If it turns out to be true, it would definitely give Robert's Rebellion a whole "Trojan War" kind of vibe to things.
Do you think
Even in the books, that plotline came seemingly out of nowhere very late in the game and while the book readers might get some surprise at the revelation he is a
I don't mean to sound condescending but does the average viewer recall who was Rhaegar or why Robert rebelled? Altough, I suppose they might remember "You raped her, you murdered her, you killed her children."
But still, I expect the majority of them would rather watch Tyrion interact with Daenerys than
Removing that plot line could be beneficial to the show. As it stands, I love Doran Martell's writing/character, but his actual overarching scheme just seems pathetic compared to what we've seen other characters engineer and partially it's due to the inclusion of the above character.
if they drop Grif I'll be angry
connecting the story of current Westeros to the past conflicts is pretty important, Blackfyres and all
Sooooo much Dance with Dragons in that trailer.
Yeah I'm getting worried with how much they're going to do in the next couple of seasons. As the show cannot be put on hold for the books to end (due to losing popularity, ageing child actors, etc) there is the very strong possibility that the show could end before the books. ATM I think they need to have all the plots and subplots,
I was rewatching HBO's Rome, which in many way is to Game of Thrones what the Roman Empire was to Wetern Europe untill the 17th century, and I got mad all over again that the Unsullied were not based on the roman legions, especially because they look so good in that show. For me they were just like the Triarii (pretty much the way Maximus fights his first fight in the Colosseum against the chariots in Gladiator). But 'no', said GoT producers, 'let's make them boring and common place!' Grrrr!

Well to be fair the unsullied live in a completely different environment. There were reasons why ancient armies in desert-like environments didn't fight in Laminar plate armour like the legionaries: 1, iron was generally hard to come by; 2, soldiers would overheat extremely quickly fighting in steel plate in desert heat.
Makes sense for the unsullied to wear leather instead.

True, it's actually just the shield and the sword I would change. The sword for the gladius (which is the sword the Titan of Braavos is/was holding btw) and the shield for a roman one. The armor is less relevant.
They've said they know how GRRM wants it to end.
To be honest, I'm good with the show and the books diverging. If the show ends before the book series does, then that's on GRRM, isn't it?
This.
They plan to end GoT with season 7. The likelihood of GRRM finishing ASoIaF before the end of GoT's run when his publisher has already stated The Winds of Winter is not coming in 2015 is infinitesimal. We got that Night King fiasco last year, and I suspect we will get advance on Sansa's arc this year. At this point the only reason to finish the novels will be learning what happens to all the ancillary characters GoT cuts.
I expect they will remove any subplots that are not directly relevant to the overarching story. In a way, GoT is showing us how many old fan theories and seemingly game changing revelations are in reality inconsequential. I doubt we will see Griff. They have been mishandling the Ironborn for ages, and as far as I am aware have yet to cast anyone for Victarion or Euron.
GoT is destined to become the cliff notes version of ASoIaF, I think. After missing seasons two and three, I learned to get over it. I am glad I did, as GoT occasionally does things better than the novels despite other bits being butchered. No point in wishing the program to become something it will never be.
It's safe to say that I didn't much care for how the show decided to let the whole thing with Tyrion and Tywin play out and then have Brienne fight the Hound, while having Arya conveniently slip away from her in order to be at least partially consistent to the source material.. I don't think I'm in a hurry to watch the show again after that
I disliked how Tyrion's escape played out too. Especially after his awesome trial. That scene in GoT dropkicked the book version into another dimension.
But I liked Brienne vs The Hound for its sheer savagery despite how nonsensical it was that Podrick apparently took a smoke break while Arya slipped away. They are moving a lot of chess pieces around to make up for a smaller cast of characters. Given those limitations deviations will be inevitable, and some of those deviations will not sit well with everyone.
The Viper and The Mountain was really where I started to lose faith.

In case you have forgotten, Cersei's daughter, Myrcella, was sent to Dorne to marry the heir. Oberyn is a prince of Dorne, uncle of said heir.
Joffrey is dead and by the laws of Westeros, Tommen is the heir because, despite Myrcella being older, she is female. However, the laws of Dorne are different, they dictate that the eldest inherits, regardless of gender.
Therefore, you add a confession from Gregor that Tywin ordered him to kill Ellia, a princess of Dorne, plus Tyron who would have to accompany Oberyn to Dorne or be shived in some backalley in King's Landing. Then, all you have to do is crown Myrcella because, according to the laws of Dorne, she is the heir to the throne.
So, you have an heir and a confession that the queen regent's father ordered the murder of a princess of Dorne, that leads to a lot of angry dornish clamouring for justice and willing to wield spears to place Myrcella on the iron throne and let's not forget she would be married to the prince of Dorne.
Now, Oberyn is dead but all that means is that a prince of Dorne was killed on his travel to King's Landing which will still result in a lot of angry dornish demanding justice and war. While Myrcella is still in the hands of Dorne.
Oberyn was introduced to bring Dorne into the politicking of the realm and he was killed so that tension would grow between the Iron Throne and Dorne.
*sigh* the Ironborn in GoT.....

The problem is that it will spoils the book which are superior to begin with.
I mean, we already know who is behind the Others, thank you for that HBO.

The argument is used but trust me, Dorne musters up trouble. To say more would be a spoiler.
Suffice it to say, when your prince is murdered, hotheads don't much care whether it was done within the law or not.

I don't mean to start any flame wars, but am I the only one who doesn't like this series.I read all the books, which were good enough, but I don't understnad all the praise around the franchise.
I personally have stopped watching game of thrones, after the last season. They killed Pypar, while he isn't dead, but he isn't the first character alive dead, but the worst is that they pretended that Sansa played alone the game of thrones without the help of Petyr, (didn't like how he looked miserable, his ass saved, while in the book, he is actually the master of lies ) and especially revealing who she was, Sansa Stark instead of Elayne! Oo !
That was breaking immersion because that was stupid as hell, there's absolutely no good reasons to reveal her name ! I just can't there.

You know what pissed me off the most of that duel? The fact that Gregor apperantly isn't that much in pain in the end. I bet HBO is gonna retcon it and keep him alive for another season because reasons.
