Lots of people may be guessing Robert had no legitimate sons, but how many people (other than Cersei and Jaime) know for certain?
Stannis, Tyrion, Jaime, Cersei, Robb before he became a furry, Varys probably, LF, Lysa before she became a stain on the Vale, Balon Greyjoy probably believes it

I'd say that most people are aware, but just don't say much due to either fear of reprisal, or vested interest in the current line of succession (such as the Tyrell's; there's no way that Lady Olenna at least doesn't know or believe the rumors but is aware that the power they have currently trumps who is legit or not).
I'd be surprised if the Martells didn't know.

"Really though, Renly should've just backed his brother. Their combined forces would've been fantastic to see. Well, with the two of them, not just jumping in with Stannis. hahaha"
I kinda agree with this mainly because Renly's reasoning for opposing Stannis seemed silly and childish. "Oh, I'm more charismatic than you!" O RLY? That's why you are going to war against your brother? COME ON. Talk about shallow writing/reasoning.

What would possibly make you think the Margery and the Tyrells weren't whispering in Renly's ear about conquering the Iron Throne? Stannis may have been the first born, but Renly had the armies. When regicide happens and the naturally assumed succession is thrown into question, the blood that matters most is how much of your enemy's you can put on the spears of your armies.

The fact they were whispering in his ear (they were) doesn't make his reasoning any less childish. I get why they would do it - they wanted the throne for their family,

Well, the entire Song of Ice and Fire series is nothing but people doing incredibly selfish things that wind up making the lives of the entire world progressively worse. Renly is not any bigger of an offender of that than Ned Stark.

Ned wasn't doing selfish things. Ned's problem he was too obvious in his nobleness and upfront of it. He needed to be more sneaky. Ned wasn't doing what he was doing for himself which is the definition of selfishness. He was going to do what 'was right' no matter the potential consequences. He made mistakes but they weren't selfish ones. Renly opposing his brother was selfish and egotisical.

He was selfish in putting his honor and sense of morality above being a good ruler. It's more noble than killing someone to bang your sister, but it's just as self-centered.

You could just as easily say that Renly was doing what he thought was good for the realm. Stannis wouldn't exactly be the most lenient ruler and Renly thought he would make a better king.
Honestly, in my opinion, he would have made a better king than Stannis.

I think Ned genuinely believed being a good ruler meant always doing the honorable thing, hence why his head ended up on a spike. Not self-centered but naive to the reality of politics in the realm.

The shame about Ned was that Tywin wasn't on hand. Ned would have just went to the Wall if not for Joffrey, who couldn't see that catering to his own bloodlust would provoke a civil war that might end his own reign and destroy the Lannisters' grip on power.

Good episode, but TOO SHORT. GoT episodes should be two hours long.
Well, it was a build-up episode.
Tonight's episode of Once Upon A Time was also an hour(as usual) but felt twice as long.

I'll add one final cherry to this sundae which is to say he did what he believed was being a good ruler, and which was also him being selfish, and which was also him being naive to the reality of politics of the realm.
He was Ned Stark, no more, no less.

SPOILER ALERT: next episode there will be a character death and a sex scene.
Seriously though, anyone hear about the leaked ending for the books/show? According to a true fan who figured it all out, Jon snow and Daenerys will win this epic game of musical chairs. Whats you guys' take on that?

So... John Snow pulled a Stannis. Damn it. All we need is a Stannis Jr. Still, I got spoiled on E4 and there's a scene there that makes me actually like Stannis. HBO giveth HBO taketh.
And, Littlefinger is a brillant liar. I almost believed him when he said it was Sansa's choice. L0L I wonder how long it atakes before Ramsay and co start torturing/murdering Sansa. ![]()
Cersei proves yet again that no matter how much she smirks 'knowingly' she isn't as smart as she thinks she is.

it was sort of surreal seeing little cersei in the flashback. Who wouldve guessed that little girl would grow up to bang her brother?
