royce rise up as an Other and choke Will? And Gared is the one that gets away and is executed? Is it ever told what he saw then?

I can't believe I'm actually squeeing for Tywin Lannister... the show is messing with my head.
P.S. LOL @ "sexposition." That's exactly what they do. Can't anybody just talk? Without the body cavity search going on in the background, preferably?

I only saw episode six. I admit, I was insanely tempted at first. I went back on my earlier intentions and tried to watch, but HBOGo's servers were dead. When I woke up this morning my urge to see it had faded. Now I am content to wait until Sunday.
I had no sympathy for Viserys in the crowning scene. He came across as a broken, ineffectual loser. Harry Lloyd's performance *was* wonderful, but I still felt Viserys was an irredeemably selfish jackass. That made it hard to feel any empathy for him here. I was disappointed the gold pouring bit was not prolonged so we could really feel his agony. There are few things I enjoy more than seeing characters like Viserys get their comeuppance.
That said, the actress that plays Dany did a good job too. Her total apathy reminded me why I am not a fan of the character.
As usual, Tyrion's scenes were all great. The Trial of Combat was also great; not so much for the duel itself as the dialogue. I am liking GoT Tyrion way more than his novel counterpart so far.
Arya also continues to be awesome, but she *is* Arya. As much as I liked the scene with her, Sansa, and Ned, I enjoyed her talk with Syrio more. I think episode 7 and 8 may make me cry; knowing what will come.

I think Harry Lloyd brought out the insecurity of being a "beggar king" very eloquently, as well as his jealousy that Daenerys was supposed to be his, and was the only person he had in life, though he only knew how to show love by controlling and demeaning her. He was a guy who literally had no place in the world. I'm guessing he did come back to die, though probably didn't guess the gruesome means.
It shows her finding the coldness she'll need to be a strong ruler. I didn't like Dany's parts of the novel until she started being badass. That said, the actress that plays Dany did a good job too. Her total apathy reminded me why I am not a fan of the character.

I was looking forward to his crowning since his first scene this season. Also, I found that death particularly amusing because of the irony in Khal Drogo's interpretation of Viserys's request. What can I say, I appreciate trickiness--especially when it is used to punish someone vile.

Oddly, I'm not liking Dany as much in the series as in the books. Then, I loved her in the books, so she's still up there. She just seems - harder - in the series. Again, makes me wonder which was intended.
I resisted the urge to look at ep.7. But you all have me wondering what sex scene we get . . . .

As others have said, yes to how you have the prologue playing out. I actually thought - and still do - that the written version is suprior in terms of drama, and would have played out on screen extremely well. There was no need to change it at all, IMO.
And again, as others said, Ned alludes to what he said when speaking with Robert in the Crypts, but we don't hear it directly.

Does it explain later on about the wraiths and what they are then? Also, does that mean on the tv show that those bodies that were found later turned to wraiths? For instance that little girl that was on the tree and that scared Will, was she a wraith or a white one?Addai67 wrote...

@TJPags
I agree the scene in the book is much better. It also kind of explains why Gared gets away. Perhaps he wasn't seen by them. In the TV show it never explains why the White Ones let Will go. From the little I know so far, it seems that it's important that their presence is unknown since they've not been seen in 8 thousand years.

Responding to your questions in order - do we get an explanation? - I'd say we don't actually get a specific "explanation", but we do get enough hints to make that conclusion. Let's just say there are other instances to come.
Is the little girl and the other bodies wraiths? - yes. The ones that killed Raymar in the book - those were Others.
To your comment about their pesence being unknown - it's not that, exactly - more like, forgotten and not believed in anymore.

Littlefinger tells the story of his confrontation with Ned over Catelyn, all the while he's coaching two of his working girls in the "finger" arts- in numerous orifices. It just goes on and on and on, meanwhile Littlefinger is prattling away. lol I guess it's funny as I think about it, but at the time I'm just like ew... seven hells!!!
