I'm honestly not all that big on the Melisandre hate. Sure, she has an agenda, but I think that ultimately, she's out for good, not evil. I don't trust her entirely, but I don't write her off as some harpy witch charlatan.

d the scene with her boy toy so she got a different perspective.
"He's an Obsidian forumite regular who never uses them -- Forgot why though."
Uh.
"Volly is probably one of the few RPG forum veterans still around. BioBoards, Obsidian, No Mutants Allowed, RPG Codex, you name it and he has an account from the late 90s or early 00s. He's also one of the few people I've seen who is disliked on all the forums he frequents due to his abrasive posting style.
r00fles!"
You must be a sneaky veteran.
Anyways, I'm old. I'm been on these RPGish forums for over a decade.
Newb.
The real question is how much (and if) Dany will grow. If she learns to listen to Varys, then she might well pull off being Queen o' the World. Otherwise it could all turn into a pointless bloody mess.
Is anyone shipping Tyrion + Dany yet?

Everyone in GoT has their own agenda. She thinks she is acting for the good. How that will turn out remains to be seen.

Well she's definitely not a charlatan seeing as she does have some strange magic, but that's pretty much all of the clergy of Rhollor. Since most of the beings with that kind of power seem to be up to no good, it isn't a stretch to assume the same about Melisandre.
Although, she's certainly creepy.

She's also really, really, obscenely hot. Defies gravity and doesn't afraid of anything.

ADWD turned me around a bit with Mel. She's one of those GRRM specials as in she's evil, but evil will be absolutely necessary to win in the end whereas the good people keep screwing everyone over.I'm honestly not all that big on the Melisandre hate. Especially with her comment "I'm not a politician, I'm a queen". To be a good queen she has to be a politician, but if she wants to be a petty tyrant she should keep doing what she's doing.
I also seem to recall something along the lines of saying she doesn't care if her subjects dislike her. Which is exactly what Joffery's response was up until he ended up choking on his own blood.
Pretty much.
Dany is a determined leader but an inadequate ruler, which in natural since she has no knowledge whatsoever when it comes to governance. However, the issue lies in the contradiction of her fully well knowing she isn't capable, yet is too stubborn to admit it when it actually matters. She also has the problem of being surrounded by sychopants, which she fully admits to be influenced b/c she has no knowledge on the customs in the East, making her an easy target. The problem she also often displays that she is way too insecure and weak, in addition to being quite emotional.
However, while I do find her to be quite worthless as a ruler, I don't hate her and I see the incidents that she experiences in Meereen as a learning curve for her (which thankfully is a reason as to why she stayed in the city). Instead of dismissing her entirely as a contender for the Throne, I can respect her as a character if the events that she has experienced actually has a toll on her and she manages to learn from her mistakes and improve.
Similarly with Jon Snow. While possessing a more 'sharper' mind for governing, he makes the mistake of excluding himself, taking the whole "execute the boy and become the man" concept way too far. A good leader is someone who surrounds himself with capable individuals (or even more so than the leader himself, which is only better) and perfoms in a manner to which his / her advisors are at a close ear. Someone who surrounds himself with people just to ensure loyalty, is a fool.

Same. Even GRRM himself stated that she gets unnecessarily too much hate. Well it is understandable, considering she is quite an anomaly in the grand cast of characters (which is saying something). I don't doubt that what she seeks is the "general good", but her methods can be quite questionable, to say the least.

They might have Nymeria Sand take on the role of Arianne. I haven't read the spoilers, so apologies to those who have if that isn't the case. She showed up in one of the trailers, so its possible that Nymeria could take on a larger role than she had in the books. Maybe the character of Arianne was folded in with her.

Just sad that we aren't getting Val, Penny, or Arianne.
I think the roles will be absorbed with other people. If I had to guess, Arianne's role will be taken by either Ellaria Sand, or one of the Sand Snakes.
Penny is probably going to be dropped. Val I think still has the highest chance of appearing, though I think she might be excised or combined with someone else.

While they are. Shadows are still considered darkness.Light and shadow are closely related.
The exact opposite of what Mellisandra claims The Lord of Light is. It should've been glowing or something.
I give her credit for recognizing the true threat to Westero and sending everyone up north though.

I give her credit for recognizing the true threat to Westeros and sending everyone up north though.
I don't know what her end game is, but she absolutely has been useful. Matter of fact if Davos hadn't successfully convinced Stannis to leave Melisandre behind for the attack on King's Landing, it is likely they would have had a chance at actually taking it. Though they'd still need to contend with Tywin's forces.
And as you said, she made note of this attack in the North being important enough to divert attention to, as well as keeping Davos alive for his usefulness.
I think some might call her a "necessary evil" but others would question if she should actually be considered evil.
