Hm, yes, there was another short story in that book which was a sci fi setting and involved a tournament or more like a cage match where various species were pitted against each other. They're exciting, so it works for me.
Sandkings? It won a Hugo in 1980. It's a classic.

The one I was thinking of is called A Beast For Norn, one of the Haviland Tuf stories. This was in the collection Dreamsongs.FedericoV wrote...

Anyone else think so?
I couldn't find him credited anywhere listed as voice cast but I swear it has to be him.
EDIT: I just checked and he's not in the credits
Hmm....I guess somebody really sounds like him

How's that relevant to the thread?

The Greatjon was a little disappointing, and totally outshone by the awesome that is Ser Barristan Selmy.

But wow - a whole lot of bits from a whole bunch of chapters seemed to be jammed into that. Written by GRRM, I notice, and I noticed also that the dialogue was often VERY close to the written word. However, there seemed to be some story changes . . . most notably, Sansa . . .or was that in the part of the episode I missed?

Did your HBO cut out during the scene with Dany and Drogo and their disagreement with one of his men regarding the slaves? Because mine did.

Mine cut out either right after or shortly after that - it seemed like a cable issue, since my box rebooted . . . .was it an HBO issue?

Bah- I won't be able to watch it until tomorrow....There is only one scene this season where the Greatjon needs to be a total badass, so hopefully they don't botch that one particular scene, naming a certain someone a certain title:whistle:

Just saw the whole episode now. I have to say, I'm a bit underwhelmed by the GreatJon myself . . . also noticing a distinct lack of others, such as Roose Bolton . . . .
Syrio Forel remains an absolute gem in this series, as does Arya.

I do not think that we will see that scene untill next year considering that the Riverrun part of AGot's story is postponed to Season 2 and many actors have not even been casted (like Edmure or the Blackfish for example).

Seems like Brian Blessed should be in there somewhere. lol The actor for the Greatjon did a pretty good job I guess, especially in the scene with Catelyn, talking about Tywin's bunghole. Hee. Oh, and I was complaining about direwolves so props for Ghost and Grey Wind!WeRtheBrox wrote...

No sex scenes- everyone got down to business.
Poor Sansa. This is when you start to see that she's in way over her practically empty little head.
Osha and Hodor- awesome. lol I love how they've done the heart trees, and how they tie the mythology in to the political events. "How can they see if they have no eyes."

Anyway, I just watched the episode and it was very good. Poopoo is definitely going to hit the fan in the last 2 episodes. Only a couple moments were kind of odd and some other thoughts:
- When Arya killed the stableboy, the editing seemed strange or the stableboy actor totally sucked, making the scene feel out of place and just sort of tossed in.
- The scene with Jon killing the Wight seemed more mundane than in the book where the Wight's arm comes alive after its been chopped off. And I'm hesitant on how they seem to be doing the Wights visually- I always pictured them to be a bit more nasty looking. I just think the more supernatural stuff like the Others/White Walkers and stuff in next season might end up looking too run of the mill, taking out some of the spectacle the book provides.
- A Rickon sighting!
- No sight of Mormont's raven:unsure:
-Syrio is such a badass
-Ser Barristan is a badass
- HODOR! Put some clothes on Hodor!
- I did like how there was a Sansa/Hound scene finally, as small as it was.
-Was that Ser Kevan Lannister with Tywin in his tent?
-I think that Drogo fight scene didn't happen in the book? Wasn't he just wounded from the battle already when Dany came back with the slaves? Just seemed like his one wound wasn't looking nearly that bad enough to act like it was all life threatening in the show, when in the books I think they made it out like he had much more major wounds all over from the battle.
And episode 9 preview, Baelor, here
With only 2 episodes left, I am wondering how they're going to end things for this season- like are they going to introduce the Frey's in person? Are we going to see Riverrun? I know they haven't cast the Tully's yet, right? But the ending in GoT for Robb is just perfect as it is in the book. I guess it doesn't have to be in Riverrun.

I liked Sansa&Joff and Tyrion&Tyvin quite a lot though. Also, way Drogo got wounded was manly enough!

They've cast Walder Frey for season one, so I'm guessing we'll see him. That should be fun.
The disembodied hand not being in the scene was a bit of a disappointment, but the guy opening his eyes was still creepy.
I thought Arya's scene with the stable boy was quite moving. Her first time killing, and all the more poignant for the fact that it was another child and consisted of no more swordplay than "stick them with the pointy end." Oh Arya. I want to scoop up these kids and have them face no more conflict than who gets the most home-baked cookies.
I can't believe there are only two episodes left!!! I'm on pre-emptive withdrawal already.
P.S. Hodor- the actor's tweets are hilarious. You can tell he's embarrassed. He said something about "I'm hoping the censors cut certain parts" and "I never thought I'd do a scene like that" and "it's Winterfell, there are no tanning beds." lol

@Brock - Sansa did get that scene with Sandor early on when they were still in Winterfell. Or do you mean a shared scene since then?
Syrio and Barristan were indeed awesome. Loved both scenes. Although Syrio's is my favorite of the episode.
As Addai wrote, it was indeed Ser Kevan, yup. Tyrion addresses him as uncle when he walks into the tent.

After seeing the whole episode again, I gotta say it was satisfying. I quite enjoyed it. I took the scenes with Robb's army as intentionally hurried. In fact, most of this episode felt like that tense moment on a roller coaster when you are climbing to the peak and seconds away from hitting a steep downhill slope. There was a definite sense of bad things a'brewin' in every corner of Westeros.
Also gotta agree with Addai on Arya. Arya's unintentional murder illustrated to her how swiftly death can come, and the ease with which she could cause it. Her brief expression caught between puzzlement and shock was excellent.
This episode had Ghost and Grey Wind--always cool. Also both wolves got to do something significant.
If I had to single out weak scenes, they to be Varys's visit to Ned in the dungeons and Dany's scene. I got a sense GRRM was trying to cement Ned's role in these events to spare viewers possible confusion brought on by the TV format. It brought my mind back to that incorrectly organized scene two episodes ago with Lancel giving Robert wine before Ned and Cersei's courtyard conversation.
As for Dany and Drogo... I agree with Brock that it's hard to believe *that* is *the* wound. Still, despite these issues I enjoyed yesterday's episode greatly.

It was a very dense episode, yep. But I thought it did a good job of building the tension. The multiple deaths of Stark retainers, culminating in Septa Mordane's facing down a bevy of bloody swords, was heartbreaking and- with Sansa and Arya's lives in the balance- intense. After seeing the whole episode again, I gotta say it was satisfying. I'm undecided on the Daenerys stuff. It felt a little anti-climactic. I think it's meant to underscore the irony of what's coming. Drogo being an absolute beast, laughing at death, then...
Mo Ryan of AOL TV gives good recaps/ reviews. She says the theme of this episode was mercy. Sometimes when a character shows mercy, it comes back to bite them in the ass, but in the moment you never really know. This was her favorite episode thus far.

He was a little too yappy/ whiny- there should have been more snarling and growling- but I'll take whatever wolfie shots we can get. I really wonder what they'll do next season. The Northern Inuit dogs are not going to cut it for full-grown direwolves.AntiChri5 wrote...
