Sounds hardly like a hard achievement to fullfil, considering the last three seasons haven't exactly been anything major. As long as the season 4 finale manages to tie together all the lose ends, setting the way for new ones, and considering everything that will (most likely) take place in this episode, I can perfectly see that it may be their best finale.

For me it will depend upon wether the episode include a chamber pot or not.

Got to say the show had me feeling somewhat saddened by what happened to Tywin as opposed to the books.
As for the episode itself, it felt rather rushed to me. Too much to cram into one hour.

So did they change the scene with Tywin like they did with the Red wedding?

Haven't seen it yet but if you mean their dialogue they have in the books is changed.

Big change. Instead of Tysha being the subject of their conversation, it's Shae and the fact that Tyrion is Tywin's son. So no, "Wherever whores go"
Hmm interesting, might have to see it. Everyone knows I'm a big Tywin fan so I really hope they did this scene great. It's a very sad scene but a scene I still remember well.

I was wondering this myself about half-way thru the episode. I have also wondered why with the big hit it has become that they couldn't do two hour season finales.
To Divo: I don't believe they undersold Oberyn's ability. Thru the whole series he is made out to be this great fighter. We see him fight twice I think and the first time is in season one with his brother who is made out to be another of the great fighters. Then we have Bronn who again we are lead to be seen as another great warrior but he speaks true about the Mountain (and what gets said about him by other characters) between that first fight and the dual. Almost 30 episodes and Oberyn and he is untouched.
I thought it was well done that this one fighter (the Mountain) the show conditions you to be this amazing warriors is totally outclassed by this drinker, whoremonger, light armor using a spear to great effect that hasn't been shown ever. That's just me.
If I was to nitpick it would be with the cavalry charge. At least ten wide, five deep, three blocks wide, and seven or more long. I am selling it short but that comes to over four thousand mounted and trained riders and horses... Last we know Stannis had aroud 6-8k total, had been beaten back and owns a desolate island that grows nothing. That is if I were to nitpick I really don't have a problem with it at all.
I did really like the skeletons and that they could fight.
I am happy with the ending. They close some things but open others in a good way imho. Kinda sad there was no Lady Stoneheart and I wonder if she will show up next season.

As a book reader but also someone who loves the show, this was a fantastic finale. They nailed Arya's plotline and even made it better with the Brienne hookup, but then again Maise Williams and B&W have done Arya better than the books since the show began. Also, fistpump that she got the closing scene.
I was a little disappointed at what was cut from the Tyrion-Tywin-Jaime end conversations, but it does make sense from a show point of view not to bring that up (it's been months since Tysha was last mentioned, as opposed to someone reading the book). And I think it works well without it, anyway.
I thought it was interesting that E9 concluded without Stannis, but suddenly it makes a lot of sense. The choreography with Stannis descending on both Mance and Jon is symbolic of a foreign entity injecting itself into a previously established struggle. This is highlighted by Jon and Tormund's conversation: Jon acknowledges that Stannis is the one making the decisions on the Wall now, but also says he's not his king and won't kneel to him. Both Mance and the Night's Watch are now at the mercy of Stannis, a confusing situation to say the least.
Will be interesting to see whether Storm's epilogue ever makes it into the show. If it doesn't, I can't say much was lost besides a shocking reveal.

That was before the Iron Bank backed him.

Game of Thrones, I don't think, gets enough mention for it's musical compositions. It's no Sam Hulick and Sascha Dikiciyan/Cris Velasco, but, man, is it some gripping stuff IMO.

Did Brienne really bite off the Hound's ear? Is she related to Mike Tyson or something?
